Phoebe Philo is launching her own brand backed by LVMH!!

The bags are pretty underwhelming to me as well... I wonder if I've moved on from Philo styles while her design motif has stayed the same over the years.

The high prices and model scandal definitely aren't making the line any more attractive to me, either.

All of this totally.

Didn't want be e-lynched so did not say it outright but the drop looks very stale... Stuck in time and derivative...
So many brands have filled the gap when she left that this drop feels like she is on the tail-end of something, or waging some sort of arrière-garde type of battle. Like, we get it, that's your style but guess what, The Row, Helmut Lang, Peter Do, Jim Sanders etc. have kept on. We've been seeing their stuff around. Move on girl!
To be honest, this drop almost feels derivative of COS Atelier or Massimo Dutti LE...
And there is so much of her old stuff on the resale market... at better prices!

The shoes are giving Daniel Lee at Bottega vibes (I get that he worked with her at Celine, but I guess I expected something different, not more of what we've already seen)... The bags are boring and way too expensive.

Back to buying new Celine...

Some of these shoes are extremely granny core; what is up with those fringe loafers? But again, that's here clientele.
Looks like she is relying on the same group of ladies to carry her brand instead of attracting younger generations. No wonder Hedi Slimane got hired to replace her and is doing a better job. She would have taken Celine along with her into the old folks' home!

I find it interesting that the critical reviews from NYT, Vogue, etc are quite complimentary which is in contrast to our TPF early feedback. I had been hoping for some interesting bags but was also really underwhelmed. And while I fully admit that I'm not a "high fashion" kind of dresser, and therefore not her target demographic, the clothes seem so unwearable for anyone other than a super skinny tall model with a very long neck - it almost feels deliberately exclusionary.

The media is running the PR campaign for the brand because of solidarity and also LVHM is the Sugar Daddy in that affair. You do not want to run afoul of Don Bernard. LOL.

If you go everywhere where real people are commenting (comment sections in IG, YT etc.) it's quite another tone.
Maybe LVMH wanted to position a brand against The Row now that Celine is going for a younger demographic.

In any case it is selling very well, so somebody is loving it, can afford it and thinks she can wear it!

Very disappointed with the bags. Feel like I waited so long and it's a big let down.

Ah well at least I can buy a new Celine bag now which I had been putting off :P
My thoughts exactly - so disappointing but now I can target the Celine bags I want too :)

Also do we think the bags selling out is the whole trying to create fake scarcity tactic? I just can’t imagine who is snapping these up, but I guess who knows … there’s minimalism and then there’s just plain boring …

100%. I wore cheaper variations of these looks (as did we all) years ago. But, I have to confess that I was not a rabid fan back then either; she always had the reputation and vibe of a UES blonde playing louche party girl to me. (ducks head

Actually, apparently, lots of women had been saving up for years for that drop; so there were clients at the door, waiting with hard cash in hand.
But there is also a lot of disappointed philophiles who have clearly been priced out and are upset about it. So... I think they'll swarm the Old Celine second hand market, the Jil Sanders, Peter Do etc.
Now these bags were all available at the drop; and it is well known that quantities were going to be limited and new drops are expected later.
I think a lot a people are probably viewing this collection as some historic event and grabbing a piece of Fashion History. Also it might mark a shift in the fashion business model for High Fashion, from stores and runway to internet drops. Basically elevating the H&M and Zara drop game, because this is exactly what this is.

What’s to say there were only 10 of each available online 🤨

That Gig bag is a reincarnation of the trio

Totally.
She is basically reclaiming for her own brand some of her own past designs from Celine. And since LVMH is the Sugar Daddy in both cases, they won't sue for copyright or for duping.
Saying, basically, I am the O.G. in these styles, I am the grand-mama of those, I birthed them, now bend the knee! LOL!

Unfortunately (unpopular opinion here), her different spawns as well as all the Scandi brands do it better than her at this point in time, and at a cheaper price point. Not even talking about the straight up dupers (H&M, Zara, etc who will come up with knock off within like days...).
