Bull$hit! It's absolutely THE LAW to have a "Made In....." tag in any merchandise be it a Prada handbag or a pair of jockey shorts. Those people were clueless and Prada continues not only to break the law by removing those tags, they are also lying to their customers.

From my soft calf from Prada's 2012 fall's collection:

My Soft Calf had a made in tag just like like that.

Hi guys, always been a silent reader. This is my first post as I am at the moment quite confused with this 'made in' tag issue.

Last week I bought a new Prada bag as a gift for my MIL. Bought it at one of the Prada boutiques in Paris. When we arrived at the hotel then only we thought of trying to find the made in label, as LV bags clearly stamps their made in label on their bags. We cant find any made in label inside the Prada bag. There is tho the small white tag with a few numbers on it inside one of the pockets.

After reading this thread i was afraid that we might have bought a made in china bag (as there is no made in tag!)..and it kind of freaked me out. Imagine going to europe for holiday & buying someone a gift that is made in china.. :(

So the next day we brought the bag back to the boutique and asked the SA to show us the made in tag..in case it is so well hidden that we cant find it. I think at first he did not understand us as he keeps on assuring us that there is that guarantee card in the bag and the bag is authentic. We understand that the bag is a real prada and even the made in china ones are authentic, right? So being unable to convince us he called in his director to assist.

According to the director..there is no made in label in ANY prada bags. She has never seen one and she even showed us a few other bags..and there is no made in labels in the bags that she showed us. She said that it is a fact that prada owns factories in other parts of the world incl china, but she assured us that ALL handbags are made in italy. When i asked her what about the other bags where there is a made in tag? And of course she cant answer my question. She started to talk about people buying stuff from reseller, buying 2nd hand, bla bla bla.

I asked a friend who has a prada bag which she bought in italy. And she also did not find a made in label.
So what does this mean? I am confused why it is not consistant? When i asked the director how come other people have this made in tags she implied that maybe the bags are not authentic (???!!!?) because she said all the bags in her boutique do not have that made in tag. Only purses have it embossed.

Any opinions?

Btw at the end we did not return the bag. MIL was very happy when she opened her gift. However we never told her about this made in tag issue :)
Hmmm I don't know what to say about the manager and the staff of the boutique you went to there but all bags should have a Made in stamp and for Prada bags, I believe they make it incredibly small! Very small, so small you will miss it. I went into a shop the other day and I thoroughly went through the inside of the bag til I found the tag that said a tiny little Made in Italy. It is located in the same area as in the pic of one of the reader's bag that she posted on this thread.

My theory is, ask the staff at any shop and make them show you proof that the bags are made in Italy, like a proper Made in Italy tag on the bag. Don't believe it other wise. Because in my experience, when shop assistants talk in circles and can't really show proof, it means the bags are Made in China.

I once asked a sales assistant, where a particular Prada bag was made and the reply to me was "Most Prada bags are made in italy". It didn't answer my answer but it did answer my question. If the bag was made in Italy, they would say so out right and not say "most bags". So yes, I did not purchase that said bag after drawing my own conclusions.

Hope this was helpful. I am a sucker for details :)

I would not believe a word that comes out of any of the Italian sales people, in Italy!

If you are buying a product in USA, the Prada then it must have the country of origin -- this is the LAW!

NEIMAN MARCUS and SAKS and BLOOMINGDALES have their PRADAS stamped with MADE in ITALY if they are Made in Italy.

Somehow, these Big Retailers have also 'skirted' the Law because the Made in China and Made in Vietnam Pradas are now labelled as 'imported', so when you look on their website for ordering a Prada, if it is Made in Italy, these retailers will boldly tell you that. But if they are made in the Asian countries, then, their website says, 'Imported', they are deceptive and do not tell you where they have been imported.

I have Prada BN 1713 in soft calf (suede lined inside) and I can't find "made in" tag :nogood: There is only white tag with number in pocket (inside). I bought it in Prada outlet in Europe so I'm sure it's autenthic. Is it possible that some Prada bags don't have "made in" tag :confused1:

The only reason why I buy expensive bag is for it quality. I dont' care if my handbag was manufactured in China, if it still has perfect quality. But not to put "made ii" tag anywhere? How is this possible?! That pissed me off. Moreover, I have a problem with a bag (plastic flakes weld on the one handle) and going with her to Prada Boutique for reclamation (have the bag for about 10 months). I'm so sad about this :crybaby:

Otherwise I love my Prada bag so much.

Two things: Prada Outlet bags are 99.999% of the time made in China (sometimes Romania or Turkey). The other? It's not real suede. It's moleskin fabric made to look like suede. Kind of like the "pink pleather" that was being sold as leather lining. It never ends....

Prada Psycho, as I wrote, I do not mind that the bag is made in China. A lot of things that we use every day are made in China as well. Made in China doesn't equal automatically bad.

What bothers me is that they keep quiet about it and my bag (and many others) does not have 'made in tag'! This is just terrible. And unfortunately I'm not satisfied with quality but maybe I just had bad luck with the bad piece, it becomes even Hermes. I wonder what will provide service under warranty.

I'm quite confused and disappointed. Prada makes such wonderful things with minimalist design and still is just more affordable than let's say Celine. But it's still a lot of money that people spend on it and they lied or conceal the facts?! Oh boy!

I agree, like if you wanna buy a branded Italian bag you would at least expect it to be made in Italy. We are already paying for the quality and their profit is probably more than what we can speculate, then why not make it in the country of origin? At least to preserve the whole image of the brand being costly in all aspects of designing to manufacturing to the leather they are using

In Europe, it is not a law to place the "Made in" tag on products. Products with "Made in (any European country)" tag will be displayed if products are made in Europe. Anything without the "Made in" tags are made in other countries (ex. China).

I'm speaking from personal shopping experience in many European countries.

Im with pradapsycho and missfiggy we dont care if its made in china as long as its priced accordingly and not deceive us by not telling us where its made. Btw, simeone told me that saffiano pradas are only made in turkey and italy is this true? Coz i saw a prada saffiano 1801 with made in china in it. this means its a fake? (The bag is my friends bag and she bought it from Prada macau)

No - it doesn't mean it's a fake. It was bought from a Prada store. Prada stores don't sell fakes. It means that the bag was made in China. And this is the tag that is being hidden and/or removed from saffs in the US. That's where the deceit is occurring.

Oh no! I'm taking Prada off my wishlist. I can gett a saffiano leather bag at MK, who are at least upfront about where they make their bags. I really despise companies that try to pull a fast one over their customers, most of whom are very brand loyal, and are so because of quality.

This really cheeses me off.

Actually a point is taken on the fact that Prada bags are less expensive than Celine or Givenchy for that matter. Like nylon Givenchy bags are made in China and they are not expensive at all. But still for me I'd rather buy a French branded bag made in France, an Italian branded bag made in Italy..etc.
