Dhfwu - thanks for the suggestion! OK, I'll show my most sentimental one next. The reason this next one is sentimental is not because DH picked it out or because someone close to me bought it for me. I actually bought it for myself and it was love at first sight at the boutique. By now, my SA knew me pretty well but didn't actually think of showing it to me because she didn't think I would have any interest in the design. I only found it because I insisted one day on pawing through the drawers at the boutique on my own. I was at the point where my SA would just unlock the drawer, step aside and let me "have at it"! And even attend to other business if she had to. Yes, I was on a first name basis with all the SAs in the boutique and both the security guards. :shame: By now, I had already discovered the 140cms and loved them! So it wasn't like I was taking a leap with the larger size or anything. Also, for the record, I'm not an Astrological Sign person either. When people tell me they are a typical cancer or sagittarius, I kind of just look at them blankly because I have no idea what that means. I just like the design Astrologie Nouvelle because of the way it ties. Full disclosure, this is not the only one you are going to see. I also have another 140cm in another cw, a 90cm, a maxi-twilly, and would buy more if I saw a cw that captivated me. I love that the astrologie nouvelle scarves have designs that go all the way out to the hem and all mine have a contrast hem (except for the Maxi Twilly of course).

The reason it's sentimental to me is because I almost always pack it with me when I travel. It has been my trusty companion on many a business and pleasure trip and has seen the world with me. It has protected me from sun, wind, cold, snow, everything. It adds color to my outfits without shouting "look at me" and matches practically my entire wardrobe. It is so soft from use, dry cleaning, and washing that it almost feels like suede. I think you can see this in my photo with my grey sweater. I love how it feels around my neck and makes me feel safe and warm immediately. I actually even spilled red nail polish on it once (a fairly large amount on the white part near the hem), and thought - ok that's it. Game over with this scarf - $800 down the drain and that's the end of my lovely scarf. But this scarf has 9 lives. I took it to a local dry cleaner and ALL the nail polish came out without any damage to the scarf. I have washed it myself with the laundress soap probably 5 times and the colors are still vibrant and make my heart sing. When I'm not sure what scarf to pair with my outfit, I always reach for it. I  this scarf.

I absolutely adore this scarf on u!! U weren't wrong when u said it goes with everything!!! It seriously does!!! It has every color that I gravitate towards!!! Pls keep going... U r an enthralling storyteller and we all r ur avid listeners!! I think by far this has become my favorite thread!!!

Dear MYH,

thank you so much fo starting this thread. I just began collecting scarves and are very interested in how you built you wonderful collection. Thank you so much for your insights and taking the time to share. I hope to learn a lot from you, especially when it comes to choosing a scarf.

Hugs,

MYH You tell it so well , I'm a naturally nosey person so this the best ! :D

You have such a wise and informed eye to know so well what will work , you chose a lovely easygoing but sharp c'way.
Astrologie in the old format didn't do it for me , but A Nouvelle is a different matter .
Your c'way must be a dream to wear and I love that it is a real friend and support .

My equivalent is a CSGM I picked up already well-worn , Brns d'Or in red, orange and beige …goes with everything and is so good to cuddle up to .

Moirai - the farandole necklace I have is neither a 120 or a 160. I didn't feel like I was tall enough to pull off either lengths, but the 80 was too short. So what I decided to do was to buy the 80 and also buy a farandole bracelet so that I could hook them together to make a 100 when I felt like it for the perfect length necklace, or break them apart and wear them separately as a necklace (in y shape) and a bracelet.

My taste in jewelry is kind of like my taste in bags. For nicer (not all of it fine) jewelry, I have a capsule collection that works with all occasions and with my scarves. I really didn't want to over buy because these pieces are kind of expensive and I wanted to only purchase exactly what I need. All the pieces are pretty neutral and go with anything I'm wearing, even scarves. I use the fashion jewelry from Hermes along with the scarves and handbags to add color and pop to my outfit. It's kind of like buying neutral color furniture and bringing color into the room with throw pillows, vases, artwork, and flowers. My thinking was to collect the following:

I hope this explanation wasn't too long and difficult to follow. And I would post a pic of my collection, but I'm not quite comfortable doing that on an open forum.

Thank you, MYH, for your thorough explanation. You have an amazing collection of jewelry that is well thought out. Great idea of combining 80cm farandole with a bracelet to get the right length and for multiple uses. I really like your explanation of using scarves and accessories to elevate an outfit.

Please keep going. You are such a great storyteller.

How wonderful to have one special scarf that really protects, uplifts, and cheers you. And that repels nail polish!!! I just love your stories.

