Scarves MYH's Scarf Showcase - and philosophical ramblings about how I built my collection

So while I had some time, I thought I would continue with showcasing the scarves in my collection. Today I thought I would discuss a special category of scarves. Now I might be a fool to discuss this but oh well! C'est La Vie! It's scarves that you love, but are not on anybody else's radar! These are the best scarves! They don't cost a fortune and it's easy to bid for them on evilbay.

So I have one of these scarves. Well maybe several of these scarves. The first is astrologie nouvelle but I think I've covered this scarf in great detail already. I love this design. The subject matter is just meh...to me but the scarf ties like a dream and I love the 3 cws I have. The second is a design that is rarely discussed. In fact, I don't think any other tPFers even own it. If you do, please come out of the woodwork and let yourself be known! Because I would like to bond with you over this scarf! I love it for the mosaics around the border. I love it for the giant tree in the middle. And everytime I look at it, I feel a sense of peace. Isn't it crazy that H scarves can put us in certain moods? Kind of like music? I'm not really a nature gal so it's quite an unusual choice for me but something about this scarf just appeals to me. And everytime I'm scrolling through evilbay, I stop dead in my tracks if I see this design and contemplate if I need another cw.

OK, enough of the suspense. It's Sous Le Cedre. I don't talk or display this scarf much because I don't think many others like it. It's kind of my own little secret. Now I will find it hilarious if you all start telling me it's your own little secret too.

The two cws I have are completely opposite of each other. The first has beautiful orangey-reds and yellows and greens in it. I love a orangey-red and find my capucine illusion bracelet matches it perfectly. I use this one in the evenings with black pants and now my KC.

The other cw is a daytime neutral cw. It matches my gold kelly and my Gris T kelly and a tan sweater I own 2 of. I'm a sucker for neutral scarves and this cw fits the bill perfectly.

And on both scarves, the tree. Oh the tree is so glorious! Sometimes I'll tie the scarf so part of the tree shows, and sometimes, I'll just go with the mosaics around the border.

Here you go...some photos of my Sous Le Cedre scarves.

First, thanks for the birthday wishes everyone! It was a milestone one and I let DH off the hook for an H b-day present because we threw a big party at our house and in the past 6 months, I have indulged in 2 picotins, a kelly, and a kelly cut. So asking for another bag would really have been just a bit greedy. So I don't have a new bag or H item to show everyone but I did snag a little something for myself on eBay. I'll show everyone at the end of this post.

So I was pondering which scarf to feature next. I'm running through the data banks in my head and thinking of which would be nice to show next and I thought to myself, how come I can remember exactly where I bought each scarf and the story around purchasing it but I can't even remember what I had for lunch yesterday? :confused1:

So first I was going to show my first ever CSGM (if I have time today I'll do that as well) but the decision was made for me because we went out to dinner last night and I wore my Collections Imperiale for the first time. So I thought I could show everyone this scarf knotted. I think I mentioned it at the end of my Paris trip posts but didn't really show it tied.

As some of you may remember, I picked up this beauty on the way back from Paris in duty free. I wasn't planning on buying any more scarves but the duty free prices were just too :amazed: This design was on my radar ever since it first came out. I saw so many beautiful reveals on the scarf threads of it as a 90cm and a CSGM. So I filed it away in my memory banks and thought if I ever came across one that called my name, I would take it home. At duty free, I only saw one cw in the scarf case so was disappointed because it wasn't for me. But then I asked the SA if they had any more, and they said, yes! of course. And brought out a bunch from the drawer. So a lesson in duty free, just because you don't see it in the case doesn't mean it's not in the drawer. At my local boutique and at the H boutiques in Paris, they tend to make sure one of each color they have in inventory is sitting in the display case. Not so at duty free! Make sure to ask to peek inside the drawers.

I wanted to get a cw I didn't already have in my collection but TBH, I can't remember my entire collection anymore. :roflmfao: So I just chose one that appealed to me. At first, I was worried about the turquoise in this scarf - I love looking at turquoise but I don't really love it on me. I've tried the turquoise VCA 10 motif necklace on numerous times, but each time, me and DH both have concluded the color just doesn't look good on me. Saving money!

But I decided to go for it because I really liked all the colors in it and I knew it would work well with my wardrobe. Now, if you like starch poufy scarves, this one is for you. It is the stiffest, pouffiest scarf I have ever come across. It's like it's double-ply or something. I think I'm going to have to dunk it in some water and give it a quick wash. I personally don't like stiff scarves. I like drapey.

So in playing around with some mod pics, I have invented a new knot! :yahoo: So everyone knows the asymmetrical cowboy knot right? Fold the scarf in half, pick up opposite corners, fling around your neck, and tie a knot with small tails or big tails if that's what you like. So I decided to try this with a scarf folded in thirds. And I like it! It keeps the neck a bit warmer and shows the middle area of your scarf. Here's a quick pic of it in thirds on the floor and me having picked up the opposite corners.

Here it is tied.

I've also showed it with my favorite purple silk shirt tied as a necklace knot and a cowboy knot. Now, I actually don't like the cowboy knot that much for this scarf because I'm not a fan of the skinny yellow border showing. It's not that I mind the yellow, it's that if you don't scrunch your cowboy knot just right, the yellow lined border ends up looking crooked and I think the OCD in me is coming out. I don't like crooked lines. Yes, I did color within the lines as a child. I think I even traced the line and then colored within it. Yes, I know. I'm type A.

Here are the photos! Sorry I just noticed my first photo is a bit blurry. I must have shaky hands today.

