Scarves MYH's Scarf Showcase - and philosophical ramblings about how I built my collection

First, thanks for the birthday wishes everyone! It was a milestone one and I let DH off the hook for an H b-day present because we threw a big party at our house and in the past 6 months, I have indulged in 2 picotins, a kelly, and a kelly cut. So asking for another bag would really have been just a bit greedy. So I don't have a new bag or H item to show everyone but I did snag a little something for myself on eBay. I'll show everyone at the end of this post.

So I was pondering which scarf to feature next. I'm running through the data banks in my head and thinking of which would be nice to show next and I thought to myself, how come I can remember exactly where I bought each scarf and the story around purchasing it but I can't even remember what I had for lunch yesterday? :confused1:

So first I was going to show my first ever CSGM (if I have time today I'll do that as well) but the decision was made for me because we went out to dinner last night and I wore my Collections Imperiale for the first time. So I thought I could show everyone this scarf knotted. I think I mentioned it at the end of my Paris trip posts but didn't really show it tied.

As some of you may remember, I picked up this beauty on the way back from Paris in duty free. I wasn't planning on buying any more scarves but the duty free prices were just too :amazed: This design was on my radar ever since it first came out. I saw so many beautiful reveals on the scarf threads of it as a 90cm and a CSGM. So I filed it away in my memory banks and thought if I ever came across one that called my name, I would take it home. At duty free, I only saw one cw in the scarf case so was disappointed because it wasn't for me. But then I asked the SA if they had any more, and they said, yes! of course. And brought out a bunch from the drawer. So a lesson in duty free, just because you don't see it in the case doesn't mean it's not in the drawer. At my local boutique and at the H boutiques in Paris, they tend to make sure one of each color they have in inventory is sitting in the display case. Not so at duty free! Make sure to ask to peek inside the drawers.

I wanted to get a cw I didn't already have in my collection but TBH, I can't remember my entire collection anymore. :roflmfao: So I just chose one that appealed to me. At first, I was worried about the turquoise in this scarf - I love looking at turquoise but I don't really love it on me. I've tried the turquoise VCA 10 motif necklace on numerous times, but each time, me and DH both have concluded the color just doesn't look good on me. Saving money!

But I decided to go for it because I really liked all the colors in it and I knew it would work well with my wardrobe. Now, if you like starch poufy scarves, this one is for you. It is the stiffest, pouffiest scarf I have ever come across. It's like it's double-ply or something. I think I'm going to have to dunk it in some water and give it a quick wash. I personally don't like stiff scarves. I like drapey.

So in playing around with some mod pics, I have invented a new knot! :yahoo: So everyone knows the asymmetrical cowboy knot right? Fold the scarf in half, pick up opposite corners, fling around your neck, and tie a knot with small tails or big tails if that's what you like. So I decided to try this with a scarf folded in thirds. And I like it! It keeps the neck a bit warmer and shows the middle area of your scarf. Here's a quick pic of it in thirds on the floor and me having picked up the opposite corners.

Here it is tied.

I've also showed it with my favorite purple silk shirt tied as a necklace knot and a cowboy knot. Now, I actually don't like the cowboy knot that much for this scarf because I'm not a fan of the skinny yellow border showing. It's not that I mind the yellow, it's that if you don't scrunch your cowboy knot just right, the yellow lined border ends up looking crooked and I think the OCD in me is coming out. I don't like crooked lines. Yes, I did color within the lines as a child. I think I even traced the line and then colored within it. Yes, I know. I'm type A.

Here are the photos! Sorry I just noticed my first photo is a bit blurry. I must have shaky hands today.

And I found this bracelet as a little treat to myself on eBay. It was a great price so I snagged it. An illusion blue atoll/colvert to add to my collection. Now I have 3. I hope H makes more color combos in the seasons to come. CDCs don't work on me but these illusions are my answer to not having CDCs.

This looks so beautiful on you. Perfect colors. And I love the new knot. I must try it.

Ack, I have dibs on the cocottes!! I saw that this year for the first time and just about died! I've only seen a couple on evilbay and they do command a premium - sigh.

