Update: Yesterday the police handed me back what remains of my collection. My Speedy (thank goodness!), Shopping Sac, Bijoux Flocon charm, and the MK Multifunctional tote have been found but everything else has been, according to the thief, "sold":crybaby:
Right now I'm in the process of pressing charges, so I can't get into the deep details, but essentially what happened was last monday we had the annual unit inspection where an employee of the company enters our suits using their skeleton key, whether we're home or not, and makes sure that the appliances are in working order, that there's no damage to the suite, etc. and when done they leave and lock up. This is normal and, according to the law, all tenants must receive at least 24 hours notice. The only evidence that someone had been and gone was a letter on my kitchen counter saying that they had been there and a checklist showing everything to be in working order and that there were no outstanding concerns (i.e. cleanliness, pets, etc.). I believe that during the inspection the 'trusted' employee, who's on their own btw, took the time to snoop around and hunt for my purses - something of which they've always complimented me on when I go the office each month to pay my rent and something that never made me think twice...until thursday. This employee would've had a good idea when I would be away, now knew where my collection was, had access to my suite, and could move around the building and enter/exit my home without drawing any real attention, and on the way out leave my door unlocked. The really sad thing is that I waved to that person when I was walking towards the bus stop and the surveillance footage confirmed that they had taken my purses not even half an hour later.
The employee has since been fired and the company came by on monday to change the locks like they promised, although this was more of a gesture of goodwill rather than being effective since the remaining employees still have skeleton keys. The company has also agreed to change their practice and will now require at least two employees be present during inspections, maintenance, etc. since the thief has apparently been found with property belonging to other tenants. I'm also still wrestling with my insurance company who doesn't want to compensate me for my losses - something that has now been proven - and instead wants to target the owning company's insurance since it was their employee. I am NOT in the mood for this BS and will be going into the insurance company's office tomorrow and get this straightened out. I've paid my rate faithfully each month for the past 7 years with these clowns and they will - I don't care how they do it or who they go after - fix this and pay out:cursing:
After my last midterm this friday I will be moving to a different apartment, run by a different company, since my sense of safety has been shattered. I'm also moving the pitiful remains to a safer location for storage; simply put I no longer feel comfortable using them or even associating myself with them...at least for now. With that being said I'll be taking a break from tpf for a while; the loss is still very raw and being here is painful reminder for me.

Again I'd like to give a big thank you to everyone for your support, whether it was with comforting words, heartfelt advice, or taking time out of your busy lives to look online, during these past few days. Happy Holidays (although it's still early) to everyone and may the new year be as awesome as you want to make it!

God, what a mess. I know I don't contribute much on this forum and I don't visit LV that often, I always liked reading your thoughtful and witty posts. I'm so sorry that this happened to you; reading things like this make me so sad and angry. Sure it's only material items but to have something stolen is just so violating and scary. And sadly, I'm not surprised the insurance company is making you go through hoops. After my roommate's items got stolen from our storage unit in our complex, her insurance refused to cover items because it wasn't in our apartment (wtf???). She just let it go, but I hope that you keep fighting for the compensation you rightfully deserve.

Again, I'm truly sorry for what you had to deal with. I wish there was more I could say.

I'm so happy they made an arrest and you are pressing charges, however, how did she unload these items so quickly?! Did she literally bring everything to a consignment shop? Is one of her friends holding them for her? This girl is so dumb and obviously quite jealous of you. Why would you do something like this to another person. How could she be that dumb to think that should would not be caught and prosecuted? I guess thieves just don't think. I'm happy you got a few items back but I would love to know where the others have gone....

I am so sorry this happened and I will miss your posting here on TPF but I understand you need some time away from the purse circuit. Its terrible how some people can look you in the face and act like they are being friendly when they are really thinking about robbing you. I know how you feel now, kind of like a walking target and on top of that now the bags hold a bad memory but as time passes it will get easier. After I was targeted to be robbed due to my LV's (not at home thankfully, what happened to you is the ultimate theft violation) by a woman who also complimented my bags and acted friendly towards me, I still sometimes feel uncomfortable thinking who is going to want to rob me next but I love my bags and I just refuse to allow anyone to make me get rid of them or not use them which I have honestly thought about doing. I hope to see you back on TPF soon and I am happy you atleast got some of your collection back.

Also as for as the insurance is concerned I am not surprised the company is now refusing to pay because they want to go after the buildings insurance, they always have an excuse it seems. I would inquire to them if you haven't already that they pay you out and then they can go ahead and do what they want, why should you be stuck in the middle and forced to wait around? Also the landlords insurance may not even cover tenet loss or stolen property I thought typically what would be covered under a landlords insurance policy would be damages from structural issues. I would think in cases of employee theft where let's say you didn't have renters insurance that your most likely option would be to sue the landlord for negligent building operations or negligent employee hiring which lead to the theft of your property. It's time for your insurance to shut up and pay up and you can tell them speedyjc of the purse forum said so.

That's correct SpeedyJC - it would be rare to find anything in the apartment complex owner's insurance policy about their liability for loss resulting from theft. It is much more likely to be down to their liability as an employer, since the loss occurred as a direct result of the actions of somebody employed by and representing their company. They could settle that claim privately or else the victim of the theft can pursue a criminal case for compensation - the owners of the complex would be mad to allow that to happen.

Nevertheless, the victim's insurance company always has an obligation under the terms of the insurance policy (unless it's expressly stated otherwise). They should pay out and they are free to recover the loss from the offending party unless the figure is so low they will simply write it off (which is the norm for relatively small cases like this).

Insurance companies always try it on these days - this year it took me months to sort out what should have been a very straightforward claim for storm damage to my roof. They tried to get out of it on the basis that my roof was over 30 years old. I threatened to go to the insurance Ombudsman as a result, which made them pay up pretty quickly. Therefore Miss Krys very likely has recourse to whichever body governs insurance companies in her country.

I am so sorry this happened to you but I am glad that they caught the SOB. I hope you're able to receive what you're owed from insurance and feel safe again. It is not easy to have your security taken from you like that.

I'm so sorry that your had this terrible experience Miss Krystal. My home was broken into several years ago and my jewelry and electronics were stolen; I remember how awful it felt and how frightened I felt to be in that house after it was robbed. I'm glad you got part of your collection back and will keep my fingers crossed that the insurance companies do the right thing. You kept pristine records so I think that ultimately you will prevail. Good luck- I hope to see you back on PF when you are settled into your new place. PS- You inspired me to document my own collection.

My heart aches for you Miss Krys. I just found this thread so I don't know if you will see this, but I hope you can focus on something positive in your schooling. You will get some joy out of your bags after some time has passed and hopefully be back. We are all behind you!

Sorry to hear..... Thats why I keep mine in a safe and insured

Um What?? (Student = Money?) Good idea to read the whole Thread before posting? :whut:

What has a pic of a Gun safe got to do with Miss Krys being violated in such a manner?

It is so much more then just about her items being stolen?
