Scarves MYH's Scarf Showcase - and philosophical ramblings about how I built my collection

So while I had some time, I thought I would continue with showcasing the scarves in my collection. Today I thought I would discuss a special category of scarves. Now I might be a fool to discuss this but oh well! C'est La Vie! It's scarves that you love, but are not on anybody else's radar! These are the best scarves! They don't cost a fortune and it's easy to bid for them on evilbay.

Now, I know there are universally loved scarves. ELenK, C'est la Fete, Turandot, etc... These are the George Clooney of scarves. Who's gonna not like them? Well, nobody. They look good and we all agree. The trick is to find a scarf that you love, but nobody really cares for. Then you can swoop in and buy all the cws! And if you're really lucky, others will soon realize how wonderful the scarf you love is, and the price will increase. And then you can feel smug. LOL. And tell everyone you bought yours for only $225. hahahaha!

So I have one of these scarves. Well maybe several of these scarves. The first is astrologie nouvelle but I think I've covered this scarf in great detail already. I love this design. The subject matter is just meh...to me but the scarf ties like a dream and I love the 3 cws I have. The second is a design that is rarely discussed. In fact, I don't think any other tPFers even own it. If you do, please come out of the woodwork and let yourself be known! Because I would like to bond with you over this scarf! I love it for the mosaics around the border. I love it for the giant tree in the middle. And everytime I look at it, I feel a sense of peace. Isn't it crazy that H scarves can put us in certain moods? Kind of like music? I'm not really a nature gal so it's quite an unusual choice for me but something about this scarf just appeals to me. And everytime I'm scrolling through evilbay, I stop dead in my tracks if I see this design and contemplate if I need another cw.

OK, enough of the suspense. It's Sous Le Cedre. I don't talk or display this scarf much because I don't think many others like it. It's kind of my own little secret. Now I will find it hilarious if you all start telling me it's your own little secret too.

The two cws I have are completely opposite of each other. The first has beautiful orangey-reds and yellows and greens in it. I love a orangey-red and find my capucine illusion bracelet matches it perfectly. I use this one in the evenings with black pants and now my KC.

The other cw is a daytime neutral cw. It matches my gold kelly and my Gris T kelly and a tan sweater I own 2 of. I'm a sucker for neutral scarves and this cw fits the bill perfectly.

And on both scarves, the tree. Oh the tree is so glorious! Sometimes I'll tie the scarf so part of the tree shows, and sometimes, I'll just go with the mosaics around the border.

Here you go...some photos of my Sous Le Cedre scarves.

Happy belated birthday, MYH! :flowers:

I love mosaic scarves and Sous Le Cedre was my little secret, but I guess NOT anymore! I don't own one yet but saw a lady at FSH wore it in the exact cw that you have, the red one and it's sucha beauty! Now the prices are of it is going to skyrocket, no thanks to you. :nogood::shucks::pout: :p

Also, second essiedub on wanting to see what fits in a KC. :smile1:

Waves MYH! I agree with you on both of these. While I have the former, I don't have the latter. I've always liked the mosaics (all mosaic scarves really). I am so glad you did this post. How one selects scarves, what one likes and why, the stories .. is always so interesting. I also like how you edit your pieces. Such discipline. It's hard for me to admit to disliking a scarf or bag or SLG after spending so much :noggin:

But to that kelly cut...:cloud9: I just love it! Again, aside from my pretend lifestyle, I want to know if there is any real practicality. can you show what you carry in that?

Hi ladies - first Wen84 - sorry about outing our sous le cedre scarf. It's just my opinion so chances are still good the prices will not skyrocket.

And second, I happened to take out my kellycut yesterday. Here's a quick pic if what I carried. I have a calvi in there( credit cards and cash) , phone, mints, keys and could probably still have fit lipstick and/or tissue paper and it still wouldn't be stuffed. I just dont routinely carry too many things with me so it suits my purposes. It's not huge but it's not tiny either. I hope that helps.

Pbp and I looked at a Kelly pochette too and we think the KC fits more than a KP.

Thank you for showing what fits inside your KC. :flowers: Twins on the Calvi! ;) And you answered my Q: what fits inside KC vs KP!

Well hello there! Sorry I have been MIA. I had a milestone birthday this past weekend and all my time and attention was devoted to planning and helping orchestrate it. To make a long story short, my little sis and DH were supposed to "handle" it but umm....you know how that goes...let's say they did not have the proper experience to organize a party of this size. So I felt bad for them and decided to step in. So, the house is back in order, the party rentals for tables and chairs have been picked up, and I am back to playing in my scarf drawer.

