well, I sometimes think that they aren't as ignorant as they pretend to be

This SA certainly tried to take me for a fool but maybe I was just unlucky and got a mean SA. :shrugs:

I'm more than certain they are not ignorant rather they have canned answers as directed by their management regarding where the bags are made- I also got the answer that nylon/ microfiber bags sold at stores on sale are especially brought in during sale season and are made in china- mind you, but not leather bags- which is what I bought and was questioning because my bag's "made in....." tag was cut off. Of course my bag was made in Italy even if it didn't have a tag ....whatever!!!

I'm finding this apparently common practice of intentionally removing provenance tags not only deceitful, but questionably illegal.

Clearly Prada IS trying to hide something from its customers because they've figured out we know what's going on.

We know that definitely isn't true. They admitted to me that the leather sale bags were also shipped in specifically for the sales. The bags shipped in for sales are the same bags that are sold at the Space outlets. I asked the SAs where the leather sale bags were produced and they said all Prada bags are made in Italy. I said, OK, let's take a look. I picked up a leather sale bag and pulled the lining out of the pocket. Sure enough it had a Made in China tag. The SAs had no idea the tags were hidden in there. They acted sincerely shocked and embarrassed.

From what everyone is saying here, I think that it is safe to say that the majority of the bags at Space and the shipped in sale bags (non-runway) are mostly made in places other than Italy.

Prada Psycho, I think you are on to something regarding the cutting out of the tags. I agree with you that it is probably illegal. Surely we must have some lawyers on the forum that might shed some light on this issue. :sneaky:

On one hand I want to stop buying Prada, but I have to admit that they make great everyday bags that are easy to use. They also do a lot of cross body bags which is very useful for me. With all of the fakes on ebay, it is hard to buy things in the aftermarket. I may just have to make due with what I have or find other brands that make similar styles.

Do you think those bags were made and shipped in just for the sales and their outlet stores? Like how Coach and Gucci have bags that were just for sale at their outlets.

Don't know about the sales, but a highly respected and reputable Prada SA once told me that the majority of Space Prada bags are made in China, specifically for sale at Space outlets. Makes me wonder now long THAT deceptive practice has been going on...

Please read Dana Thomas' "Deluxe: How Luxury Lost it's Lustre", pages 200-205. Prada has been outsourcing production of many of it's bags to China since 2006, and other bags are assembled at multiple sites and may only have some parts attached in Italy (and so have found a loophole by which they can declare a bag or shoe is made in Italy). Many luxury brands are doing this now, we need to stop being shocked and start deciding that we are either ok with it, or we aren't (and refuse to buy certain lines, products or even brands). Either way, read, educate yourself...you will save yourself money and misery in the end!

Well, that is what the SAs told me. I don't know for sure if it is true or not.

Thank you very much for this piece of valuable info Chi town Chanel & PP. :smile1:

Hi Prada Psycho,
re your latest post (which I'm unable to quote), I hv 4 Prada bags, only 1 has the Made in Italy tag on a small pc of dark brown leather. Are the other 3 still authentic since they hv their respective authen cards? These 3 hv the 3-digit nbr tags in the pockets =((
The latest bag was from Space and I found out much later that the cashier only put back the authen card, so it doesn't hv the black care care+description cards with barcode ='(
Is it safe to carry any of these bags to europe one day?

I was at Prada Space outlet today; TONS of Bags made in China. Of course, you have to dig a long way through all that tissue paper and pockets in order to find they very, very tiny, very tucked away tag. I saved my money and bought some great Italian made shoes instead. Long story short, until Prada straightens up, buy something else.

Ps- interestingly, many of the Miu Miu products were made in Italy and were superior products, IMO. Strange...

Hmmm... Does it then mean that some of those bags that we see at some online Chinese stores could be really authentic but selling at less than half the RRP cos they might have contacts with these factories in China?

^^ Of course they are! :smile1::D They are genuine Prada, they are just produced in China and not in Italy. Every item in a Prada store /outlet is authentic, of course ;)

Just like some other brands, eg. Louis Vuitton, make their items in France, Spain or USA and they are all authentic Vuitton (at their stores; of course there are many fakes out there, but those are not connected to Vuitton in any way).
