I will leave this reminder as a sticky because tthis is often a thread that new members (or new Hermès lovers) post on - hopefully temporarily.

What are the chances of a first timer in Paris boutique being able to walk in, find an SA and hit it off and maybe get a leather appt? Assuming no purchase history in any French or European boutiques every”?
In my experience you will have more luck if you have a French / European purchase history even if its very small. In my case they checked if I had a purchase history before giving me a walk in leather goods appointment in Paris last year (I got a C24). The individual SUs usually cannot get you a leather goods appointment, they have to go through and have it approved by the leather goods desk. Of course you may get lucky or if you buy items on the spot that day it could count too.

Question for those with a Paris SA who they book leather appointments with, do you only contact them before your Paris trip to book the appointment and shop for other items during the appointment? or would you also contact them to place orders for you during the year? (I have an address in Paris so delivering items isn’t too hard)
Not sure if I’m bothering my SA by requesting items to be ordered - or if it’s frowned upon to only contact them when an appointment is required? Any advice/ opinions would be appreciated!
Whatever is easiest for you and your SA. Some members send a list with their appt, but I’m pretty sure thats what the client and SA prefer. I say that I like to be spontaneous (but in reality, I’m too lazy). If I see stuff I like when I’m there, and it’s within my size and my budget, I buy it. Also, I like to have the SAs opinion, along with my DH’s, and no one can tell unless I’ve tried it on.

We had an FSH appointment today at 2pm. My regular SA has been on maternity leave for over a year. The substitute with whom I made all of the appts since (three appts thus far) is away for six months. She arranged for a substitute who couldn’t make it. So, that person arranged for someone else. The only thing that didn’t change was my appt date and time

We had a lovely time with the substitute three times removed from my regular SA . Usually I go to a dress8ng room to see RTW, and I select bags later, but this time it was just bags. I always have a photo folder of my favorite outfits and fashion inspirations,* and I wear stuff that demonstrates what I like. I prefer doing that rather than asking for specific items which they might not have available. She was gone a very long time.

At the first pass, I was offered a B25 vert Rousseau lizard touch (12,800 EU I think) and a 32 black box plume (the latter mainly bc I have a 32 black Dwich plume in my inspiration folder). I am usually able to buy a QB and a non QB at a FSH appt, but I reject more than I buy. I thought both bags were both very nice, but that the B25 was too close to a K25 that I have in bleu orage. The black box plume, everyone thought was too large (when I buy anything, I prefer that the SA, DH, and I come to a consensus).

She then offered a few other bags (read them off her iPhone): B25 in vert fizz; B25 in orange; B25 in Gris Meyer. Even though I prefer neutrals, I knew to reject the Gris Meyer bc I had rejected a Gris Meyer in a padded K25 from my home store as being too pale a color (I prefer charcoal gray). She also was apologetic that I didn’t find anything, but she said there was not much there (for me, at least, and I did not take it personally).

I make appointments twice a year, so hopefully the original SA or substitute will be there in the fall. I didn’t bother with RTW bc I decided I’d rather see chanel.

ETA: I like to wear an item of Hermes clothing that I bought on a previous visit; in this case, my sports jacket. But, it is absolutely not necessary, and it makes no difference as to my offers. I also never touch a bag unless I know I will buy it (in this case, I take my bracelets off and carefully slide my hand through. I think SAs really appreciate this. I also don’t expect to get a bag in my appt, and that also takes the pressure off from everyone.

* fashion inspirations include really fabulous bag pics, and I make it clear that I do not have expectations; this is simply to show what I admire. The last pic is the bag that I would really love, and no SA at my home Maison or FSH has ever seen it in IRL

I forgot the SAs name, so I simply wrote a note to my sub SA and asked her to pass my thanks along. (Even if I didn’t get anything, I took up quite a bit of her time).

Note: while I have a history at FSH, it is relatively small. Only a few pieces of RTW (twice a year). In my first appt, I was offered my K25 bleu orage without any history. And, every SA I’ve had since has assured me that since they are not on commission, if I don’t find something that I adore, I don’t need to buy anything.

In fact, my SA has also strongly advised me not to buy two items that I still long for bc they could not be adequately altered. Some TPFers clearly have other experiences, so I don’t believe there is a general rule.

I also believe that these offers were the best that the SA had for me. There is always next time

Thank you for the reply and love your attitude when it comes to your appointments! Can I also ask if there is a maximum number of appointments per year for Paris? Of course only 2 qb’s per year but my SA mentioned 4-5 non qbs can also be offered per year. I’m also aware the appointments must be spaced out a month or so but just wondering if there is a maximum number?

In reply to your experience- it sounded lovely! But I hope next time the SA will bring you something you absolutely love! Even though you had amazing offers I commend you for rejecting the ones which were not perfect for you.
Also must say your skirt is STUNNING!!
Good luck for your future appointments 😊

Thanks for the compliments :hugs:. The skirt is one of my favorite recent buys (Sacai, Dover Street Market, como Dempsey, Singapore)

My substitute FSH SA told me she has clients who fly in having booked monthly appts. This was in response to my query regarding whether twice yearly was sufficient for her to add me to her regular schedule. I was not asking about bags in particular.

Regarding QB and other limits, I believe you are correct in quoting official policy per single maison or flagship. Whether one is offered more within one store annually or more cumulatively among several locations seems to vary considerably. IMO , if an SA wants to offer more, and her SM agrees, a way will be found.

how funny, I was also there today too. though I'm not as lucky...ever since my leather sa moved to hq job, I have been left without a permanent sa to look after me even though I consider paris my home store. I def agree though...there is always next time when something more suitable will come your way. enjoy the rest of your trip in Paris!

As I prepare for my Paris trip, how far back in this thread should I look? It's over 2500 pages long and while I'm sure I could read all of it, I'm also pretty confident that advice before x year no longer applies.
@Midge Maisel , when I’m looking for an answer I plug in search keywords; specify the Paris thread (or other); and, I type in @acrowcountedThat seriously narrows the answers down considerably

My experience at FSH before and after Covid19 is quite different...perhaps start reading from 2023 onwards will be more relevant. All the best. Enjoy your non-bag shopping at FSH (as they have more stock) and the rest of Paris too

It can and does happen (it happened to me in September last year). However, I think most would agree that this is rare and that you should manage your expectations accordingly. My thinking is that you can always ask politely and hope for the best. Good luck!!