Ok, first, can I say how much I LOVE LOVE my black kellycut. I am getting so much use out of it. I think I can even strike off a black kelly 28 from my "Acquire" list. So I actually saved money! I thought I would need a black clutch and a black kelly 28. Turns out I don't need both! I am so thrilled I found my KC in Paris. I know PbP thinks I didn't get the full experience of getting rejected followed by success, but I now realize just how lucky I was. I did experience the thrill of getting a KC, it just wasn't on the day of buying it, it's a month afterwards. :choochoo:

So I thought I would post the accessories I wore going out last night. DH and I had just finished cleaning up the chaos in our backyard from my bday party and we were in no mood to cook. So we looked on opentable and found we could get a reservation at our favorite restaurant in our neighborhood. So I wore one of my fav Eric Bompard sweaters and a pair of black pants and pulled out my 140 giant silk A La Plume 140 giant silk that was purchased on a whim when I bought my malachite kelly. Throw on some VCA and my black KC along with a green clic clac, and I am ready for date night with my DH

Happy Birthday dear MYH!!!! :flowers:
I just love this thread, I sumerge into a kind of autism blending everyting aroundme every time I come here to catch up. Thank You for all your wonderful postings!
I alos just LOVE "A la Plume"! (besides oh so many other scarfs you have!) I just posted a reverence to it in the AW 2016 scarfs thread.
Silki Hugs
P.

I enjoy this thread so much! Well, I *did* have a Sous le Cedre, but the colors did not work well for me. I love mosaics, though.

MYH, your CWs are fabulous and I love your color schemes!

I've always adored Sous le Cedre because I love Greece and the scarf is like my mind's eye snapshot of driving through tiny villages and seeing people returning from a day working in the olive groves on a donkey .
Many times I've almost but not quite bought one , I suppose i've held back because so many scarves I love for the beauty of the design have been less than gorgeous when around my neck!
Now you've proved a scarf can be both beautiful and useful, I especially like the earth toned reds .

First, thanks for the birthday wishes everyone! It was a milestone one and I let DH off the hook for an H b-day present because we threw a big party at our house and in the past 6 months, I have indulged in 2 picotins, a kelly, and a kelly cut. So asking for another bag would really have been just a bit greedy. So I don't have a new bag or H item to show everyone but I did snag a little something for myself on eBay. I'll show everyone at the end of this post.

So I was pondering which scarf to feature next. I'm running through the data banks in my head and thinking of which would be nice to show next and I thought to myself, how come I can remember exactly where I bought each scarf and the story around purchasing it but I can't even remember what I had for lunch yesterday? :confused1:

So first I was going to show my first ever CSGM (if I have time today I'll do that as well) but the decision was made for me because we went out to dinner last night and I wore my Collections Imperiale for the first time. So I thought I could show everyone this scarf knotted. I think I mentioned it at the end of my Paris trip posts but didn't really show it tied.

As some of you may remember, I picked up this beauty on the way back from Paris in duty free. I wasn't planning on buying any more scarves but the duty free prices were just too :amazed: This design was on my radar ever since it first came out. I saw so many beautiful reveals on the scarf threads of it as a 90cm and a CSGM. So I filed it away in my memory banks and thought if I ever came across one that called my name, I would take it home. At duty free, I only saw one cw in the scarf case so was disappointed because it wasn't for me. But then I asked the SA if they had any more, and they said, yes! of course. And brought out a bunch from the drawer. So a lesson in duty free, just because you don't see it in the case doesn't mean it's not in the drawer. At my local boutique and at the H boutiques in Paris, they tend to make sure one of each color they have in inventory is sitting in the display case. Not so at duty free! Make sure to ask to peek inside the drawers.

I wanted to get a cw I didn't already have in my collection but TBH, I can't remember my entire collection anymore. :roflmfao: So I just chose one that appealed to me. At first, I was worried about the turquoise in this scarf - I love looking at turquoise but I don't really love it on me. I've tried the turquoise VCA 10 motif necklace on numerous times, but each time, me and DH both have concluded the color just doesn't look good on me. Saving money!

But I decided to go for it because I really liked all the colors in it and I knew it would work well with my wardrobe. Now, if you like starch poufy scarves, this one is for you. It is the stiffest, pouffiest scarf I have ever come across. It's like it's double-ply or something. I think I'm going to have to dunk it in some water and give it a quick wash. I personally don't like stiff scarves. I like drapey.

