Prada Bags: Now Made in China for Italian Made Prices."

wow- this is a very interesting thread. I just surveyed my prada bags. All are from Neiman Marcus. 7 of them have a made in italy tag or plaque and 2 of them I could not find any made in tag- only found the small white tag with a number in the pocket.
That's strange. You should check again carefully. All the bags should have a "made-in...." tag.

Interesting thread; I am going to the Prada outlet in Italy next month...it will be interesting to see if those items are made in Italy, or are actually made in China "discards". It certainly would not be much of a bargain then! Like most people here, I want my bag made in Italy for that price!

I have been searching for this handbag and have been having little to no luck in finding one. I believe it was from from 2008/2009 line. If anyone knows where one can be found that would be great!! Thanks

I just looked at the Prada Fall collection bags on the Neiman Marcus website and this was the description for a $1995 woven tote from the Madras collection (check out the last line):

Madras Woven Double-Handle Tote
◦Moro (brown)/nero (black) woven madras leather.
◦Leather trim.
◦Removable shoulder strap.
◦Goldtone hardware.
◦Suede lining.
◦Made in India program

when you look at the same bag on the Saks website the description is "Made in Italy" and the other Madras bag descriptions just say "Imported".

For $1995 I think I would like to know where the bag was really made.......and what in the world do they mean by "India program"?????????

"Imported" normally means it was manufactured in China. Personally, I called Nordstrom customer service once to ask about an "Imported" item. I was told it was made in China. Ever since then, I don't even bother looking at "Imported" items online anymore.

Prada launched a "Made in" series last year and it was said that they have a artistic and cultural theme to their bags for this series. The woven bags are Made in India while there are other series that are made in other 3rd world countries. So it's no surprise as this was published in leading fashion and travel magazines.

Considering how SERIOUSLY fugly and even more seriously overpriced Prada's fall line is, especially in light of the loss of the Italian Made provenance, I'm so glad I kissed off Prada. Don't miss it at all. I'm enjoying designers like Ralph Lauren, (ironically, an American designer whose Collection line is Made in Italy. :lolots:

"Fugly" sums it up perfectly.
I have moved away from Prada as well and only have one left in my collection. It's a keeper because of it's classic, timeless style, superior craftsmanship/materials and was made in Italy before Prada started this type of stuff. For those who are looking for alternatives to Prada, you might want to check out Tod's handbags.

Here you go:

Prada's Seriously Fugly Fall Flops

If that doesn't take you right to it, just go to Neiman Marcus' website and click Handbags/Prada/Fall Collection.

You're so right that their Fall collection is "fugly", the quilted bags with chain strap look too much like Chanel and the woven ones are too much like Bottega Veneta. I like my older Prada bags so much more now.
