Hi everyone! ok, I'm back. Before I get to the knot we saw on the SA at George V, I thought I would share my purchase from there.

Before I left for Paris, I didn't have any scarves in mind that I wanted to purchase. I really feel like I have enough scarves and I was really concentrating on two large purchases I wanted to make. But of course I have a little slush fund for impulse buys so I thought I would just leave it to fate to see what ended up coming home with me.

PbP and I walked into George V and it was quite busy. So we milled around the scarf counter by the front door and a greeter SA approached us and asked if we needed help. So we said yes and she called another female SA to come help us. I scanned the 90cm scarves in the glass display and didn't see any that were new to me. PbP and I are both interested in 140cm giant silks so we asked to see those. I tried on the orange colorful Fantasies Indiennes but I just wasn't feeling it. So I mentally struck that one off my list. It was too colorful and not really me. We asked to see twillies but I didn't see any that I wanted. So I thought I would "look harder" in the scarf case that held the 90cms and that's when I saw this scarf. Being a collector for several years, I kind of know when I see an unusual one in a cw that doesn't come out often. Many of you have already honed in on this scarf so it's not one that I "discovered" by myself. In fact, some of the chatter around this scarf did influence me a bit but I have just never seen it in person.

So PbP and I both tried it on and it looked good on both of us. I actually think this cw is flattering to almost everyone. It's also very versatile. It can be used in the daytime or evening and best of all, it's a jacquard with the bees pattern on it. So I'm sure you all have already guessed - I bought the navy and white Flamingo Party jacquard.

One of the reasons this scarf came home with me is that I have a beautiful long necklace made of bees and pearls from a London jeweler Theo Fennell. DH bought this necklace for me 10 years ago when we were strolling around London and I still love this necklace to this day. I wear it often and have never bought another long gold necklace to replace it or even rival it because I want to wear it as often as possible. I'm a huge fan of the bee motif and am constantly looking for jewelry or scarves with this design. I've even entertained buying a Napoleon jacquard scarf off of eBay in the past but was never able to pull the trigger because most of the cws just have too much gold in it for my liking. So when I tried the navy and white Flamingo Party on, it was a no brainer. Here are some photos. I hope you can see the bee motif clearly.

Stunning!:loveeyes::loveeyes:I hope to have your luck when I head over to Paris in June.

Now onto the knot. I think this knot maybe so simple many of you already use it. But for me, it's so simple I have never given it a second thought and have never worn it this way. I also find that if you play with it a bit, you can come up with many different variations just by adding a twist or two. It's also a knot that looks different each time you tie it so if you don't like how it has turned out at first, just take it off and redo it and the second attempt may come out great!

So PbP named this knot the George V and that's what I'm going to call it too. After we discovered it on our 2nd day in Paris, we both pretty much exclusively wore our 90cms this way for the rest of the trip!

So I have 3 variations of the same knot for you. The SA was wearing the first one I'm going to show and I'll call it Variation I. Basically, all you do is fold your 90cm into a bias fold and drape it around your neck with the tails hanging down the front. Then pick up the tails with opposite hands. So the tail that's hanging on the right, pick up with your left hand and the tail that's hanging to the left of your neck, pick up with your right hand. Bring the tails behind your neck and tie a knot. If you make it tighter around your neck, you'll achieve a kind of two-tiered turtleneck look. If you tie a small knot behind your neck and let the scarf be more drapey, you can kind of get a cowl neck look.

I apologize for the hazy photos. The morning light was just coming through the windows and I had to get this post done now because I'm off to play tennis soon.

So I wore it this way for a couple of hours and I found that sometimes the loops would separate and one would kind of end up strangling me while the other hung down too low. I think this happens to scarves that are soft and not starchy. If your scarf is starchy, I think it will stay just fine. But since I didn't like the knot separating, I came up with Variation II.

