Scarves MYH's Scarf Showcase - and philosophical ramblings about how I built my collection

Nooo, please keep doing scarf reviews. I love it. Maitai has the same effect on grail scarves, but did we ask her to stop her blog? Nooo, because we love what she's doing with H scarves. :smile1: So please keep them coming :smile1:
I agree! Please don't stop! It is so helpful to hear another Hermes fan discussing her collection and showcasing scarves. I lurk on this thread all the time!

First, thanks for the birthday wishes everyone! It was a milestone one and I let DH off the hook for an H b-day present because we threw a big party at our house and in the past 6 months, I have indulged in 2 picotins, a kelly, and a kelly cut. So asking for another bag would really have been just a bit greedy. So I don't have a new bag or H item to show everyone but I did snag a little something for myself on eBay. I'll show everyone at the end of this post.

So I was pondering which scarf to feature next. I'm running through the data banks in my head and thinking of which would be nice to show next and I thought to myself, how come I can remember exactly where I bought each scarf and the story around purchasing it but I can't even remember what I had for lunch yesterday? :confused1:

So first I was going to show my first ever CSGM (if I have time today I'll do that as well) but the decision was made for me because we went out to dinner last night and I wore my Collections Imperiale for the first time. So I thought I could show everyone this scarf knotted. I think I mentioned it at the end of my Paris trip posts but didn't really show it tied.

As some of you may remember, I picked up this beauty on the way back from Paris in duty free. I wasn't planning on buying any more scarves but the duty free prices were just too :amazed: This design was on my radar ever since it first came out. I saw so many beautiful reveals on the scarf threads of it as a 90cm and a CSGM. So I filed it away in my memory banks and thought if I ever came across one that called my name, I would take it home. At duty free, I only saw one cw in the scarf case so was disappointed because it wasn't for me. But then I asked the SA if they had any more, and they said, yes! of course. And brought out a bunch from the drawer. So a lesson in duty free, just because you don't see it in the case doesn't mean it's not in the drawer. At my local boutique and at the H boutiques in Paris, they tend to make sure one of each color they have in inventory is sitting in the display case. Not so at duty free! Make sure to ask to peek inside the drawers.

I wanted to get a cw I didn't already have in my collection but TBH, I can't remember my entire collection anymore. :roflmfao: So I just chose one that appealed to me. At first, I was worried about the turquoise in this scarf - I love looking at turquoise but I don't really love it on me. I've tried the turquoise VCA 10 motif necklace on numerous times, but each time, me and DH both have concluded the color just doesn't look good on me. Saving money!

But I decided to go for it because I really liked all the colors in it and I knew it would work well with my wardrobe. Now, if you like starch poufy scarves, this one is for you. It is the stiffest, pouffiest scarf I have ever come across. It's like it's double-ply or something. I think I'm going to have to dunk it in some water and give it a quick wash. I personally don't like stiff scarves. I like drapey.

So in playing around with some mod pics, I have invented a new knot! :yahoo: So everyone knows the asymmetrical cowboy knot right? Fold the scarf in half, pick up opposite corners, fling around your neck, and tie a knot with small tails or big tails if that's what you like. So I decided to try this with a scarf folded in thirds. And I like it! It keeps the neck a bit warmer and shows the middle area of your scarf. Here's a quick pic of it in thirds on the floor and me having picked up the opposite corners.

Here it is tied.

I've also showed it with my favorite purple silk shirt tied as a necklace knot and a cowboy knot. Now, I actually don't like the cowboy knot that much for this scarf because I'm not a fan of the skinny yellow border showing. It's not that I mind the yellow, it's that if you don't scrunch your cowboy knot just right, the yellow lined border ends up looking crooked and I think the OCD in me is coming out. I don't like crooked lines. Yes, I did color within the lines as a child. I think I even traced the line and then colored within it. Yes, I know. I'm type A.

Here are the photos! Sorry I just noticed my first photo is a bit blurry. I must have shaky hands today.

