the Jil Sanders,

IMO many bags in the last couple of seasons of Jil Sander are much more in line with old Celine than this. I obviously can't comment on the quality of the $8K tote (and everything else is sold out so who knows how much it was?) but JS bags are in a sweet spot of qualtity materials/workmanship and price point. No the resale value isn't there for JS but for me it's so what? In general I'm buying to use, not resell, but even so there is NO WAY ON GOD'S GREEN EARTH that I would spend $8K on a tote that isn't H/BV/Custom.

I fear that the LVMH bros have perhaps jinxed PP out of the gate.

(Also, why the hell bother to collect a mailing list if you're not going to use it? I forgot about the launch and didn't get an email that it was going live.)

For that price they should be saddle stitched. 😐

That’s even more than a saddlestiched “Diane” Duclos which is kinda wild. 😐

And another thing - plain black gloves are $800? Excellent handmade versions are readily available from at least two longstanding French glove companies for around 300 euros (and if you want to try to spend 800 you can get something far more interesting!). Seems like a silly item to be price gouging on.

All in all smells like an LVMH cash grab.

Totally.
She is basically reclaiming for her own brand some of her own past designs from Celine. And since LVMH is the Sugar Daddy in both cases, they won't sue for copyright or for duping.
Saying, basically, I am the O.G. in these styles, I am the grand-mama of those, I birthed them, now bend the knee! LOL!

Unfortunately (unpopular opinion here), her different spawns as well as all the Scandi brands do it better than her at this point in time, and at a cheaper price point. Not even talking about the straight up dupers (H&M, Zara, etc who will come up with knock off within like days...).

Oh well I enjoyed the PP/Celine ride for years and still have one luggage and one medium classic left, hope her old styles don’t increase on the pre loved market as I practically gave over 10 bags away on Vestiaire.

It will be interesting what she offers next and how her sales go, maybe she’s been out of the game too long. It was said she’d have to blow it out of the park for a comeback in this economic climate.

I’ll keep my Agnelle gloves thanks, love those. And I nearly always lose a glove 😂

Agree LVMH just keep getting richer while constantly charging the earth for luxury goods.

Honestly, if it is a success, and the brand establishes itself like the Row, some her old designs might increase in price or become collectibles... Some could even reach classic or iconic status...

The whole thing.
How about some gold plated sterling necklace for 5000 USD? That's nuts!!!
You can get 18k full gold necklace on the resale or even unbranded new for that money, what the Hell?

For the looks she offer, I can make do with COS or whatever, and if I want to spend fancy money I'll go to Totême, Joseph, Eskandar, whatever.

Oh wow I missed the vermeil - 5K?? LOL!!!

Really really out of whack.

I don’t know, The Row took a long while to establish and Phoebe fans waited so long most probably moved on. I did to some extent.

If her old Céline bags increase I’ll sell my classic as that bag is a pain in the ass to use.

Good analysis:

Thank you. I enjoyed the history, and watching the snippets from the Celine runway shows (I want everything!). But I was surprised at how little analysis there was of the new designs themselves. If I heard correctly, the gist is that Philo has added color to an over-saturated minimalist/quiet luxury market that the uber rich want to spend in right now, and that will sell.

So she's making expensive, colorful versions of things I could buy at Theory, Cos etc.

That's sad for me, and I can't say her website suggests that she's doing anything more significant.

I think she had put together the video prior to and in anticipation of the drop. She also says, if I remember well, that there will be a follow up.
There's several other videos on YT with people giving their opinions: basically, the non-media, non-groupies people are underwhelmed and disappointed.

Basically she is LVMH's answer to the Row & Co and the positioning is top of the food chain. The luxury industry will be concentrating on the uber rich and billionaire class to see it through the recession and Phoebe's return, pedigree, connections etc. are perfect.

Designwise, she basically picked up where she left, to reclaim her achievements and assert her Queen Bee status over her spawn, who basically hail from her and not the other way around. This is why the collection does not seem fresh. Actually it's totally stale. But so are most of the philophiles who are a bunch of 50+ ladies with money, I mean just check out the shoes (those loafers?). So it is coherent.

Apparently the next drops will be even more expensive. So the issue is there is no entry point for her younger fans. So is the idea to push those toward (new & old) Celine?

Personally I am again kinky or quirky or any bizarre garment. Everything I own must be real-life daily type of wear. I don't attend special events and I am home 99%, so don't care for fancy clothes for show. COS, Joseph, Theory, Totême etc will do just fine for me.
