Scarves MYH's Scarf Showcase - and philosophical ramblings about how I built my collection

Hello silkies! Sorry for the brief intermission. Personal life got in the way of my Hermes life. Unbelievable! Don't the people around me understand I need to dedicate time to Hermes and tPF? Haha.

OK, I was going to do a post on C'est la Fete since it is the only Halloween-ish scarf I have but it has been covered so beautifully by TangoTosca in her scarf circus thread so I decided to save it for another time. Also, we have seen tons of beautiful modeling shots recently in the grail thread too on C'est La Fete so let's cover something else today.

Today, I am going to talk about how a bag (yes you heard me right) can you drive you to insanity when making scarf purchasing decisions. How can this be? A bag doesn't even talk but for some reason, certain ones are just demanding! They want coordinating scarves, they want bracelets, they want shoes. So a bag that cost $XX dollars, turns out to actually cost $XX + $1,500 because of the additional coordinating accessories I had to buy to go with it. Please tell me this has happened to some of you too, not just me. I hope I'm not the only one that is nuts.

To be fair to this little scarf, I don't regret this purchase at all. I actually do like the scarf but the colors are so bright! It almost hurts my eyes. And this might be the only scarf in the world where you can wear a red shirt and carry an orange bag at the same time. But if I'm being honest with myself, the only reason I bought it was because I wanted something that would match my bag.

Well, seeing that it's Halloween this Sat in the U.S., this post is kind of on theme because the bag I'm talking about is an orange Picotin. This was my first Hermes bag ever. When I first started collecting scarves, I told myself I would not buy any bags because the price range was out of my comfort zone. But if you go to the boutique enough, the pesky bag case will eventually catch your eye. And of course, I eventually started asking about the prices of certain bags and when my SA told me the price of the Picotin, I thought, ok, I can handle that. It's still priced in a zone where I don't fell too much guilt. She asked me what color I wanted and I thought, why not a classic orange since it's going to be my one and only bag? (haha, little did I know I would eventually get a couple of kellys and evelynes) At the time, I thought cool, I have an orange bag! But then I realized...dum dum dum dum....I don't have any scarves with bright orange in the design to go with it. That realization launched me into a frenetic mode looking on eBay and in the boutique for scarves that had a little bit of orange but not too much orange. Because let's face it, I'm going to look horrible in a scarf that's completely bright orange. So after a couple of days (yes, days not weeks, see I'm not a very patient person) I spotted this scarf on eBay and thought aha! That's perfect. A little bit of orange to match my orange Pico but still has alot of other colors in it so my complexion does not turn a ghastly color.
So that my friends is the story of how you need to factor in the TRUE cost of a bag. It's not just the price of the bag itself, it's all the coordinating accessories you need to go with it. So if you buy a say Colvert bag...cough...cough....you know who you are...you are going to go on a mad hunt looking for scarves and other accessories that have that colvert blue in it too. :loots:

Here's my scarf...Flots du Cheval...the one I only wear when I'm carrying my orange Pico. Lesson learned.

I have absolutely no idea to whom you are referring. What lunatic would buy 20 colvert scarves in 6 months?

Well you managed to find absolutely the best scarf with orange for you and your wardrobe. It's amazing, really. And I see that the bag led to scarves and scarves led to necklaces and bracelets. But as usual it all works so harmoniously. Wow, you are good. Amazing. [emoji122][emoji122][emoji122]

PbP - I think you know my style so well now I can send you to the boutique to buy things for me. Interested in a personal shopper job while you're in Paris?

Actually I was going to ask you if you wanted to freelance as my style consultant! Love, love, love your style and how you bring it all together.

:goodpost: MYH!

Gee. I don't know anyone with a Colvert bag. :sneaky: Hmm. Colvert? What's that?

This is great. Actually, I think your scarf is gorgeous with a fantastic color combination and from what I can see of your skin tone, it looks perfectly flattering. I am your sister in the thought process of "I can't possibly pay those prices for an Hermes bag. But OH! I do like the Picotin and it's not so bad.." I've not fallen down that rabbit hole yet. But I suspect I might, someday.

I thought I spied some additional orange in your group shot with a Jeu des Omnibus et Dames Blanches? Hmmmmm.....

Well, so what if you only wear this with your orange bag? I have an orange handbag myself, which I adore. I find it very versatile. Especially in Summer and Autumn. So I suspect your beautiful little scarf gets very much it's share of wear time.

I can totally see the logic behind buying scarves to match a fabulous hand bag. Or even perhaps buying specific scarves in anticipation of a particular handbag? Hmmm, PbP? Yeah baby! :yahoo:

Great story! Oh how I am enjoying your thread as you take us one by one through your amazing collection! :D I am totally jealous of your Kara necklace as well! It's on my list now that I saw one on h.com in Bleu Paon...one of the best H blues! When I first saw it at the boutique they only had the corals and pinks which are just not me...but in blue? Yes please!!

Come to think of it, Bleu Paon may be acceptable with Colvert as well. Another enabling hint to my lovely fellow New Englander. ;)

Omgosh BJS - I saw the blue paon this morning and literally had to sit on my hands not to click purchase! I also have the red/burgundy one and really, I cannot collect the whole rainbow. Or can I?

Yes, a MM. I don't know why Hermes does not make more of this size. It's so hard to find!

This is a very pretty scarf! Look at all those blues in it, as well as the orange!
Thanks! I don't think I would have picked it had it been for that pesky orange bag.

This scarf is gorgeous, MYH! The colors are vibrant and great match to your Picotin.
Thanks Moirai for the nice comments. :D

MYH Great little scarf , terrific read , love your thread!
My thoughts on your lovely Picotin are that it would be great with a monochrome outfit all black , white , beige or deep navy ….no need for a scarf :graucho:[half -joking]

Interesting thing about Flots de Cheval is that it is wonderful tied as 70cm or mousseline , but flat it is in that horse rosette department which reminded me of Rubans de Cheval .
Seeing this I think the message is very much, get over that and get me one as I love those colours.
