Phoebe Philo is launching her own brand backed by LVMH!!

I understand the pressure of fans creating high expectations, but do you feel the bags and pricing are giving The Row a competitive edge? I was hoping for a bit more variety, even if the first line was limited in styles….
I agree. I have expected more elaborated pieces. The few bags are her style and sleek, but not very creative.
The tote just looks like any tote and very similar to my Marcella tote by Gianni Chiarini…

I’ve had a look, not much there that interests me. She’s obviously starting small. First thing I saw was a bag that costs £6200 😳
First thing I saw too! Their prices are quite steep across the board really. Quality looks great, but £6200 for a simple tote? Makes Devlaux’s XX’L seem good value for money (at £8k for a canvas lined weekender…with no shoulder strap); ps sorry for the deviation it was literally the first thought that popped into my head. The RTW looks impeccable but again, rather steep for a newly launched label.

The analysts at LVMH probably speculated that her rabid follower base would do anything for her, like good foot soldiers and vassals answering the call of their liege lady. Fandoms and fashion victimhood are usually very cult-like and feudal in both nature and structure.
Maybe that'll work.

The timing of that drop though, with respect to the recession might not be favourable.
I am actually very curious to see how the brand will fare. We keep hearing about these billionaire high spenders that are supposed to be the pillars of the luxury industry... all while actual numbers rather indicate that the real profits are made on volume over sales of high margin low cost items (SLG, scarfs, etc.) by the middle and lower classes. Yet, there are no pieces in the collection priced in the direction of an entry level purchase...
How many of such high spenders are there out there and how much can they realistically shell out every month before running dry themselves?

Sounds like a risky business model in this economy.

Underwhelmed by the bags, very similar to the Celine cabas for 2-3x the price! I like the trousers and the coats but they don't really seem differentiated enough to justify the price point. Maybe in person they're fabulous, but it's hard to say without trying them on. The zipper trousers are quite fun though, and so is the idea of calfhair on the handbags (how does this wear though?)

A few things are selling out already, so the market is clearly there

I did snag a pair of sunglasses - just hoping they suit my face !

Wish I hadn’t sold my cabas totes now 🙈

It wouldn't be surprising. Guess Philo has now been "forced" to use black models. If they took this time to reshoot for the website, that could have also lead to the launch delay.

Found this article that provides more context. If I am reading this correctly, Iman's experience took place in 2013.

Found another article from 2013 so yes, that's the time frame:
