Gals, I think someone else in this thread mentions a book called 'Deluxe: how luxury lost it's luster' - I am reading it now and it is VERY interesting. It tells you exactly what is going on with our fave designers over the last 10 yrs or so (Prada included) and how/where their stuff is made (child labor, production lines, retagging items made elsewhere to say Made in Italy, etc.) it is pretty disgusting what this industry gets up to and will probably put you off designer stuff for good! These days I either buy vintage or just enjoy the old, well made stuff I already have.

Super glad I found this thread. Although previous poster's are correct your bag can say "made in italy" and only have a fraction of it actually be made there. This is depressing because I adore prada and was wanting to get a bag for my birthday :(

I know many of you don't care if it is made in china or Italy as long as the quality is the same. For a while, that what I thought as well until I went to the Woodbury outlet again. I compared two saffiano wallets both in same style but different color. One was made in Italy, the other one was made in china. The one that was made in china feels different, and the leather is softer a d thiner compare to the one that is made in china, so it feet very cheap on my hand. The one that is made in Italy is more structural, and it has a heat stamp on the leather saying made in Italy instead of having a tag inside the bag say made in China. I suppose they are trying to hide it. Also I found wallets that are made in India inside the Prada outlet store as well.

Well it's finally happened - what I always knew would happen and what always happens to designer items made in China.

An unauthorised handbag has made its way onto the market. And where there's one, there's plenty more.

That's a bag made using all the authentic materials and trademarks owned by Prada, probably made inside the Prada manufacturing site, but which is not made under Prada's instructions and authority. Designers authorise or licence a manufacturing site to make a certain amount of a certain style and no more, and they provide the necessary materials for those items. Anything made over and above that licence or authorisation is technically a counterfeit. Even though it is made with all the correct materials and trademarks, it has been made illegally.

I'm only surprised that it took this long for me to see one.

They're currently being sold from that authorised Prada outlet called "Facebook". There's another good reason to avoid facebook completely.

Well said! I had seen this many times in China. I often just go in the store to check out how the replica look like for my curiosity, and so many times I really feel some of the bags are from the factory where they manufacture these bags. The sale man would tell me they were made using the same material. I am surprised that I didn't buy one.

That being said I think some people will buy the one that's is exactly the same. If two bags are the same, why would someone pay $2000 USD to purchase the same bag if she can pay $200 USD? For me I had decided that I no longer have desire for Prada goods, or i might just buy one in china that cost much less if I go back to China next time. It might sound very degrading of me, but that's how Prada made me feel after they decided to make their goods in china. They had degraded themselves, and to me they had lost its luster and no longer consider as luxury items for me.

What angers me with sellers such as Neiman Marcus et al, they will state, 'imported' for country of origin and if the Prada happens to be made in Italy, the will then state Italy but never ever state China or Vietnam just cleverly state 'imported'.

As well, Prada has so imperviously hiddened the label for where they are manufacturing the items as in China and Vietnam. I will not be purchasing any Prada if it is made at 'slave' paid rates.

I just got a saffiano double zip tote. Does any one know where I can find the made in tag? I found the white tag with numbers but no made in tag. I would prefer mine to be made in Italy if I spend a fortune on it.

funny, i don't find any white tag, but the black one is on the left side at the back corner in my bag. right where the leather changes over to the nylon. (holding the bag with the prada logo facing you)

p.s. just found the white one inside a pocket :)

I was going to ask the question, but luckly I saw your post. Found my tag, made in italy! yay! But I have to say, it's a very small tag, I searched my bag a couple of times and wasn't able to find it. Thanks!

Wow! Hello Im new to this forum and the reason I joined is because I think I have one of these Prada bags that is mentioned above!! I am going to post pics in the 'Authenticate This' thread, for some verification.
I purchased this Prada online from PoshMark. After checking it out, while its gorgeous & well taken care of, I don't think it's authentic. However I own one authentic Prada bag, so when comparing the two- I notice the materials used are EXACTLY the same!!! I mean this bag is great. Well made. There are three things though, that lead me to believe its a fake. Oh by the way, this is a Prada Dragon Bag. The letters in Prada, on the tag that hangs off the bag, do not seem spaced properly. Unevenly spaced. Would Prada let that slip?? I don't think so. Another is- not all the gold hardware is marked Prada. Now I'm not sure if every single piece needs to be marked... Maybe someone here knows. The last thing is that I've been told, along with the authentification cards, there will always be a small white tag inside the interior zipper pocket with a lot # on it. My authentic Prada has this as well, but the Dragon bag does not.
I am just shocked though that I believe the materials used to make this limited edition, are REALLY Prada????!! Could I own one of these bags that was produced 'after' production had ceased?? Ahhhhh! Disappointed.

Had a look at your Dragon bag. Fake as the day is long and for a string of reasons that won't be posted publicly. I've had the authentic dragon bag and yours isn't even close. Sorry.

The only way to be certain of receiving an authentic Prada is to buy one at a Prada boutique. Even high end retailers have suffered the "buy authentic/return a fake" scam.