Variation II is to start with the same bias fold but then cross the tails over each other just once, like you're beginning to tie a regular knot. But then, instead of completing the knot, just bring the two tails around the back of your neck. I tried to take some photos to show you what I am trying to describe. I hope it makes sense! I found that this method gives some interest to the knot and pattern. The first two photos are variation II and the other 3 are the instructions.

The third Variation is just Variation I but before you bring the ends around the back of your neck and tie a knot, give each tail a few twists and you will get a more interesting result as well. Here is what Variation III looks like on me.

So I hope this wasn't too simple but as I said before, I do believe that parisian women keep their scarf knots very simple paired with a streamlined outfit and look gorgeous!

My next post will be one of the big purchases I made on Day 1!

Very well done. And all without a cantaloupe! Thank you. I'm off to try these out.......

A trip to Paris-- I love this thread! :woohoo:

MYH, I feel your pain. I always pack twice as many scarves as I end up wearing. I hate leaving home without my favorites. Because, just in case.

I am enjoying your Paris trip immensely!

So glad to see you are back with the good stuff and inspirational thoughts!

Breathlessly awaiting your next post....

Thanks for being such a great cheering section! :dothewave: It definitely gives me motivation to continue. :D

I will fess up that I was MyH's traveling companion. She writes so much more eloquently than I do so I will let her tell the stories. Even I am enjoying reading them and I was there. [emoji4] keep going MyH!!!
:hugs: Mon amie! Please chime in if you have something to add. I'm sure you saw other things I did not see. Two pairs of eyes are better than one!

Waiting for your next post!
It's up! Enjoy!

Stunning!:loveeyes::loveeyes:I hope to have your luck when I head over to Paris in June.
I hope you have good luck too! Sprinkling H fairy dust on you.

Thanks Momasaurus! Yes, no Canty this time LOL!

Just to chime in and add: for anyone who thinks the collier de chien bracelet is too edgy especially in black- I did at one point too- think again about it. It's so classic when worn correctly. The George V SA was wearing black ankle pants, a simple black sweater, black loafers and a black collier de chien with a colorful scarf. And of course her hair and makeup were simple but elegant. It was the essence of French simplicity in dressing and looked oh so chic.... And youthful. I think the secret is to keep the rest simple so your one or two accessories can shine. Her look was an inspiration to me that I'll try to follow. MyH is a master at perfect editing like this herself which is why we all enjoy her posts so much.

Yay! Beautiful! And I love your bee and pearl necklace. Don't these new jacquards have such a nice feel to them?

MYH - this is my first post but I wanted to tell you how much I have enjoyed this thread! I spent yesterday and today reading it. Along with Tango Tosca's scarf circus thread, these two threads have been my favorites. There is so much to learn and I am so unworthy. :)

I have a small collection and have only been buying scarves for a few years. I have made numerous mistakes and have enjoyed your candor in describing your 'scarfing' errors. I have felt like a doofus at times and thought 'WTH was I thinking?!!' after some of my purchases.

I look forward to hearing more...especially from Paris. I was there last fall and still sigh when I think about it.

Ah yes!! And she was wearing a black CDC. Good memory PbP!

I'm blushing at your compliment but really, your style is also fabulous. Walking around Paris, you fit right in with all the Parisian women. I'm quite boring in how I dress but it works for me because I don't really like clothes shopping. Jewelry and bag shopping is another matter.

My dear, you are not unworthy at all! We're all worthy of H scarves. It just takes a little bit of time to figure out how to use them. Thank you for writing and telling me you enjoy this thread immensely. It's very rewarding to know there are people enjoying my photos and thoughts on scarves.

This is so fabulous!!!
Thank you! Have you succumbed to a jacquard from this season yet?

I have read every page of this thread, and am enjoying it immensely!!
Happy you stopped by and let me know. I've got a lot more from Paris to share.

MYH, that gorgeous scarf was a serendipitous find!! LOVE it with your bee necklace, and I am going to give your George V knot a try!! What fun you and Pocketbook Pup must have had together! Can't wait to read the rest of your story, and thanks so much for taking the time and effort to share this with us!
