Scarves MYH's Scarf Showcase - and philosophical ramblings about how I built my collection

Gosh - it's been about a year since I updated this thread. A couple of changes happened to me this year which affected my scarf and bag collection. I added a second "living location" to my life so with this secondary residence, it changed my bag needs somewhat. The second location is very rainy and I realized I need to be hands-free to carry an umbrella and my drink (you know I'm an American so walk around with a drink such as coffee/tea/boba) in my hands.

This required a re-think of my crossbody bags. I think when I left this thread, I had a gold Jypsiere 28, a gris asphalte Constance 18, and a black mini Delvaux tempete. I've now added another Jypsiere 28 (graphite with etoupe interior) and a Roulis 18 in anemone. I "think" I'm done with crossbody bags but I'm not sure. I don't seem to have any self-restraint when a pretty one pops up.

Some people on the other thread expressed interest in adding a jypsiere to their collection so I thought I'd go in to some more detail about it. I like it because:
1) the strap is leather and not too wide or too thin (imo the evelyne strap is too wide and is canvas which I found bothersome)
2) I can take it on long trips and it can be a day bag or an evening bag because it converts out of a crossbody to shoulder or arm carry
3) Can be dressed up or down
4) I bought a short Fendi handle for it and just leave it in the bag so I can make it arm/hand carry very easily
5) Can be worn crossbody (strap is adjustable so works on short or tall ppl), on the shoulder at multiple lengths using the adjustable holes or a twilly
6) Has the capacity of a k28

The one con is that the sangles are kind of fussy to put into the pontets. So my way around that is to just not bother. I don't tuck my flap in which is how I believe I've seen it used. I leave my flap out, and sometimes just close up one sangle (without bothering to put it through the pontet) on the turnlock or let both sangles hang. It's perfectly fine that way.

Also, I added a little anemone roulis 18 in evercolor. I figured out awhile back that I could add a MM chain d'ancre bracelet to the side that's adjustable and extend it to be the perfect crossbody length for me. I asked for a pop roulis 18 in April maybe? I can't remember exactly but it took my SA about 8 months to find me one. I had no idea they were that popular. For those who would love a constance but are having trouble getting one, I think the roulis is a great option. Also, that H buckle won't get all scratched up. The H buckle on my C18 is pretty much a disaster now even though I tried to be careful. I think I'm going to turn it in and ask for it to be completely replaced if they'll do that for me.

Here are some pics of my entire crossbody collection now and let me know if you have any questions about any of my bags. I'm happy to answer them!

Hope everyone is enjoying their time off for the holidays. I can't believe I don't have to work for 2 weeks. It seems too good to be true!

MYH! Welcome back! i am beyond excited to read your posts again. You are such a style inspiration! I love the short handle on your Jypsiere. That is so clever/practical/ chic! Thank you for showing us new ways to wear it. I do not have one but would love to explore the possibilities. What a pleasure it is for me to see your pictures and learn so much from you!c Happy Holidays!!

Thank you so much Ladybaga. I learned so much from you too when I was a newbie and your scarf circus thread. And then followed you on your journey as you collected bags as well. :hugs:

@Ladybaga - it just dawned on my that I was referring to tango tosca’s thread.
Sorry about that. My memory is not what it used to be. :whut:

No worries at all! I am right there with you! I've quoted about a thousand times (or more) and somehow, I messed up in my last post. I clearly need a vacation! Thank you for your kind complements!

Interesting organization , mine are arranged by color , I have a pink box , a purple box and so on , I owe my soul to the container store
Ps this will be an awesome reveal , I did not spy logo scarves - big h , small. Caleche and billions of chaines d ancre , just great designs

@marietouchet
I completely understand your reasoning for not wanting to do a modeling shot of your items. But, could you possibly consider sharing which container/ containers you have found at the container store that works well for your scarf storage needs? I am struggling to find some. I know a lot of people have tried various ones from different departments but when I visited this week, I just couldn’t find anything that would work well. I have 90s, CSGMs and several twillys. I like your idea of dividing them by specific colors. Thank you ever so much!

