This is a step in the right direction!! Great news keep it comingThe police called me this evening to let me know they made an arrest. Apparently the individual, an employee of the company who owns and manages the apartment complex I live in, was found with one of my bags in their possession. They won't tell me who it is right now nor will they tell me which one of my bags was recovered.
Thank you everyone for your support, suggestions, and offers to keep an eye out online! It really means a lot to me and I'm beyond grateful.
Update: Yesterday afternoon/early evening I went to LV and had most of the receipts reprinted and then saw my insurance provider afterwards. Despite the police report, receipts, and detailed description of my property the insurance company was extremely reluctant to start a claims case because they think this theft is either a scam (because of the particular items stolen and the fact that my electronics and jewellery were left behind) or 'if genuine' would be a result of my negligence and they accused me of "forgetting to lock my door". WTF! Right now they want to play the wait-and-see game, although a claim has been submitted, before they will reimburse me for my losses. Jesus riding a bicycle to mass on a Tuesday I hate dealing with insurance
The police are still actively investigating, apparently they have video surveillance and a witness, and the company that owns and manages the apartment complex is being cooperative. Maintenance will be coming by on Monday morning to install a new lock on my door - it has to a specific one to match the skeleton key used by the management company. I've also contacted Fashionphile and Yoogi's Closet in case the thief tries to sell to them.
That was always something I was worried about when renting. The apartment complexes I lived in did change locks between tenants but that wouldn't stop employees from coming in, as was the case here. It's so unfortunate that you can't trust the very people you're giving your money to every month for rent! It makes me wonder can you ever really have privacy and security when you're renting? Maintenance or someone will always have access to your apartment.Re. security in apartments - we've rented a lot of places in the past few years as we weren't sure where to buy. Apartment keys could have been cut / replicated by any number of previous renters or their friends who may well have still be in possession of these keys. I was always aware of that and felt a bit insecure. Really, all apartments should have the locks changed in between tenants but nobody does this.

I'm glad the police have made an arrest. I hope you get your bags back and in time, your sense of security. That's the worst thing they stole.
