This reminds me of a conversation that me and my coworker had last week.
So she was telling me how she thinks Prada is a notch more superior than Dior. I actually don’t favour one or the other, but my experiences are Dior products are actually more expensive, and they don’t go on sale as much as Prada. Quality wise, I have products from both brands and I must say I am more satisfied with Dior.
So that’s what I told her, and she told me Dior is cheap…
I was speechless…I don’t think she has ever seen the Lady Dior line…

Thanks PradaPsycho! Do you think switching to the Milano plate has to do with having a consistent logo so that it's easier to hide where something is made? The SA from the store in Hawaii where she bought is gonna reserve a "Made in Italy" tag bag for me. If I'm paying that much, I want to know, I'm getting an all Italian made product.

No doubt in my mind that this was the reason. If the plaque says "Made in Italy" it has to be made in Italy. By putting only "Milano" it just implies that Prada's home base in Milano. Hence the need to go rifling though bags looking for the actual "Made In [wherever]" tag in order to meet international trade laws. Why all the subterfuge? Because Prada isn't stupid. They know their customers want Made in Italy, so this is how that illusion is maintained. Dishonest? IMHO: YES!
Any more, comparing Prada to Dior is like comparing Target to Nordstrom or Neiman Marcus. No contest. Dior is still leaps above Prada.

I'm researching the latest curiosity from Prada. If you have one of the suede lined bags that Prada has released in the last year or two, please do the following and post your findings here along with the style number, or better yet a photo.
Open the inside zippered pocket and pull it inside out. There will be a white tag with a number and a dark blue tag that says Made In [wherever]. If you can get a pic of the tag, super. If not, just post where it says it's made.
Finally, when posting your findings, please include where the bag was purchased (Prada boutique, Saks, NM or elsewhere).
Seems Prada may be running phase two of the "Pleather" saga, but I need some more research.

I just posted a thread wondering where my 'made in' tag is, I can't find it anywhere on my saffiano lux double zip tote. I just bought it today at a Prada store in NYC.

I was reading an article about Gucci, something to do with how luxury has lost its lusture about to qualify for Made in XXX, they could do the whole bag elsewhere and bring back to the Italy and add a bolt or nut and then - it's Made In Italy. Also how some village employs tons of migrant to work on them...so whats the big deal with Made In Italy anyway? You are not getting artisan one way or another. Everything is mass produced to certain extend. I am more interested with the quality and durability. Having it made in Paris or whatever doesn't always guarantee that these days...be it Prada, Chanel or whatever. It's really sad.

I just browsed through this forum and read this. What you are saying is true but it disturbs me. (Not you, personally.) When a bag is mass produced in China it only costs a couple of dollars as opposed to a bag made in Italy. Placing a China tag on the bag only confirms how little the cost was to make it which would piss me off to no end! IMO the company then, does not have the right to charge exorbitant fees to purchase their bag since they took that route. It's their problem that they feel the need to spend excessive amounts of money to keep up. It in no way entitles them to rip the public off! I think that was the meaning behind this thread.
Exactly right, except it's more like *I* have the right to choose to take my money elsewhere, which I have. I have no issues whatsoever with bags made in China, or other countries. I've got a closet full of them they're all fabulous, well made bags. HOWEVER, not one of them cost over $400. Try finding a Prada ANYTHING for $400 these days.... Even Prada's basic hobo bag is $1100 or more....No thanks.
But it doesnt cost just a dollar or two to produce the bag...think about their marketing budget, admin, store rental in central and important areas. I know it would piss some ppl off to think that we have to pay for all that but thats the reality of life. I am pissed off seeing bloggers getting free bags for almost nothing and I know that I have to pay for their freebies through the high price that I am being charged for my bags.
I agree. Most luxury labels devote a lot of resources to presenting an image, whether it is through advertising, limited/slective distribution, celebrity-endorsement, and/or limiting discounts.
But I don't think that it is bad that bloggers and celebrities get things for free. They need to write about these items, so it's as if they are paid for the advertising that they do for these brands. The bloggers that get free merchandise probably worked very hard and had very unique ideas to get to where they are.