I did want to ask you this privately in a message so as not to hijack this thread or steer it off topic but unfortunately I couldn’t find the button to do that.

If you’re interested in more scarf organization ideas check out this thread: https://forum.purseblog.com/threads/storing-my-scarves.91006/
There’s so many good ideas there!

I'm so sorry for responding 9 months late!! but better late than never. The Pico 22 I use for casual days out with friends (like lunch and shopping) and light errands. Because it almost acts like a tote, it's easy for me to stick my hand in and out to get my wallet. But maybe it's important to note, I don't attach the lock and thread it through the silver square thingies. I leave the piece of leather that the lock hangs off of just hanging freely on the outside of the bag. Then the bag is really a tote cause theres not leather strip that divides the bag opening which impedes my hand. Does that make sense?

Hi there! thank you so much for responding to my thread and for sharing your love of silks. OK, the best place to find former year designs are duty free shops!! Yes, and you really need to get down and squat and dig through the drawers, especially in the back dark corners. The next best place is H sales. They happen in the US once a year and in France twice a year. Then after that, evilbay. Chester says hello btw - he would love to get kisses from you. Especially since he is a ladies man. - Oh, hello to You and the cutest ladies man Chester! I would love to give him a smooch despite coronavirus situation. Hope you are all well! Your advise is invaluable, as always. And, I've got proof! This past year, I've visited about 20 countries and every time I would check out duty free store, of course. Duty free stores in Paris and JFK are the best! I've purchased the following giants in those two, this past year:
- Acte III, Scene I, La Clairiere 140 cashmere/silk
- Larubizana - Le Bouclier de la Beauté - 140 silk in cw 01
- Parures Précieuses - 140 silk in hot pink - 2002 issue (I believe, but I was not around) and absolutely gorgeous!

Another giant silks treasury location discovered by accident was Canada.I guess it's too cold for the silks in Canada;)
I've got two beautiful 140 silks there:
- Pegase d'Hermes (au block - but not bad at all!) in blue Azur/vert/rose 2018
- Siesta au Paradis - in rose pale/bleu azur/orange F2015

Thank you dear MYH! It's because of YOU and a few other true Hermes Expert Collectors, I've been able to build 18 piece collection with 1/3 of them in 140x140 format, within just a year or so. Sending my love to Chester!

You had me laughing out loud. I used to be a bench scientist too and like any nerd jokes! Yes, tell him ban island has experienced climate change and thus we need to adapt. The old rules no longer apply. Scarf accumulation is essential for survival as a barrier of protection from the sun. Cooking his favorite dinners is also a tactic I employ too!! We are so similar lol.

Hi there! Yeah it's me again. I'm sure you all hate me by now for my spotty upkeep on this thread but I usually feel like writing a novel about whatever is swirling in my head and can't always find the time to do so. I need a good chunk of time to really properly bore you with all the details!

All right - so I've gotten a few requests to talk about my bag collection and how I edit and choose what to purchase. My bag collection has changed alot from when I started . I learned some lessons, made some mistakes, and if you would like to learn from them, I'm happy to share them with you.

As many of you will recall, I made some bold declaration many many moons ago that I could not stomach the price of H bags. Well, let's just say I have eaten my words.

Fast forward to today and I have "a few" bags now and decided they are worth the price because I will use them for years to come instead of tossing them out after a few years which I used to do with my other non-H bags. This is how I rationalized buying H bags to myself. :giggle:

In the past, I used to fall in love with a bag and buy it on impulse, bring it home, use it, and then figure out why it did not suit my purposes. Now, I have figured out I need to consider the types of activities I do first and then find a bag(s) to suit this purpose.

