Hi Ladies,
Returning home from Paris, and had some time for updates while on my flight back (toddler is now sleeping). Here’s my journey in detail. I want to say anytime I read the stories here, I feel inspired but equally sympathize and appreciate the realness and feelings of disappointment.
My husband, son and I arrived in Paris on a Monday. We had been already playing the lottery since the prior Saturday with all three passports, every day 10:30 on the dot. Our total stay was four days, for non of which we got an appointment. We never even received a rejection email. During our stay, we did the usual and store hopped from FSH to George V. Sevres was out of the way for us, and I only walked in once. It was beautiful to see but so large, the leather desk associate was pretty indifferent to me so I didn’t bother returning there. In total, we visited FSH 2x a day mid morning and afternoon in between our sight seeing activities! The store was incredibly busy. We got told no so many times but after two days, you start to recognize faces, and I think they remembered us since we came with my son in stroller.
Even though we got rejected on all our days, we always addressed the leather desk associates in french with a “bonjour madame or monseur”. After they told us no, we asked if there was a better time to come back. One of the ladies was so nice and told us there’s basically no point to come in the morning, since that’s when they try to get everybody in with appointments before their flights. She said between 2-3pm was the best time, since people would cancel appointments if they had to fly out. One of the days, we tried late in the afternoon around 5, 5:30 but you could tell they were finishing for the day and would not take anyone in. So - sweet spot at FSH was 2-3pm.
On our last day, my husband son and I went one final time to FSH straight to the leather desk. Again, we were told no, but we both began explaining how we are leaving Paris, have been trying all week, it’s our anniversary (10 years) and that we’ve been unsuccessful with the lottery. I told him I really wanted to leave with something special and get my dream bag. He asked me which one and I said Birkin 30/35. He asked me to put my name in his phone so he can look up my purchase history in Paris ( i had none). I explained I have a purchase history in US (started my H journey last year -belt, scarves, and a couple mens ties). Also want to say I have a great relationship with my local Hermes SA, and even reached out to her for appointment help, however she told me they’re not able to.
Back at FSH, we hovered around the leather desk, and overheard the lady in front explaining how her friend has an appointment but is running late. That same lady, also asked if “she can make a purchase for her friend, with a picture of her passport”. The leather desk associate likely caught on and realized her friend is never coming, and that this lady had friends playing the lottery for her while she’s in Paris. She went to the side, and that’s when he asked me once again to put my details in his phone and went to speak with another associate or manager at this point, who recognized us from our previous days. They chatted and afterwards he came up to us and said the magic words “follow me”. We took the elevator to the last floor (with stroller still) and he had us wait in a really nice area, it looked like jewelry and something else. The SA came to me and asked me for preference and i told him Birkin 30, but am willing to get 35, in brown, black, neutrals or a pink/red pop of color. I was not picky on the leather but asked the hardware to be gold. He left, and after some time came back with a big box. He said “this isn’t the color you asked for”, at which point I got worried, and said they had run out of b30s and this was a 35. He opened the bag, and it was a gorgeous b35 gold hardware tourillion clemence leather in nata color. I was in love, I was really worried about accepting a color I didn’t like, but this creamy off white is stunning in person. I am so happy and fortunate to have gotten this appointment but honestly IMO it comes down to shear luck, if you are there at the right time when someone else is running late for their appointments. I won’t even go in details about outfits, because although we were dressed nicely, it wasn’t anything too fancy. I also don’t travel with my engagement ring or any jewelry, only a love bracelet, so again, nothing flashy.

In summary, I still can’t believe this all happened and didn’t fully live in the moment bc I didn’t want to get my hopes up. On the even brighter side, for four days, we explored the Louvre, Eiffel Tower, Notre Dame, Versailles, and ate at Relais de l’ Entrecôte. Bought a cheap check in luggage for my box, though I’m not sure if I should bring it to the states.

Now I would love your opinions on twillies and care tips for this beauty

Congratulations! I also think it helped you that you were open to a B35. It seems to me that both the B and K 35s don't have as much demand and so they are more accommodating when walk-ins ask for them. When my DH established the relationship with our SA as FSH he was a walk-in and requested a K35 for me. I will always keep the bag as it was my first, but I have come to see how it is really quite large and my subsequent bags have all been smaller.

