Hello silky darlings! I'm back. OK, today I want to feature a scarf that busted a fashion myth for me. I always thought wearing black and brown together in one outfit was a no-no. Either stick with all black or all brown right? Like, never wear brown pants with black shoes. Well, after I saw this scarf and saw how well brown and black go together, I'm over that old fashion rule. This scarf makes brown and black together look divine! It is so elegant and best of all, it has a bunch of lovely Hermes products on it. The border matches my gold kelly and has the cutest contrast stitching on the ribbon woven throughout the design and the border. It also plays an important role in my scarf collection as a neutral scarf. There are some days I want to wear a scarf for warmth or decoration but don't want one that attracts too much attention. Having a few neutrals in your collection is perfect for these instances. I know there are a lot of color lovers out there, but there is something to be said for a perfect neutral colorway scarf too.
Whenever I'm wearing a black sweater, I almost always pull this scarf out and am so happy I have it as part of my collection.
As a side note, this scarf is one of the few designs you can buy at the Madison Ave boutique and get letters or numbers embroidered on it. I chose to get my initials, but other good ideas the SA gave me was our wedding anniversary date (cause it has a monsieur and madame on it) or the date of a another special occasion. Since the scarf wasn't for my b-day or anything, I chose just to do my initials. At the time, the older astrology design was also another option for embroidery. I haven't been back to the boutique on Madison in a year or so and don't know if this design and the Astrology are still being offered? Maybe somebody can chime in here and let the rest of us know? There's a little glass display case to the left of the scarf counter that features the scarves and cws you can get this special service done. I hope it's still there. The embroidery customization is really a neat gift option to personalize the scarf. Sadly, you can't do it on any scarf they offer. Only the designs featured in the little glass display case.
And if you haven't guessed already, the scarf I'm talking about is Monsieur et Madame.

That is so pretty. I never appreciated that design before. I love the contrast stitching. I'm laughing because I thought, why would they print a VCA necklace on the scarf? That's not Hermes. And then I realized that it's your necklace. I love how all of your accessories coordinate. And it's so nice that you could personalize the scarf. Thanks for sharing another beauty.

Yes! I think I took 5 years off my life when that happened. I was so stupid. I was wearing my scarf and painting my nails red and of course, wet nail polish is like glue so before I knew it, I had the tails of this scarf stuck to my wet nails. I thought I was going to die! then guess what I did, I panicked and decided it would be wise to pour nail polish remover on it which just made it a big pink stain.
The next day, I took it to the dry cleaners and they made it good as new!

The lesson of the day is to always take your scarf off if you're going to the nail salon or are going to paint your own nails!

🙄. Omg! Okay; point taken.

Oh how lovely!! [emoji7]

I've been doing black and brown for years! I'd completely forgotten there was a rule against it (or didn't care). Then again, I mix metals daily. So perhaps ignore me.

I love this scarf! I can totally see how it's a work horse "go to." How lovely that it's monogrammed! I never knew about the special glass case.

This is my new favorite thread; thanks so much! It makes Ban Island easier to bear. [emoji6][emoji8]

This looks lovely when tied. This is not a pattern that I ever cared much for but in this colorway there is a perfect neutrality that makes it work.

OMG I thought the same thing about the VCA necklace! It blends right in perfectly!! HAHA

Haha - that onyx VCA is another workhorse piece of mine. I just put out a bunch of accessories I wear with the scarf, Hermes or not.

Pirula - you are so ahead of the rest of us. I was always afraid of black and brown. I mix metals too. Or else I would have to tell DH I also need another engagement ring and wedding band in yellow gold. :laugh:My set is in platinum.

BJS - I agree with you about the design. Actually, about a year or so ago, it was reissued with leopard spots in the background. I tried that one on but decided, I preferred the classic design. So when I saw it at Madison Ave on offer with monogram option, I jumped at it. Also, I think this colorway is perfect for men and women.

DHFWU - the trick to not letting a 140cm overwhelm you is draping. At first, these scarves can be kind of starchy and "stand up" on their own. You kind of have to beat the silk down so it doesn't engulf you. If you have the guts, I would give it a quick wash with the laundress soap that is specific for silk. This takes the stiffness right out of the scarf and gives it a soft silky drape. Then it's super easy to manage. But really, the more you wear it, the more it'll "loosen" up and drape beautifully.
Thanks for the advice! As a scarf newbie, I'm still terrified of washing a scarf or taking it to the dry cleaners, lest they smash the hems flat. I may get a "rescue scarf" off eBay to practice washing and beating down silk.

Hello everyone. Thanks for your sweet comments about my storytelling and this thread. I'm really enjoying myself too!

Klynneann - did you take your mom to H? That's great you got some mother daughter time. Don't worry about that coffee. It'll come right out. These silks wear like iron. I have high hopes I'm wearing my scarves for the rest of my life! I'll be 80 one day and still be here on tPF posting my new finds. :D

I did not take her to H on this visit, but I had taken her over the summer and that was the visit when she persuaded me not to get my black/brown behapi because she thought it was more appropriate for college-aged girls. No more H for my mom lol! Ok, I will try to wash my coffee-stained silk. I'll have to get that laundress soap you're talking about... If that one is successful, I may have to do my other 140s, as I sometimes feel similar to DHFWU in that the larger silks sometimes wear me...

Ok the key is to keep the silk swishing. Don't let the scarf just sit in the soapy water. As soon as you see the stain is out (light rubbing is fine to remove it), move on to rinsing.
The brown bracelet is a reed krakoff but sadly, I don't think they are still in business. The website is down and I'm not sure if the store in NYC is still open. I also have this same bracelet in blue.

Wonderful back story for a perfect scarf MYH. I love black and brown together, as well as navy and black, another combo my DM always tells me is a no-no! (keep in mind I am a grown middle-aged woman and my DM still tells me what I should and shouldn't wear...hehe)
