Prada Bags: Now Made in China for Italian Made Prices."

I just bought a saffiano continental flap wallet and found the teeny tiny label that said 'Made in India". I was shocked and thought I had bought a fake. This is what brought me to this thread. I have to admit I am very disappointed even though I love the design of the wallet. At least I hope there is no difference between the wallets made in Italy and the wallets made in India. Does anyone know?

Made in Italy Prada arent really that much better anyways... not for what i had purchased (not a big prada fan anyways)
I purchased a flame clutch a few years back and it is labeled made in italy but the stitching was crooked and jagged, not smooth lines around the shapes.

More important would be their quality control and the standards they uphold and expect from the factories...
Even Made in China Kenzo has better quality control and is priced accordingly

"Made in Italy" is a joke nowadays. The Chinese sweatshops in Prato, Italy, are notorious. Whether Prada uses Chinese workers in Italy, I have no idea. However, I know someone in the fashion industry in Italy who told me that Prada has their clothing made in Morocco. However, the laws are so lax about the "made in" label that, if the products are finished in Italy, then they are "made in Italy." Customers are being duped into paying thousands of dollars for much the same product that they could get for much less with a different label. Do a search online about made in Italy and Chinese workshops in Italy. It is an eye-opener. Aside from that, the quality of "luxury" products has gone downhill. The silk scarves and leather handbags I bought decades ago are so much better quality that what you get now and I didn't pay an arm and a leg for those products.

If you laid eyes on a tag that said "Made in Italy" it was definitely made in Italy. The rules of international commerce (as I understand them, anyway) require placing the country of manufacture tags in everything now. Doesn't matter what the item is or the company.

Also, it's not just the suede lined bags. Some of them are made in Italy. The only way anyone can tell with 100% certainty is to look for the "Made in [wherever]" tag. Don't assume because it says "Prada Milano" on either the outside or inside metal/leather tags that it's made in Italy.

Good example: I recently ordered a Lancel bag. Clearly stamped "Lancel Paris" on the outside label and inside label. All the information that came with it talked about how wonderful Paris was and how special this French company is. I pull the lining out, lo and behold: MADE IN CHINA. I did some research on that one and sure enough, this dyed in the wool French company has been farming out their bags for manufacture to China the past several years.

I'm done with the whole thing. I've sold all but two of my older leather Pradas and my three nylon Pradas. The only new bags I'm buying now are Cole Haan, Michael Kors and bags that I know for fact are made in China or Indonesia, etc without having to rifle through the bag looking for "made in" tags. They are also priced accordingly. This is what bites about Prada sneaking the Made in China bags into their higher end bags: the prices are no different than the bags made in Italy. If I buy an Italian bag, by gawd, I want it MADE in Italy. If it's a French bag, I want it MADE in France.

Rant over.....
I absolutely agree. I have been offered very good almost new Lancel French Flirt bag at a reasonable but still not cheap price. Everything is great, also the color is right, but I have just noticed the tag China in . Now I am not quite sure anymore whether I still want it. Thay are so pointing out being French that I am really disappointed about that. BTW, some shops however state Made in Italy for this model. So I think I will drop it. Anybody got a suggestion?

as said above the laws are lax so the items are produced in cheaper countries like china and it would still say made in italy. especially prada is know for doing so. also pradas production varies much from factory to factory so authenticators have a hard job following and sometimes declare authentic items as fake as they are not aware of the differencies
