I have just read your post, how awful. I am sorry that this happened to you. I am crossing my fingers that the perpetrator is charged and that the items are returned to you.

The police called me this evening to let me know they made an arrest. Apparently the individual, an employee of the company who owns and manages the apartment complex I live in, was found with one of my bags in their possession. They won't tell me who it is right now nor will they tell me which one of my bags was recovered.
This is a step in the right direction!! Great news keep it coming :)

Thank you everyone for your support, suggestions, and offers to keep an eye out online! It really means a lot to me and I'm beyond grateful.

Update: Yesterday afternoon/early evening I went to LV and had most of the receipts reprinted and then saw my insurance provider afterwards. Despite the police report, receipts, and detailed description of my property the insurance company was extremely reluctant to start a claims case because they think this theft is either a scam (because of the particular items stolen and the fact that my electronics and jewellery were left behind) or 'if genuine' would be a result of my negligence and they accused me of "forgetting to lock my door". WTF! Right now they want to play the wait-and-see game, although a claim has been submitted, before they will reimburse me for my losses. Jesus riding a bicycle to mass on a Tuesday I hate dealing with insurance:mad:
The police are still actively investigating, apparently they have video surveillance and a witness, and the company that owns and manages the apartment complex is being cooperative. Maintenance will be coming by on Monday morning to install a new lock on my door - it has to a specific one to match the skeleton key used by the management company. I've also contacted Fashionphile and Yoogi's Closet in case the thief tries to sell to them.

Uh I am so sorry to hear your insurance is giving you the run around but I am sadly not surprised. At my last job (law firm) I dealt closely with insurance and would see how they would jump through hoops to avoid paying on a claim or paying benefits even though the customer has been paying them how ever many years for when they may need it, it is obscene.

I am happy to hear an arrest was made! Hopefully you will get your items back in the condition they were taken in and then you can tell the insurance company to go scratch.

I'm so happy that an arrest has been made, and I hope you recover your bags.
I'm saddened to think someone would steal your collection. I guess the thief has to be a woman employee. It's really creepy and she likes has been inside you apartment snooping through your cupboards, to know where you store them.

I am so happy they found the thief and hope all your bags will be recovered in excellent condition. How sad and disappointing people can just have access to you place but it is far more common then one would think. About 25 years ag I worked in a condo part time and also lived there. The managers office had a wall box with a copy of each nits keys on them by apartment number. While it was usually used for maintance emergencies it was also absurd by some of the security guards who would go into a vacant condo. With the owners living out of state and they would entertain their girlfriend in one. They never got got in trouble for doing this. Also the maintenance people would just go in with workmen and have people in different rooms so to me things could be easily stolen and nobody would ever know. We put a new lock on our door and just let them keep the old lock. I never felt secure when other people can have access to my home in some way. But that was way back before all the new security devices we now have available. I would look into getting one of the motion activated devices that contacts you on your phone if anyone enters your condo.
Wishing you the best.

Wow, hats off to the police! They clearly took this seriously & has people working on it. That's good to know. I'm sure all of your meticulous documenting helped a lot too.

Hope you are doing okay. You're in my thoughts[emoji173]️

Re. security in apartments - we've rented a lot of places in the past few years as we weren't sure where to buy. Apartment keys could have been cut / replicated by any number of previous renters or their friends who may well have still be in possession of these keys. I was always aware of that and felt a bit insecure. Really, all apartments should have the locks changed in between tenants but nobody does this.

That was always something I was worried about when renting. The apartment complexes I lived in did change locks between tenants but that wouldn't stop employees from coming in, as was the case here. It's so unfortunate that you can't trust the very people you're giving your money to every month for rent! It makes me wonder can you ever really have privacy and security when you're renting? Maintenance or someone will always have access to your apartment.

I'm glad the police have made an arrest. I hope you get your bags back and in time, your sense of security. That's the worst thing they stole.

True. I basically don't like any strange men coming into my home for any reason!

I just have one thing to add to everyone's comments. Even if it's not technically "allowed" without permission, if you don't have one yet install a surface sliding bolt lock on your door for when you're inside, and sleeping at night... I've just read one too many scary stories about complex employees and contractors, with keys. Luckily it was just possessions this time and not you. But this complex has proven itself to not hire the most reputable, vetted people. So protect yourself. (And any windows too.) Best of luck in your bag recovery.