And I found this bracelet as a little treat to myself on eBay. It was a great price so I snagged it. An illusion blue atoll/colvert to add to my collection. Now I have 3. I hope H makes more color combos in the seasons to come. CDCs don't work on me but these illusions are my answer to not having CDCs.

Oh MY, MYH!!! This CI is gorgeous!!! Way to go on duty free, too!!! I am so happy to learn this new way to tie scarves. This " opposite corner" pick up tie is so pretty!!!
I am not very creative in my tying technique, so this will be fun to try. Hugs to you! I am enjoying your FABULOUS thread! Thank you for sharing![emoji8]

Just tried your new knot with a couple scarves. Love it! Maybe you can come up with a catchy name for this knot? It is very useful and pretty :smile1::smile1:

OK, ok. Maybe I should post some "terrible" scarves and the prices could drop?

Ladybaga! Long time no see. How are you doing? Would love to see you model this "trifold swag".

That's fantastic! I am thinking trifold swag. Not sure if that's catchy though.

Happy Memorial Day everyone! This 3-day weekend totally snuck up on me so DH and I are having a lazy day lounging around the house. A perfect time to catch up on tPF and this thread!

So I was going to do a bracelet showcase post as requested but remembered I might be acquiring some new ones next week so I'm going to hold off until I see what new goodies I adopt. So I'll be back with bracelets at the end of next week ok?

So let's continue with scarves for now. I've been wanting to feature this scarf for awhile now. I think this was "the one" that made me fall of the H cliff so to speak. Up until this scarf, I always thought H scarves mainly had horse designs and were for a more "mature" set. Or that it was a brand for people that lived on estates and had stables. :D Don't get me wrong, I love people that own horses and live on estates with carriage houses. It's just that I don't even own a dog and I live in a regular house. Although I could see the scarf designs were beautiful, I just didn't think the designs worked with my wardrobe.

Until I laid eyes on this beautiful CSGM. Graff. I fell head over heels the moment I saw this one. She unfurled it and held it up so I could take in it's full magnificence. I was smitten. This design and cw was so fun and bold! Purple and orange together! Who knew that could work? Graffiti! I love graffiti art! What's not to love....errr...the price tag. When my SA told me how much it cost, I was like "come again'? Gulp! How could one shawl cost so much? But as we all know...resistance is futile. I could not resist taking it home. And so I did. And that's the story of my first CSGM. I think we all remember our first CSGM right?

This shawl really turned what I thought about the Hermes brand on it's head. I could see that they did have modern designs with bold coloring. And that they had designs for all ages and personal styles. And after that epiphany, I was a total goner at the scarf counter. I went on a scarf binge after that. I think I was buying 1 scarf every week for several months. I had it bad. I was like a hungry person that was finally offered a seat at a gourmet buffet and could eat whatever I wanted. But thankfully, I have slowed down alot since that time or else I would be in debtor's prison!

About this shawl. I have loved it since Day 1. You know how sometimes your love waxes and wanes with some scarves? I never experienced it with this one. I have loved it every single day. It has kept me company on airplanes (see photo below), brought my neck comfort when I was sick, shielded me from snow, come along on multiple vacations, and it has the pills and snags to show for it. But I don't really care. It's mine and I think it gives the shawl character. Every once in awhile, I do run a laundress cashmere brush over it. I had read not to shave off the pills and that brushing the lint and pills was better. I don't know if it's true or not but that's the method I have adopted.

I have multiple bags that coordinate with this shawl. Yes, I bought an orange Pico just to match it. The tosca evelyne turned out to be a coincidence and now I have a black kelly cut to go with it too. If only I can find an anemone bag...

So here are some lovely photos for you to enjoy.

Yay! This one is every bit as beautiful in person. I can see why you had to buy a bag to match it. So fun. And look at all of your other goodies to go with it. [emoji7]

Gorgeous! Graff is on my grail list as well.m and your cw is my favorite! One day...

