Hi everyone,

Maybe the prada bag is made in italy (the leather part), but the suede is made in china, and then sent to italy and put together?

No, unfortunately that's not how it works. Prada is fully manufacturing in China, Turkey, India, Africa, Romania (and probably a few other places as well) and it is all in an effort to keep costs down and profits up. And the noticeable lack of good, consistent, quality control has reduced these, once iconic, items to marginally better than supermarket vinyl. I won't touch any of the new Prada and probably won't buy Prada again in my lifetime. Why pay thru the nose for second rate designs and manufacturing???

According to what i know (i understand chinese and frequent chinese websites), the following brands are (at least partly) made in china:

1. Tory burch
2. Kate spade
3. Burberry
4. MBMJ
5. Michael Kors
6. Coach
7. Prada

I have have nothing against china, but have something against brands that cash in on cheaper wages and still charge us so much for their bags!! will never pay "made in italy" prices for "made in china" products.

That was actually most of the entire point of this thread. I have gobs of Made In China bags and love them to bits, BUT they were priced accordingly (Under $400 in most cases). I started this thread well over two years ago and haven't bought a Prada anything since then.

The other point is how Prada is going to such great lengths to hide the "Made in China" (or wherever) from their customers. With every "Made in China" bag I have by other designers, the tags are very easily seen in the bag. With Prada, you've got to nearly take the bag apart to find the "made in" tag. I've not seen this with my own eyes, so I can't vouch for it as accurate, but I've also read about bags where the Prada sales associates actually REMOVE the "Made in China" tag. Sorry, but I'm not paying for subterfuge, Miu Miu!

Which is EXACTLY why Prada SAs are SPECIFICALLY NOT PERMITTED to authenticate. This one OBVIOUSLY knows stuff all about their product. And generically, most of them wouldn't know the difference between poop and pipe clay.

Many, many lines of Prada bags are made in china whether she likes it or not and whether she knows it or not.

My local NM handbag manager said the same thing months ago. She doesn't know what she was talking about. Handbag Manager title does not suit her.

i was in milan prada outlet and saw a nice nylon tote bag w saffiano leather trim BR4253(308 euro net of tax). i told my tour groupmates who bought there that almost all outlet items are made in china, although we were unable to find the "made in" tag. i bought it anyway coz i just could not resist it and i really need a lightweight bag. imagine my surprise when i got home and check it thoroughly and it was Made in Italy. whew!!!

Ladies,

I'm planning on getting a Saffiano this weekend, and as am looking at Bergdorf Goodman site, all their saffiano says made in Italy. Do you gal think they are just saying it or it does really come with a tag inside saying made in Italy??

Prada profits in 2012 rose by an astonishing 45% while revenue actually only grew 29%, meaning that somewhere between revenue and profit, a lot of cost-cutting has taken place (i.e. by producing in China and India). I'm sure that their executives and shareholders are very happy.

This Made in China thing is either kept so discreet that the majority of customers still don't know, or that they simply don't care. I think that it's more of the former than the latter, since those "made in" tags are now so hidden in their products, and most customers are misled into thinking that their bag is made in Italy when they see the "PRADA Milano" plaque.

Anyone here own prada br4826? Is it phased out already? Is it made in china ? Im thinking of buying it but is it too slouchy and big? I noticed it and get attracted to it because of its chain handles. But im thinking if its good to pair up with dress from casual to dressy events because of it slouchyness. Tia!

I went to Saks for my bag and nearly turned the bag inside-out to find the 'made in' tag. I told the SA exactly what I was trying to confirm. No harm in inspecting that and quality if you are making the purchase in person. Even 'made in Italy' does not guarantee that it is perfect. I did my research, understood the 'made in china' and overall quality declined (not just prada but just about everything else). As it is, I came home with my saffiano and still found a slight defect in the seam sealing that I couldn't talk myself out of that it was ok and took it back to exchange it. The good thing about buying from the likes of Saks, NM and Bergdorf is that return/exchange is never a problem. I love the bag and have gotten huge compliments on how beautiful it is and am enjoy it everytime it's with me :D. Looking forward to your reveal.

Whether there is intent to hide where it is produce or not, savings in making the products are usually not passed along to the customer but to increase profit - especially true when involving a luxury brand where price decrease deems to 'cheapen' it and, of course, the general perception that money shouldn't matter that much when the consideration of purchase is a designer handbag. I don't mind spending the money but the quality needs to be there and a $2k bag should not be falling apart after light use (such as what I've been reading about in other threads here).

Thank you!

I was at NM looking at the bag and cannot find the made in tag anywhere and I told the SA what I was looking for and she thought I'm out of this world...but I still could not find it anywhere. The only thing I was able to find was the little white square tag with the number I think it said 10 and other side said 13. Must be the qc tag but cannot find the made in tag anywhere. The SA kept on pointing at the plague inside and out in the bag and kept on telli game look its Milan its made in Milan. I didn't feel comfortable and so I walked away and want to consult with you guys first whether or not I should pull the plug. I mean I really like the bag but not sure if I want to spend 2k on a made in china bag and also it's resell value is not as good as Chanel or LV. Thoughts?
