Hmm... Do you girls think that bags 'made in China' and 'made in Romania' are only sold at the outlets?? :shrugs: Or is it possible to find them at the Prada stores as well?

Did any of you buy your 'made in China' bag at the Prada store (not outlet)? :smile1: TIA!

Yup, my backpack is Made in China and it was bought at Prada store @ Rome.

For my personal opinion, owning several Made In China and Made In Italy items by Prada make no difference to me cause the quality of all the items are good. The most important thing is I feel good carrying Prada ;->

I usually hang out in the Chanel forum, but I just read this entire thread. PP, I think you have summed this up entirely when you mentioned the history of the company. I've been complaining that I don't want my Chanel flaps to say Made in Italy on the inside. Italian leatherwork is outstanding, but Chanel is a French fashion house. I love Chanel so much that it matters to me. On the other hand, I use LV as total toss around bags and I don't care where they are made. But there are some LV lovers who want Made in France LV. I think it depends on the brands that you love, how you feel about them, how they make you feel, and why.

Sure companies want to improve their profit margins, but it does make me fussy when they cut corners and quality but increase their prices. Maybe I'm a sucker for buying luxury goods in the first place? But I have to draw the line somewhere.

On another note, the little tags with the number on them...maybe they are the number for the factory/production line that they were made in? I think it might have something to do with the location where the bag was made? Just an idea.

Me, too. When I got my first Chanel, I made my SA bring me every single bag from the back in the style I was looking at until she found me one that was stamped Made in France (the others were made in Italy).

Same with my only LV. It too, it was Made in France.

All of this is to say, for me at least, that I'm buying the history of the company along with the handbag. That's why I was adamant that I did not want a Chanel bag that was made in Italy (or an LV made [wherever] ) Chanel is a French designer, as is Louis Vuitton, so I personally want them to be made in France.

I'm horrified!! And I'm the one who always checks where bags are made ever since I knew of made in turkey Miu Miu- I have a couple so I've accepted it obviously. But my story is-I just read this thread- and just on Saturday I purchased two prada bags - one from Saks a papaya daino tote on sale and a grey soft calf with boarskin lining from the prada boutique on sale for 30% off. Anyway, after reading this, I checked both bags and the papaya from Saks is made in Italy but to my horror the bag from the boutique has the black tag where it's made cut off! I remember looking at the tag and it said Italy but now Im doubting myself because why was it cut and maybe I was looking at too many bags I got confused! Would anyone know how I can make sure where it's made?! Thank you!!!

That's totally bizarre, coming from Prada proper. I could see it happening at Saks or NM since they take returns and a customer could have done it. But Prada doesn't take returns, definitely not on sale merchandise, so I'd be knocking on their door asking them about that one if it were me.

I called the boutique and they said to bring it in- not like they will refund or exchange because it was on sale- the sa was in the back for awhile a couple of times because the snap was hard to open so he fixed the metal in button- why would he cut the tag off though?! I'm really mad at prada right now and I'm sticking to Chanel despite higher prices- really very disappointed with prada/ and I started liking it again given i stopped buying prada as much!!! No more prada for me just like I don't even look at Burberry anymore ever since they started mixing production in Asia and Europe! Just annoying that we always have to look at tags and I would sometimes ask sa s where bags are made and they look at me like I'm crazy and say- of course Italy!- I'd always say not always-but I really didn't know and expect prada would manufacture outside of Italy! Thanks for this thread by the way!

I'm really enjoying Ralph Lauren's bags these days. He has several tiers of pricing. His Collection bags ARE made in Italy, which I find a hoot since he's an American designer. The Lauren line is made in various locations overseas, but again, the price point reflects that. I've been noticing that even the Lauren line is better made than a lot of the Prada bags I've had my hands on the past few years.

Yep, I'm pretty well done with Prada myself, with the exception of vintage bags (made before Miuccia got so freaking greedy).

I'm beyond MAD and blood boiling right now. I officially hate prada and I'm even contemplating returning the one from saks even if it's made in Italy. I sure don't need prada in my life now. So the person who sold the bag to me is not in the boutique again, and so I said I wanted to speak with the manager and she was more than rude asking me to call back tomorrow because he's out and she needs to talk to him about it and that "I don't know what you want from this, that s why I need to talk to the sa" omg I was like "I want to know why the tag is cut and where this bag is made" she mentioned if I wanted a replacement, etc and I said if it will have a tag, etc I'll take that. Omg so mad. I'm done with prada...they will never be a chanel and I have more than two dozen chanels...I'll just start using them as my everyday bag which is what this prada was for. Grrrrr. Ladies, don't forget to check where your bag is made before and after purchase at the store in case this happens to you. I'm thinking he could have cut it when he packed it up after I paid - he was back there for awhile. Sounds odd and fishy but I still don't understand why it would be cut and why he would do that. I'm even thinking of calling my credit card and say I'm not satisfied- I just want to throw this bag back at them. Whole experience was not luxurious, product is not luxurious and not even know where it was made.... You are right prada psycho- greed greed greed. I hate that I'm a victim of that... But big lesson learned. Tempered handbag shopping for me and no more prada for me!

You ladies are absolutely correct. I am reading a book about luxury losing its luster. A lot of these bags and items are cheaply made; however, they cost an arm and a leg. Once items reach the masses, it is all about profit from there. Why do you think there are so many Birkins on the market now? You may as well buy a reasonably priced, well made bag than the designer crap that is being created now. Supply and Demand (Economics). The consumers are the dummies for buying this worthless crap. I was one of those dummies until I started paying attention to quality. When you start seeing soccer moms and young girls carrying all these designer brands, you can imagine the quality is compromised.

Miuccia Prada said it best, the stuff in the Prada stores are garbage. It is not her that is greedy; it is the big corporations. The small mom and pop designers back in the day (i.e. Gucci, Prada, and etc.) were bought out by the big corporations who have taken the companies public.

I dont really care were they produce bags. As long as I get the best quality, for the expensive prices.

BUT an italian brand with milano all over the bag, should NOT produce outside italy.

Its like making a shisha in russia. Just no.

Yeahmy bag says prada Milano but I still don't know where it's made given tag was cut. I feel like I bought a bag from a factory outlet but really bought it from the boutique at scp and paid over $1k...granted it was on sale, but their sale practice is just not fair...never again. I've learned my lesson.