I love the Eperon D'Or design in that triangle pattern, wish they would come out with one like that. Somehow it speaks to me more than the ones that are just two halves put together (does that make sense?).

Yes, the purple one comes up from time to time. But at a steep premium. I've almost given up on cocottes.

It's becoming my Monday routine to check out your amazing post!
So nice of you to say. Thank you!

Thanks dear. The new knot is kinda cool. Give it a try and post photos please!

Thank you for this. This Color looks beautiful on you. I also have 2 CW of Collections Imperiale and would try it with your newly invented knot.

I have met many people with a secret CI in their collection. I think this wa kind of a sleeper hit. Did you get the purple one? And please post photos if you try the new knot!

Your scarf looks beautiful on you! And i never did give the illusion bracelet a second look... is that reversible as well?
Thank you! Yes, the illusion bracelet is reversible! And if you buy one silver hardware and one gold hardware, you can easily switch your bracelet straps between the two hardware colors. I find this very versatile.

Wow that's great news! Will look for that bracelet next time i'm in the boutique. Does it come in exotics as well? I really really loved the kelly dog but it only comes in one size and it's too snug on me. Sorry to be off topic!!! Back to scarves... i haven't seen CI in person yet, such an H newbie i know 😯 i am thinking of getting my first CSGM in something similar to that 😄😄😄 so sorry for being such a big scarf groupie 😶

So in addition to my new scarf knot in my previous post, I thought I would share a little present I received from a dear friend for my birthday. The Hermes Scarf book by Nadine Coleno. I was so touched she got this for me knowing how much I love my H scarves. It's so very pretty and gives the history of the scarf and some of the designs. But would you believe, out of all the scarves I have, I don't own a single scarf with the same CW featured in this book? I have some same designs but different cws. I guess that means I need to collect more scarves.

I took some pretty pictures for you guys to look at.

Also, I saw some really cool ideas for scarves I wish H would make. I really love this Plumes within the Mineraux scarf. Isn't that cool? I would buy that in a heartbeat. A scarf within a scarf. It's like a twofer! And I also love this Eperon D'Or design where there is a different cw in each triangle. That would be a fun way to spice up an old design too!

I also saw the cocottes design in the book. It made me sad because I really want this design! The blue cw. Now let's see if it magically appears on evilbay now. :lolots:

I love these photos of the book images and the real thing. Great compositions; very clever!

Thanks darling.

I have the fuschia, black and the orange, green. I tend to gravitate towards strong colours. Although I'm regretting getting the orange green one as I find it quite hard to match with my wardrobe. Newbie here so I'm still untrained in the art of picking scarves [emoji6] I will definitely post photos if I try your new knot!

Beautiful CI, by the way! Definitely seems like your colors.

I bought that book last year. I was disappointed that I did not have a single scarf in the book. Ok it was originally printed in 2009, and I started collecting 3 years ago. Now I actually have one scarf design that is in the book- paddock- although mine is from FW2015 re-issue.

Dear MYH, if you have time can you please tell me how you knotted this? View attachment 3364235

I'm trying out scarves as tops and this looks like something I would love to try.
Hi Mrs.Wasik - full disclosure...that photo is not of me but I know how she tied her scarf top. Just fold your scarf in a triangle (if you want a bigger top, don't fold an exact triangle. Have one corner overhang the other corner by several inches) and tie a knot around the back. Bring the scarf up to your body so the point is pointing down. The reason she is wearing a cardigan is because her back is totally exposed. Hope that helps!

You and me both! But I started collecting around 2012 so it makes sense. I did see one little photo of the black/brown monsieur et madame but it wasn't a full spread. So I guess that kind of counts. Yay for having a paddock!

Wonderful post MYH...I had to try out your new knot with my new Les Ailes that I got when our dear pirula enabled me at the DC boutique this past weekend lol!! I posted on SOTD, but wanted to show your knot in action, not sure if I did ok with it! Plus, my bank account does NOT thank you for introducing another bracelet format that would work for me. I too have a bit of difficulty with the heft of the CDC, but the Illusion bracelet looks perfect, and reversible....argh!!!!

This looks great, Bova! It really brings out all the colors of this particular design. You have inspired me to try it on mine!
