Very sensible it sometimes takes a little scare to be extra cautous, glad you were not alone. I sometimes wonder when I see tourists who might not be aware of risks they may be taking like the Asian lady I witnessed in Selfridges a couple weeks ago paying for a croc B25 in cash, I don't think I'd seen so much money at once and it actually made me feel uncomfortable. All I could think about was what if she had gotten mugged! Anyway back to topic!
Wow. I am surprised that was possible. Lots of companies do not accept such large transactions in cash in view of the possibility of money laundering

I couldn’t believe it either: I was waiting to pay for my items and saw the SA show her the Birkin and the next thing she nods and starts producing bundles of cash in 20s and 50s, they had to get security and another SA to help count the cash. I think they were just as surprised as I was!

I’m going to assume she was a tourist. Customers from some countries only have the option to pay in cash as the bank cards from their home countries may be unavailable for use abroad, have low spend limits or network issues that cause the cards to decline frequently (can be terribly embarrassing). Stores like selfridges and harrods will always collect cash as they deal with citizens of these countries frequently

Yes she was but the point I was making in reference to the other posters was that carrying around £20k+ in cash is very unsafe/risky and in the current climate in London people who ‘look rich’ (and she was head to toe in high end brands) are often targets for muggings.

Yes, I get that. Definitely didn’t mean to negate what you said. It’s definitely unsafe and dangerous. Was just trying to explain why some would only have the option to carry/pay cash. For her sake, maybe she got in a cab right in front of her hotel and got off in front of the store. I don’t think the bad boys are gutsy enough yet to mug people in front of the crowds on Oxford street. I sure hope not.

I am quite aware of such scenarios being well travelled myself but in this day and age of international banking etc there is no need for a person to put themselves at such risk not to mention the hassle of declaring it all to customs and possibly raising a few eyebrows in the process. The bag she purchased was like around £30k who knows what else she was buying from other stores. And for the record yes bad boys are gutsy enough to rob and even stab people in broad daylight in a busy place like Oxford Street, it has been well reported. Anyway once again let’s get back on topic Paris for Hermes.

After a year of reading this forum and enjoying all the insight I am excited to share my success story! This forum certainly helped me score my dream bag

Was lucky to be in Paris the last weekend in August (Friday-Tuesday). Such a lovely trip, but dreams of scoring my first H bag were in my mind. My fiancé and I both applied online Thursday and Friday for Friday and Saturday appointments but were rejected. It was a little disheartening though I was not too surprised. My fiancé suggested we try our luck at FSH Saturday morning anyways. We arrived at 10:25 am and there was quite a little line up formed. At 10:30 am there was a slight rush inside. Love my home store but FSH is totally out of this world and it was my first visit. Exciting stuff.

We took a little bit of time taking in the store and navigating our way to the leather goods counter. I was trying to contain every ounce of hope and anticipation inside me. We approached the desk and asked if there was a good time to check in about the possibility of any cancellations that day. To my surprise, we were told to check back in 15 minutes. 15 minutes later we checked back in and were told to take a seat as our SA would be with us shortly. At this point I was definitely dying inside and shocked by the good turn of events. After about 5 minutes, we were greeted by two of the nicest SA’s I could have ever asked for. They were both eager to share history of the store and brought us upstairs to sit down. We discussed my preferences…Kelly or Birkin, 28/32, 30/35, preferably gold hardware, togo, epsom or swift, and narrowed down my ideal colours. Then we were brought to a private room which I suspected was a good sign. After about 5 minutes they returned with a stunning K32 togo blue nuit GHW. It was an instant yes. We dressed her up with a twilly and I also picked up a more playful strap. I think my fiancé breathed the biggest sigh of relief that morning as the purse hunt was over :P

Wonderful!! Goes to show that it is pretty much down to luck when trying to score a bag in Paris; you were at the right place at the right time! Enjoy in good health

I would like to share my Paris trip in the late summer... As I already have a purchase history in george v store, I emailed my sa 2 weeks before my trip to tell him that I'll be coming to paris. The store was busy as usual and the bag displayed on the shelf was so minimal. As this was my first time visiting the temporary store so maybe they have a very limited space for it.
As many of you know purchase history is very important at george v store and they like to have a long term relationship instead of one time relationship.
While I was waiting for my Sa, I overheard there was this couple who were trying to buy a watch which was around euro 5,000 and looking for a birkin as well. And they were asked if they have any purchase history in hermes paris. And they said they never have any purchase history in paris. Their SA still tried to check the stock and said no stock for b/k/c. And so they said they are not getting the watch.
I mean it can be tiring for SA for being asked for b/k/c everyday and at the end of the day its business for hermes.

As for my own experience I did manage to get what I was looking for. And I was being told that they have many colors on crocodile constance.

Sorry for the long post..

Beautiful. Thank you for sharing your story.

Just finished the appointment with DH At 11:00 , his original time was 11:35. We told the same preferences to the SA, she left for twenty minutes , and I could see her chatting with the cashiers, not sure if she went to check. She came back and said sorry there are no Kelly’s or Birkins. :( I had an appointment the same day as FortheloveofH who scored her bag on Saturday, but was told no Birkins or kelly. Oh well, I well try again tomorrow. The three of us signed up for appointments for tomorrow. Fingers crossed!

You know I noticed that in Paris, at Chanel & Hermes. I was surprised it was allowed, as it’s so easy to be money laundering.