And I found this bracelet as a little treat to myself on eBay. It was a great price so I snagged it. An illusion blue atoll/colvert to add to my collection. Now I have 3. I hope H makes more color combos in the seasons to come. CDCs don't work on me but these illusions are my answer to not having CDCs.

So in addition to my new scarf knot in my previous post, I thought I would share a little present I received from a dear friend for my birthday. The Hermes Scarf book by Nadine Coleno. I was so touched she got this for me knowing how much I love my H scarves. It's so very pretty and gives the history of the scarf and some of the designs. But would you believe, out of all the scarves I have, I don't own a single scarf with the same CW featured in this book? I have some same designs but different cws. I guess that means I need to collect more scarves.

I took some pretty pictures for you guys to look at.

Also, I saw some really cool ideas for scarves I wish H would make. I really love this Plumes within the Mineraux scarf. Isn't that cool? I would buy that in a heartbeat. A scarf within a scarf. It's like a twofer! And I also love this Eperon D'Or design where there is a different cw in each triangle. That would be a fun way to spice up an old design too!

I also saw the cocottes design in the book. It made me sad because I really want this design! The blue cw. Now let's see if it magically appears on evilbay now. :lolots:

First of all, happy belated birthday!
Secondly, I LOVE both of your Sous Le Cedres. I'm a huge Dimitri R fan in general but this is one of his less-popular designs...for whatever reason unknown to me since it is gorgeous! I was in Ravenna, Italy last week and if you love mosaics, you MUST visit the churches there...AMAZING!
Third, great score on your new bracelet; it is beautiful!...you may have to guard it around PbP though since it has Colvert! wink wink. :p

Wonderful post MYH...I had to try out your new knot with my new Les Ailes that I got when our dear pirula enabled me at the DC boutique this past weekend lol!! I posted on SOTD, but wanted to show your knot in action, not sure if I did ok with it! Plus, my bank account does NOT thank you for introducing another bracelet format that would work for me. I too have a bit of difficulty with the heft of the CDC, but the Illusion bracelet looks perfect, and reversible....argh!!!!

Not to hijack MYH's thread, but this looks great on you Bova!

Hi Mrs.Wasik - full disclosure...that photo is not of me but I know how she tied her scarf top. Just fold your scarf in a triangle (if you want a bigger top, don't fold an exact triangle. Have one corner overhang the other corner by several inches) and tie a knot around the back. Bring the scarf up to your body so the point is pointing down. The reason she is wearing a cardigan is because her back is totally exposed. Hope that helps!

Thank you! That helps a lot! [emoji4]

A quick tip on scarf tops. I always use a cami or the old tube tops underneath. They are perfect to avoid scarf slippage. HTH.

And Happy Belated Birthday dear M!

Nice post MYH..lots of great insights.

I also like drapery..yup..went through this phase where I wanted to keep the crispness of the scarves, sought out all types of sizing to try to replicate the store fresh feel...and now after all that (and many bottles of starch and sizing) :laugh:conclude that I like drapery and soft.

I don't have a single H bracelet. After hanging out in the stacking bracelets thread, I thought that it might be time. Would you model your new illusion pieces? Perhaps you'd do a post on your bracelet collection..insights, why you like them, how you pick the models etc. please? I'm clueless. I'm reluctant to try at store and then not buy..too much pressure because I try to be disciplined and not buy on impulse.

I will try your new asymmetrical trifold.

Finally, what is that scarf at the end; With the cartoons? Under your new bracelets?

Long winded today...sheesh.. Love your thread:hugs: by the way, you look great in plum!

The scarf is la Madison des cares. It is based on the h.com scarf web site. It came out SS2015 I think.

Bracelets- I will be curious to hear what MYH has to say.
For myself, I only have enamel bracelets. Both the clic H and the enamel printed bangles.

OK first, sorry for costing you more money by telling you about the illusion bracelet. I think there may need to be a new thread "Support Group for Enabling TPF Members". Conversations can center around TPF's best enablers, suggestions for H shopping resistance, and commiseration.
But this knot looks fantastic on you! I don't have a name. Tried to think of one and came up with nothing. And dear, congratulations on having a swan-like neck because on me, it sits much closer to the base of my neck.

First of all, happy belated birthday!

Thanks for the bday wishes. I'm also a huge Dimitri fan! And yes, I have been to almost every city in Italy. Even the lesser known ones. DH and I love traveling there. And I agree, the mosaics and clover motifs make me swoon everytime.

And Happy Belated Birthday dear M!
Thanks for wishing me a happy bday and great tip on the tube top or cami. A wardrobe malfunction would be so embarrassing!

Holy Hermes. I am loving this thread. I do so love scarves.
Awww...so sweet of you to say.

The scarf at the end is La Maison des Carres. I like the whole cartoon depiction of the scarf process. It was too cute for me to resist. And your idea of a bracelet post...genius! I would love to do that. I will work on it tomorrow.

On it Scarf1. I will work on it tmrw. But I want to warn everyone, the printed enamels don't work for me nor do the CDCs.

Also, just noticed that there is a sous les cedres CSGM on eBay right now.
Yes, I saw that too. Have been resisting...

The red CSGM?
I also liked Sous les cedres since I became interested in H, but am afraid that prices will climb now...
Honeylocks - your comment made me sad. I hope I do not influence prices and that they stay put. I'm starting to feel like I shouldn't do these scarf reviews anymore.

Nooo, please keep doing scarf reviews. I love it. Maitai has the same effect on grail scarves, but did we ask her to stop her blog? Nooo, because we love what she's doing with H scarves. :smile1: So please keep them coming :smile1:
