Congratulations! There’s a whole thread on Barenia in the Hermes forum. A lot of posts are pics of members’ Barenia pieces but there are some posts on their experiences with the leather. The leather will darken with use. You didn’t mention what kind of piece you got but if it’s a bag with handles, if you leave the handles uncovered, the handles will darken much faster than the rest of the bag. Various members have mentioned having their Barenia bags get wet and seeing them dry out without water stains. I have a couple of Barenia Rejane saddle bags, so no handles to cover. I don’t use them very often because I find them a bit heavy but have noticed they’ve barely started to darken after several years. I hope you post pics of your piece. Use it in good health.

Thank you for the tips! I got a Gabrielle BB in Barenia.. so, yes to the handles! ☺️ Do they darker faster because the handles are often handled or because of something else?

I second everything @DoggieBags wrote - she offered a brilliantly succinct synopsis of Barenia. The only other thing I will add is to be ready for and accepting of signs of use. It is virtually unavoidable with Barenia, but in my eyes the “wounds” add to the character. So if you love to keep your bags pristine it is almost impossible with Barenia as it shows virtually every mark and scratch (some say light scratches can be rubbed out but I haven't been able to heal scratches on Barenia as well as I have on lambskin, for example).

I am attaching a screenshot of a current Fashionphile listing for a Mothat Wheel in Barenia so you can get a good sense for the inevitable scratches and marks.

It’s a highly coveted heritage leather and I think it’s truly beautiful. Lucky you! Enjoy ❤️

This wheel is amazing!!❤️

Yep - Barenia can literally show fingerprints so the handles are extra susceptible. But again, that really is part of its beauty.

But onto the fun…..Congratulations on the Barenia Gabrielle!!! How gorgeous! Any chance you might be inclined to upload a photo or two so I can live vicariously?! ❤️❤️❤️

What a gorgeous choice. Congratulations again.

So obsessed with the handbag. I keep on checking it out on the website:

Reminds me so much of the barenia-toile Kelly Sellier from H, which has long been discontinued. And I keep on telling myself, if I don't spend on anything major between now and early December, I can have this for xmas.

Guys, I have a question. Is this a Gabrielle PM?

Moynat posted it on their ig but the canvas-leather Gabrielles on their website are only the BB and Clutch. I’m looking at the proportions of the handle compared to the base (and the craftsperson’s hands) and I suspect it’s a PM but I’m also thinking it might be just the angle.

If it’s a PM then it’s the perfect size for me, and all I have to do is wait until it’s available

It’s the BB size, but keep an eye on the website - they added new colors to both sizes and the clutch recently, maybe there will be a PM version as well?

Hi everyone. I bought a preloved Moynat clutch and I sent it back because the leather felt like epsom and the bag to touch was very hard and structured -- I think it was carat leather? I didn't like the feel of it. What is the leather name I should be looking at if I want a softer feeling, is it taurillon? Thank you.

Yes Taurillion is probably what you are looking for. It’s similar in feel to Hermes Clemence.

I agree with @DoggieBags that Taurillion is probably your best bet. I am guessing you tried the Gabrielle clutch - that whole line is very structured, as is the Rejane. So even though the Rejane is offered in Taurillion leather, I would suggest looking at their less structured bags, like the Gaby (also offered in Taurillion). The Gaby really showcases the soft, pliable nature of Taurillion beautifully and might give you the look and feel you’re after. Good luck!