So in playing around with some mod pics, I have invented a new knot! :yahoo: So everyone knows the asymmetrical cowboy knot right? Fold the scarf in half, pick up opposite corners, fling around your neck, and tie a knot with small tails or big tails if that's what you like. So I decided to try this with a scarf folded in thirds. And I like it! It keeps the neck a bit warmer and shows the middle area of your scarf. Here's a quick pic of it in thirds on the floor and me having picked up the opposite corners.

ImageUploadedByPurseForum1464034674.718925.jpg

Here it is tied.
ImageUploadedByPurseForum1464034703.037157.jpg

I've also showed it with my favorite purple silk shirt tied as a necklace knot and a cowboy knot. Now, I actually don't like the cowboy knot that much for this scarf because I'm not a fan of the skinny yellow border showing. It's not that I mind the yellow, it's that if you don't scrunch your cowboy knot just right, the yellow lined border ends up looking crooked and I think the OCD in me is coming out. I don't like crooked lines. Yes, I did color within the lines as a child. I think I even traced the line and then colored within it. Yes, I know. I'm type A.

Here are the photos! Sorry I just noticed my first photo is a bit blurry. I must have shaky hands today.

And I found this bracelet as a little treat to myself on eBay. It was a great price so I snagged it. An illusion blue atoll/colvert to add to my collection. Now I have 3. I hope H makes more color combos in the seasons to come. CDCs don't work on me but these illusions are my answer to not having CDCs.

Really? I think this cw looks great on you? maybe you should hunt for another cw especially if you like the design

MYH -
Love everything in your post of your date night with DH! Simple top, pants, scarf, some jewelry and that KC. And in my fav colors too!
Happy birthday by the way!

I love mosaic scarves. I know I have seen others post this scarf on SOTD. First time I saw it tied, I thought, wow that is a cool design. Then I saw it flat, and I was disappointed, because ( don't kill me) , I didn't like the part in the center. The important thing is that you like it! And you are lucky to like something less popular.

And welcome back to posting!
No worries Scarf1. I'm not bothered at all that you don't like the middle of the scarf. different strokes for different folks. If we all liked exactly the same scarves, we would be engaged in bidding wars constantly!

Quite beautiful. The mosaics are divine. I assume this scarf is an homage to Lebanon?
I'm embarrassed to admit Pirula that I don't know if it's a homage to Lebanon? I just look at it and feel serene.

Your neutral Sous Le Cadre ties so beautifully, it is just stunning, love it.
Thanks!

I learned something new about you. I knew that you liked this design but I didn't know that you had two. That's a very under rated scarf. It's gorgeous tied and I had never heard about it except from you. Just beautiful on you.

Thank you for your sweet comment. I always respond because this is my favorite thread. [emoji4]
Hhahaaha! I can still surprise you a little. Thanks for the nice compliment.

Happy Birthday MYH!!! So glad you are loving your new K from Paris...and your date night outfit looked spot on! Now, Sous Le Cedre...totally under my radar, but not anymore...I have always loved Pavement because of the mosaic design, but it is often priced so high...now I have another to look for that will give me a similar effect...here you go, enabling me again!! Thanks for sharing your H insights with us :hugs:
Yes, Pavements is considered a grail by many so the price is a bit higher. But it is a very pretty scarf too.

This is exactly how it makes me feel too. You described it perfectly.

Bump🔝
Tabby001 - thanks for the reminder. I did come back with another post. Hope you enjoy it.

So in addition to my new scarf knot in my previous post, I thought I would share a little present I received from a dear friend for my birthday. The Hermes Scarf book by Nadine Coleno. I was so touched she got this for me knowing how much I love my H scarves. It's so very pretty and gives the history of the scarf and some of the designs. But would you believe, out of all the scarves I have, I don't own a single scarf with the same CW featured in this book? I have some same designs but different cws. I guess that means I need to collect more scarves.

I took some pretty pictures for you guys to look at.

Also, I saw some really cool ideas for scarves I wish H would make. I really love this Plumes within the Mineraux scarf. Isn't that cool? I would buy that in a heartbeat. A scarf within a scarf. It's like a twofer! And I also love this Eperon D'Or design where there is a different cw in each triangle. That would be a fun way to spice up an old design too!

I also saw the cocottes design in the book. It made me sad because I really want this design! The blue cw. Now let's see if it magically appears on evilbay now. :lolots:

Ack, I have dibs on the cocottes!! I saw that this year for the first time and just about died! I've only seen a couple on evilbay and they do command a premium - sigh.

I love the Eperon D'Or design in that triangle pattern, wish they would come out with one like that. Somehow it speaks to me more than the ones that are just two halves put together (does that make sense?).