Happy 10th Anniversary! What a lovely story! I am so happy for you! ETA: the 35 is a classic, and larger bags are on the runway

Congrats on your anniversary and b35. I really love this combo! The 35 is only large compared to the trend now. It is a classic. ❤️

Does anyone know if Paris SAs can make appointments with returning / frequent clients? Like what do local clients do if they want to shop (even for non leather stuff). Do they have to walk in like the tourists?
2 possibilities:
- I plan my visit, if I know that I want to see/try many items, or if I want a particular item, then I contact my SA to know the availability, and then we set an appointment (usually approximate, like any given day, in the afternoon, from 4pm)
- I just walk in (most of the time) like I would in any other store and "like the tourists" because well... that's how shopping works! If I'm in a rush, I wait for the first SA available, if not, I ask to see my SA and wait for her until she's done with her current clients.

Yes, agree with @_gelato_
I am not a local, nor do I have high spend.
But, my SA really clicked with my DH who got me the initial appt.

Thanks for the reply!

The reason I ask is because I’ve been shopping with the most wonderful SA in one store for the last few years (I don’t go to all 3 stores anymore), but always just walked in and asked for her. But when I recently messaged her to tell her I’ll be in Paris next month, she set up an appointment. I was confused because I guess I assumed Paris stores are all walk-ins nowadays?

Can you tell me what these appointments are like? Are they assuming we want bags? I never mentioned what I wanted before she set up the appointment, but was going to look at FJ and RTW (and of course hoping for a bag)….

It is probably just a shopping appointment with her. Not a leather bag appointment.

If you've been shopping with this SA for 3 years I'm not sure why this appointment would be different from your other ones apart from this one being set up in advance and the others not?

I set up my appointments with my Paris SA in advance. Easier for both of us so we can effectively plan our days.

Yes if you have a relationship with the SA reach out to them. I met my wonderful SA in 2021 we clicked, I walked in and asked about cancellation. She was kind enough to give me her card and cell number at the end of appointment. I’m going Paris next week reached out to her and asked there was any availability to meet with her. She responded and asked if I would like a leather appointment and offered me a time and date when I’m in town. She told me to just come to the leather desk at the time we set.
I had no spend in Paris before that first meeting in 2021.

Not sure why I’m so anxious but I feel like I’m caught in a bit of dilemma (first world problem, fully aware).. Let me try to articulate as best as I could.

TLDR: Last year, my long-time Paris SA got me a leather appointment, where I met another SA. Clicked with both. The leather SA gave me his info and told me to reach out next time. Now I don’t know who to shop with when I return to Paris in Oct.

For the last few years, I’ve been exclusively walking in George V and requesting a lovely SA. She’s more junior, but I always have a great time with her, shopping in every category (she also has no problem telling me I look horrible in certain pieces, which we like to laugh about lol). She even put me on her “fave client” list whatever that is? Last year, I asked for a possibility of a QB but she said she’s not trained for leather until another few months, but ended up getting me a leather appointment from her manager.

During that leather appointment, I met another super nice and more senior SA and scored the exact QB I wanted (k25). We were laughing throughout the store about anything and everything. He gave me his email address and told me to contact him next time I visit Paris, and we stayed in touch a couple times since.

Here’s the dilemma.. Recently, I WhatsApped SA 1 that I’ll be in Paris in Oct and she set up an appointment (even though I was just going to walk-in). Many months ago before booking flights, I emailed both SAs asking if they’d be around, so SA 2 probably knows I’m coming too.

Did I make the wrong move? My heart tells me I should stay loyal to SA 1 because we click and she’s helped me for years, so I should keep building that relationship. But she’s more junior I’m not sure if she actually completed her leather training like she mentioned last year (didn’t follow up). I also really like SA 2 and on paper he has more “leather power”, and feel it’d be rude to not show up after keeping in touch. Don’t wait to lose that connection either.

At my appointment with SA 1, would it be weird or awkward to still say hi to SA 2 even if I’m not shopping with him? Or is it even weirder if I shop with each of them on different days? Is it unrealistic to maintain both connections?

At the end of the day, I want to buy a bunch of stuff not found in my home country, maintain relationship with my SAs because they’re awesome, and obviously get QBs.

What would you do? Anyone have experience having multiple SA relationships from the same store?