I had the same experience as you in my attitude towards scarves - in my early twenties I thought scarves were for grannies! I even remember seeing Sangles and thinking how ugly/weird it looked. Now I'd be happy to have one in my collection, haha. However, I do tend to gravitate towards modern designs. I fell in love with H scarves fairly recently so my Graff is actually Zebra Pegasus. The emerald 90 was a treat to myself for a hard-won promotion and I later tracked down a breathtaking CSGM in red. I won't ever tire of that beauty!

Thanks for sharing so many wonderful scarf stories. They're such a pleasure to read. My eye has been turning to all the stunning bracelet options that H offers, so I'll look forward to seeing your post on all your arm candy!

So while I had time today, I thought I would show one more scarf. Since I'm on a CSGM role, I thought I would showcase the second CSGM I bought. It wasn't soon after I got that Graff scarf, that I acquired this one too. Once you rip that band aid off and you have "accepted" the price, there are just so many to consider. So I remember this clear as day...I walked into the boutique and was convinced I wanted the black Tous Les Bateaux shawl. I thought it would be a perfect neutral that would go with everything. See, even then, I was obsessed with B&W and neutral scarves. I figured, if they were going to cost a pretty penny, I better pick a few that would go with everything in my wardrobe. So I was fixated on getting the design and cw I researched onlinel but when I tried it on, it was too...well black. I have black hair. I wear black clothes. And the background on the shawl was black too. I was drowning in black! It was a slow day at the boutique and several SAs came around to weigh in and I saw frowns all around! Uh oh! So then I spied this Echec au Roi out of the corner of my eye. It was black, grey, red and white. I threw that one on and it was much better! The main background color was whitish creme (much better for my coloring) and it still fulfilled my neutral goal. But it had a bit of red in it...but I decided it wasn't that big of a deal and so this is how I acquired my 2nd CSGM. I know it sounds like I must have many CSGMs in my drawer, but actually, that's not true. I only have 5. The first two I bought in quick succession. Then after that, I slowed way down.

I also learned that day to be open minded when I try on scarves/shawls. I can research my little heart out online and think something will look good on me, only to find out it doesn't work. I actually think that's half the fun of Hermes. Lots of times the boutique won't have the cw or design I want, so sometimes I have to re-adjust and make decisions quickly on another item(s). And here are some photos of my Echec au Roi.

I thought the same as you about Sangles and Patissmenterie. Yes, the ZP was so pretty and I was very good and resisted it. How lovely you have the emerald one. I do love green! Thanks for dropping me and letting me know you are enjoying the thread.

Both are beautiful!
I had over 40 scarves before I bought a CSGM. I have 2 now. But, I am not sure how to pick the right ones. Should the pattern be large scale like ZP? Or small scale like pays de oiseux? Or something in between? Is it better to pick one with just a few colors in them, as yours are. Or more of a riot of colors?
My first CSGM is cavalier du caucus with the black background. All my coats are black, and black is usually a travel to Europe neutral, so this seemed perfect. It has a riot of color, so figured it would go with nearly everything. However, I don't really like the yellow/gold bits in it, so I tend to fold it to minimize that.

I love the look of the echec scarf, but I am such a klutz so wonder about your experience with the light background?

I really love this one. I didn't know that you have it. I have seen it on eBay. I definitely would have bought it if it was rouge h. But reds are tricky for me. And at cashmere prices I don't take chances. [emoji23]

This is one of my very favourites on you, so clever, so chic, so arty (but effortlessly)

I can't buy many CSGMs. Firstly, I find silk 90s very versatile, portable and useful but also I love the sheen that the silk gives to some designs. A design has to actually look equally good or better in the matte CSGMs before it begins to tempt me. They also have to have a grandeur that befits such a large format. Evidently, EaR in this striking cw does and has (on you, it would be too high contrast for me.

The first two I bought in quick succession

Thank you for posting these! I love them and they remind me of a question:

I saw a shawl I love, (Panthera in the gold CW). It looked great, but I didn't buy it (yet) because I am afraid of all the white area in it. I notice your shawls have a lot of white area too. My great fear is I will get it dirty right away and not be able to clean it perfectly. Have you had any difficulty? Looks like you use these beauties in many situations, so I would love to hear how they fare as far as becoming stained or dull looking?