So here's an example of a list of activities..
- city walking and shopping
- grocery shopping
- lunch with GFs
- running errands
- go out to dinner
- music concerts, opera, shows
- classes (French, piano)
- traveling and sightseeing
- weddings & parties
- theme parks
- movies

And then weather also needs to be taken into consideration - I live in a climate where it doesn't snow but does rain. So I also take into consideration leather type. Which is why I probably wouldn't buy a box bag. I don't want to bring it out on a day that started off sunny and then get caught in a downpour.

Oh gosh - I'm almost boring myself now with my long ramble. I'll try to wrap this up quickly. My next step was then figuring out which bag I felt would be ideal for each activity not worrying about the colors yet.

- city walking and shopping (small crossbody or small shoulder bag - bag can't be too heavy)
- grocery shopping (any size crossbody - I'm freaked out to turn my back on my cart if my bag is in it)
- lunch with GFs (lots of options here - but bag needs to be able to be slung over the back of a chair)
- running errands (crossbody or small/med tote)
- go out to dinner (clutch, smaller bag, again needs to be able to be slung over the back of a chair or fit in my lap)
- music concerts, opera, shows (crossbody for music concerts and for operas/shows a bag that fits in my lap comfortably)
- classes such as French or Piano (big tote that can schlep textbooks, folders and papers)
- traveling and sightseeing (med-large crossbody - bag needs to carry the day's essentials)
- weddings & parties (clutch, small bag)
- theme parks (crossbody - one that can take a bit of abuse)
- movies (tote I don't mind setting on the floor but can fit a bit of candy :giggle:)

Then I researched bags I felt were aesthetically pleasing to me and slotted them in based on their specs. Then within each type of bag category (like crossbody), I try to have a diversified color collex. If I'm in doubt regarding a particular color, I usually go with a neutral that works with many outfits. I also try my best not to duplicate color in my collex with greys and blacks as the exception. Here's the collection I ended up with...

Small crossbody - Gris Asphalte C18 and Black PM Tempete (Delvaux)
Med-Large crossbody - Gold Jypsiere 28
Small shoulder bag that can be slung over the back of a chair - Kelly 28 Malachite, Blue Nuit, Etain and K32 Gris T and Noir
Small/med tote - Pico 22 Rouge Grenat and Orange
Big tote - Raisin B35
Tote that can take abuse - Longchamp & No Name tote I found in Paris
Clutch - Black Kellycut
Lap bags - black kellycut, Gris A C18

I could probably still use a little pop color crossbody as well as a pop color clutch. But I'm in no rush to find those. I'll see what comes my way.... Do I have too many Kellys? Yes probably, but I love that bag. The versatility of hand carry, arm carry, and shoulder carry just make it a winner for me.

Not sure if this helps or is completely convoluted. :panic: Do you go through a similar thought process to build your collex? Please share how you do it!

Thank you - I know you've "moved on" (or should I say "moved elsewhere") from this post but I still find it so handy when considering new purchases! I love your rationale and great to consider a bag fitting in ones lap.

You are so funny - thank you for the humor! Climate change on ban island... LOFL!

I also appreciate the duty-free tip for scarves and the comments about the P22. I have been considering a P18 and can't pull the trigger yet but this gives me some food for thought on how (or if) I'd use it .

Also, I added a little anemone roulis 18 in evercolor. I figured out awhile back that I could add a MM chain d'ancre bracelet to the side that's adjustable and extend it to be the perfect crossbody length for me.
YES this! I love the Roulis but the strap is too short for me... that's the only reason I passed on the style but this makes me so excited! I use a twilly to extend my Evie TPM strap (similar to how you use your bracelet) but I can't imagine how I'd be able to tie a twillie on the Roulis "pin" end of the strap. Would you kindly let me know if you think that could/would work?

MYH, I'm a new H scarf collector (just started in May and am already at 8, eek! But 3 are pre-loved and 3 are gavroches) and have just finished reading your thread over the last few weeks. I have learned so much about what to seek out and treasure, and what to avoid — I've especially noted your advice about pattern size, borders, and neutrals. Thank you so much for sharing your expertise — we newbies are lucky to have it!

By way of a thank you, here are a few photos of some of my early purchases.
