Non French peoples can pay up to 10000€ in cash. Tell you friend to be ready to get « strange face from her SA ». I pay my purchase in cash and I had limit to justify myself.. I lived in France and already back then peoples then to use card even for super small amount.
And the end no problem because it’s the law.

I have a friend heading to Paris soon, anybody know what’s Fauborg’s stores policy about paying in cash? Is there a dollar amount limit?

There's a legal limit to how much you can pay in cash in France as a consumer. I think it's 1000 euro for residents and 15 000 euros non-residents. If Hermès lets you pay in dollars in cash, the amount would depend on the exchange rate they use.

I forgot to add something from 10000€ you must be able to justify.
In a shop they would ask you question but guess you have a policy control, custom cops don’t know the proper English name.
I don’t know how but maybe with your bank account, work.. Never add any issue but I never carry that kind of amount flying.
Telling it’s money from my parents/boyfriend doesn’t work
Not able to justify they take it.

Yes you have to verify the provenance of the funds because of money laundering laws, and you will also have to declare amounts of 10000€ or more on your customs form when entering the EU.

yeah, she injured herself at work. so she cannot carry heavy boxes for a long while. and yes, i had to make online appointments despite being a local and loyal client of a decade (so loyal that we bought furniture lol). it's crazy how i get invited to their jumping shows and other private VIP events BUT had to make an appointment to see a bag, be it is a kelly or a garden party.

and with the two other stores, you gotta line up and make appointments first thing in the morning. i have no record with them as i buy exclusively in FSH (and sometimes if i am too ill, online), so the treatment isn't superb elsewhere.

my husband who is french has had some very rude treatment in the store. it made him very angry and he sent an email to the manager which they apologized but could not do anything about it since they want everyone to have a fair game in getting the bag.

i guess it also depends on your SA. My SA errs on the cautious side and therefore does not take personal appointments anymore. she also doesn't want to deal with new clients even though friends have pestered me to introduce them to her.

i've also been told by some friends that they bribe the VIP relations (which i will not name and this person is not a SA or manager of sorts) to get bags without buying stuff or having to go through the appointment system.

the flaw with the appointment system is that it keeps the loyal, local customers isolated, and jumbled into together with new customers as well as resellers. it used to be not like this and a lot better. my french neighbour is annoyed with this system too. she said it is so off putting to feel like a third rate customer despite spending hundreds of thousands of euros over the years. she has been a customer for twenty years, a lot longer than me.

there are french resellers who pay people 500-1000 euros (depending on bag) to get B an K. so they have an incentive to spend their time on the appointment system. i knew a friend who did this. she got the appointment but did not get anything. as soon as you do not have a buying record and act very suspicious, they won't give you peanuts. so my advice is don't act suspicious and try to dress fancier than usual ( i know it is ridiculous but this works).

sorry for my uber long rant but i live here and i hear a lot of things and are friends who people who are part of the action. it's very disappointing for me actually. and these days it feels a lot harder to get an appointment. and trust me, whether you buy or do not buy, it has nothing to do with your chances of getting the appointment. it's all very random. because if it is based on your buying record, i would be able to get an appointment and not be rejected like four days in a row. lol.

and i just merely want to see the garden party bag. one of the few bags i do not have in my inventory. thank god, i've gotten all the hard to get bags way before this system appears.

Hi Micheniche
I think you should try another local store. I am French and Parisian starting with H and got a bag with my SA at Sevres that I knew only since few months. No need to take an appointment online.
I have never had any problems with them and even if I’m not a big client I can reserve and buy what I want...

Thing is because more people are applying for the appt system at FSH and are being turned down, in desperation for a bag they are turning to the other stores. My Parisian friend told me the other day long queues outside Sevres have started to form before it opens for those that hope of getting a walk up appt on the day. I’d expect it’s the same at GV.

Yes, for tourist who come only for a bag.
I might be wrong but I though that @micheniche lives in France?
For me this system is understandable as people come in France to score a bag cheaper, and everybody knows this game and accept that so...

Oh that's really nice. I never have much luck at Sevres. I've been there once just to get a porte monnaie. And another time for a tie. And the longer i stay there, the more I feel like I could murder someone already.

Yes... So I rather stick with FSH. I live on the right bank. Makes little sense for me to go to Sevres. I live very near to the G5 store but I wouldn't go there unless I have no choice. Not that I have a choice now with their new appointment system.

Yes. I live in Paris! My SA (the one who injured herself) watched me grow up from a teenager who speaks zero French to a married woman who speaks French (my husband is Austrian-French).

The system is understandable for me too. Like back then, the store is a real market! You have lots of people just waiting and waiting. But because I'm put into the system with others, it means that chances of me just coming into the store to browse something has drastically reduced.

Not only for tourists, even the locals... this is what my Parisian friend told me and it makes it an inconvenient shopping experience that is why @micheniche made her post to voice her frustration with the matter.
