wow what a story, your post just popped up in my suggestions...

so sorry to hear that many bags were still lost, could some be retrieved meanwhile?

I'm astonished that the property people can just walk into the apartments whether the tennants are home or not, in my country that would be really deep hard trespassing, even a landlord is not allowed to have spare keys to your doors and he can't just walk inside even if he'd give you prior notice like in your case (like for cleaning the furnaces, roof etc.)...oh my I'd be so scared for my belongings, I even don't trust handymen when they are working in my apartement even when I'm there...

OMG! I just saw this! Were you able to find any of your bags??? I wish I hadn't been so absent from eh forum when this happened. I could have been keeping an eye out for these popping up locally. :(

@Miss Krys, I am SO sorry that this happened to you. I can't even express how badly I feel, and I can only imagine how difficult it must have been :crybaby: The most important thing is that you were safe. I feel disgusted that someone would actually do something like that, especially a "trusted" employee. I know those items had sentimental value to you, and I completely understand that. I know there's nothing that I can do or say to make you feel better about it, but just know that I do care... :hugs::heart:

Thank you for your support - this is why I love tpf because everyone here "gets it" when it comes to purses and how much they mean to us. The only pieces that were successfully retrieved was a MK tote, my Speedy 30, the Shopping Sac, and my Bijoux Flocon charm. Everything else, according to the thieving beach, was "sold". I would have lost my other Delightful, Clemence wallet, DE Pochette Accessories, and DE Cles if I hadn't had them with me that day. Insurance finally came through on their end of the deal and I purchased a mon mono Keepall - more for show to the insurance company than anything else, plus it's harder to steal with my initials on it - and my parents replaced my original NF with a mon mono one for Christmas to match.

What a horrible story, @Miss Krys. I didn't follow this thread at the time of the events, so now I understand why you spent some time away from TPF. I'm glad you're back, I really like your posts, and I'm very sorry for your losses. I hope you're feeling better from the emotional wounds this has left on you and that you feel safe where you live now.

@Miss Krys - I'm sorry this happened to you and although some of your collection was recovered - the ordeal will always remain with you. In my adult life I've only rented an apartment on one occasion, while between home purchases. The idea of someone having access to my living quarters, without me being present was un-nerving to me , but even worse was the thought that any employee of the apartment facility with access to Master Keys, could enter my quarters at ANY TIME. While living in the temporary quarters, I planned not to need or keep any valuables in my apartment for reasons such as this. During this transition period, I stored valuables in a safe deposit box or left them in the care of my Mom.

Anyone living in an apartment may want to exercise caution in how much they "showcase" to neighbors and apartment staff. Someone is always observing your coming and going and not all observers have good intent. Investing in a high quality, heavy trunk/steamer with accommodations for a heavy duty, security, lock should be considered, so that purse treasures can be stored and locked away.
In my home I have two such trunks and although I don't store my handbags in them, they do contain some treasures. One intruder could not lift and carry either one of them single handedly.

It's also interesting that I read this thread at this time. Last Tuesday, I moved to another office and the keys to the furniture were missing. The possibility that an unknown person had the keys and could at any time access the furnishing and remove something prompted me to ask for the locks to be changed. Unfortunately, the response was budget doesn't accommodate "lock change requests". God is always watching over and blessing me and as it turns out - none of the keys the maintenance department tried worked, so the locks have to be changed.

I try my best to secure my belongings and not "make myself a target" in all situations, whether at home, work or daily travels.

So sorry that this happened to you. I'm glad you were able to find the culprit and get your money back from your insurance! Thank you so much for keeping us updated during your whole ordeal! :hbeat:

Being relatively new to the LV section of this forum, I just read through 12 pages of your unbelievably horrible ordeal. I have to make one small suggestion from my heart, and if anyone else has mentioned this, I am sorry, but why don't you go and purchase a simple wireless security camera and set it up facing your entry door. They take no time at all to set up and it will give you so much more peace of mind. We travel a great deal, so we have several cameras that we can view on our mobile device. You might want to consider it.

Thats awful, sorry to hear it. I had a bag with numerous SLGs, a laptop and iPad taken from my car while I was at work. I had left it on the back seat floor covered by a coat. Luckily there was surveillance footage of the smash and grab, a car parked next to the luxury cars in the lot and scoped the insides, and chose mine to smash a window and grab the bag. They had no way of knowing I had the bag on the floor of the backseat unless they saw me pull into work at 5am and cover it.

I was told by my insurance company that my renter's insurance would cover the loss. I made a claim and gave them police report number. I was asked to submit photos as proof of ownership (luckily I had multiple photos, including group shots of the items and photos of me holding them) and PDFs of digital receipts that showed date of purchase and location. After a week, i got a call back and they told me they would cover the full retail cost minus depreciation on all the items. If I were to repurchase each item within 2 years, I would receive the depreciation reduction back in full. This allowed me to go on a shopping spree and replace each item, sometimes with newer more updated items, some cases more expensive too. I just received the difference in depreciation up to the original purchase amount.

All in all the reimbursement was for $10,000, with a total depreciation reimbursement of $11800 by the time I replaced the items. I was notified by the insurance company (State Farm) that due to the large amount, I could be potentially removed as a customer in the event of frequent claims. This is my first claim with them in 5 years of being a customer. The letter came with tips on how to prevent future theft from happening.

I was incredibly thankful that it worked out. Luckily I had surveillance of the theft, a police report, and all receipts and pictures of proof of ownership and was not met with much resistance from the insurance company.

I'm so sorry this happened to you......which is why I NEVER leave my bags in my car, even if it's just to run quickly into the post office and drop off a package in the bin. Our local police consistently tell everyone via the news to never leave valuables in your car, even when "hidden" from view because sometimes the thieves merely take a chance that when they get into your car they'll get lucky and find something of value.

Oh gosh - I just want to invite you over for chocolate cake, ice cream and your fav beverage - on me! I am so sorry and just want to cheer you up! I am only a student myself so thinking about this just makes me sad/ angry beyond belief. Hugs to you!!