The colors in this scarf are so rich, and you look amazing in it! The design doesn’t wow me when laid flat, but it becomes a magnificent array of colors draped around your neck.

The 90cms already have a lot of material, but you make the 140 cm look manageable. How do you avoid looking like you’re drowning in silk when you tie this sized scarf? TIA!

Hi! I'm sorry I've been MIA - my mom was in town this weekend and I've been waiting until I had a good chunk of alone time before starting on this thread. It's wonderful!!!! All of your pictures and descriptions and stories, and also everyone's comments - reading this thread makes me choke up a little, and it's not even my thread lol!

I love your Echec du Roi, especially this cw of it. And I was never partial to Astrologie Nouvelle, but this cw of it is making me think twice, it's just beautiful. I can't believe that the nail polish came out completely, and that gives me hope for the coffee I spilled all over one of my scarves recently... :(

Thanks everyone! I'm happy you all are enjoying this thread. Moirai - the 140cm silks are not really going to keep you warm like CSGMs but, they are more durable. You don't need to worry as much about snags and stuff. In a pinch, I will drape it around my shoulders if dining outdoors and it gets chilly but although it's a large size, it's really more outfit decoration.

Hello everyone. Thanks for your sweet comments about my storytelling and this thread. I'm really enjoying myself too!
DHFWU - the trick to not letting a 140cm overwhelm you is draping. At first, these scarves can be kind of starchy and "stand up" on their own. You kind of have to beat the silk down so it doesn't engulf you. If you have the guts, I would give it a quick wash with the laundress soap that is specific for silk. This takes the stiffness right out of the scarf and gives it a soft silky drape. Then it's super easy to manage. But really, the more you wear it, the more it'll "loosen" up and drape beautifully.
Klynneann - did you take your mom to H? That's great you got some mother daughter time. Don't worry about that coffee. It'll come right out. These silks wear like iron. I have high hopes I'm wearing my scarves for the rest of my life! I'll be 80 one day and still be here on tPF posting my new finds. :D

I can see why! It ties gorgeously and looks like it goes with everything from jeans to a cocktail dress.

I gasped at the red nail polish. [emoji33]. I think you just took a year off my life. My worst predicament was balsamic vinaigrette; but you are right these babies have nine lives!

Yes! I think I took 5 years off my life when that happened. I was so stupid. I was wearing my scarf and painting my nails red and of course, wet nail polish is like glue so before I knew it, I had the tails of this scarf stuck to my wet nails. I thought I was going to die! then guess what I did, I panicked and decided it would be wise to pour nail polish remover on it which just made it a big pink stain.
The next day, I took it to the dry cleaners and they made it good as new!

The lesson of the day is to always take your scarf off if you're going to the nail salon or are going to paint your own nails!

Hello silky darlings! I'm back. OK, today I want to feature a scarf that busted a fashion myth for me. I always thought wearing black and brown together in one outfit was a no-no. Either stick with all black or all brown right? Like, never wear brown pants with black shoes. Well, after I saw this scarf and saw how well brown and black go together, I'm over that old fashion rule. This scarf makes brown and black together look divine! It is so elegant and best of all, it has a bunch of lovely Hermes products on it. The border matches my gold kelly and has the cutest contrast stitching on the ribbon woven throughout the design and the border. It also plays an important role in my scarf collection as a neutral scarf. There are some days I want to wear a scarf for warmth or decoration but don't want one that attracts too much attention. Having a few neutrals in your collection is perfect for these instances. I know there are a lot of color lovers out there, but there is something to be said for a perfect neutral colorway scarf too.
Whenever I'm wearing a black sweater, I almost always pull this scarf out and am so happy I have it as part of my collection.
As a side note, this scarf is one of the few designs you can buy at the Madison Ave boutique and get letters or numbers embroidered on it. I chose to get my initials, but other good ideas the SA gave me was our wedding anniversary date (cause it has a monsieur and madame on it) or the date of a another special occasion. Since the scarf wasn't for my b-day or anything, I chose just to do my initials. At the time, the older astrology design was also another option for embroidery. I haven't been back to the boutique on Madison in a year or so and don't know if this design and the Astrology are still being offered? Maybe somebody can chime in here and let the rest of us know? There's a little glass display case to the left of the scarf counter that features the scarves and cws you can get this special service done. I hope it's still there. The embroidery customization is really a neat gift option to personalize the scarf. Sadly, you can't do it on any scarf they offer. Only the designs featured in the little glass display case.
And if you haven't guessed already, the scarf I'm talking about is Monsieur et Madame.
