Scarves MYH's Scarf Showcase - and philosophical ramblings about how I built my collection

I thought I would change up the pace today and show a twilly I purchased recently. It's from the new SS2016 collection and I'm so grateful I have a SA willing to track down any cw I want in the country and have it shipped to me. So as I mentioned before, bags are demanding! They need silks and shoes and bracelets to coordinate with them. So as many of you know, I bought a malachite kelly recently and only had 1 twilly to use with it. Oh the tragedy! I had to correct this issue immediately. I've always loved mythiques phoenix but other than the one elusive and very expensive black/white/prune cw, the others just didn't look good on me. So this twilly kills two birds with one stone. I get to have the Mythiques Phoenix pattern (cw12)and my malachite kelly gets another twilly. So here she is with some accessories as well...

Very cool twilly, it is both colorful and monochrome just like the scarves this season.
Your K sure has lots of beautiful accessories!

Lanit, I have always been intrigued by the Cuisine Fr, so your news about the 70 is exciting! It looks lovely.

Momasaurus, I saw Lanit in her special edition La Cuisine, and I immediately copied her. It's one of my favorite pieces ever, and the 70cm size ties superbly.

Lanit and her mod pics are dangerous.

Oh MYH, such a great story especially about the storm whipping you into a spending spree. I've looked for a lumieres for ages, especially the blue, but gave up after seeing the escalating prices. I will not share my latest obsession though it is a 90 for fear that it will raise prices with eyes on our silk threads about our various hunts,

I too have had quite a few misses. Three times I bought vintage a la gloire de la cuisine francaise, and each time sorely disappointed in the faded colors, poor condition and the way it tied. Then guess what? It was issued in a special edition 70 for La Bocuse fundraiser and boy did I swoop on the opportunity to get one all the way from Los Angeles from the organization who offered to sell me one, it was the perfect size, coloration and it was NEW! I laughed at your story, though sad that the angel did not work her magic for you.

Another grail that was difficult for me initially was my Pavements. I leaped at the chance to buy this one though the seller did not mention it's very distressed hems. I practically cried seeing the hems mistreated when it first arrived. Seriously some one had sent this silk to a dry cleaner where it must have been pressed to death. The photos only showed one section of the hems which where not so bad. I nearly sent it back but could not bring myself to part with it after such a long hunt.then the issue of the yellowish pale background color which is a problem for medium Asian skin tones. It was nearly a year after every I received it that I happen to be wearing a pale sweater and needed a silk for the cool temps in the evening. I dug though the silks and was reminded of the pavements. It brought me great joy to see it finally worked, a truly serendipitous moment.

Ah those grails will haunt our memories but sometimes, the right timing and accessory will just make it work. Not always, but if you really love a design it could come back on trend or your wardrobe choices shift ever so much to enjoy it again.

Here is the distressed hem Pavements and I will look for the Bocuse a la Gloire.

I have long sworn off twillies, but this might make me recant.

Oh and I have to add...twillies don't count or add to our overall #'s in our scarf collections! They are so little so are basically just rounding errors. So here she is with some accessories as well...

Yes, I knew I wanted it as soon as I saw it!

Funny, at first I thought from the photos that it was all black and white on one side and color on the other side. But it actually transitions from color on both sides to black and white on both sides. I didn't mind it at all even though it wasn't what I had in mind.

I have long sworn off twillies, but this might make me recant.

Awww...thanks. When I first started carrying H bags, I also thought I wasn't a twilly person but since I use so much hand lotion and want my handles to stay clean, I became a twilly person. And now I think it's fun to dress up my bags with them.

Love mythiques Phoenix [emoji7][emoji7] and I agree with you! Twillies should not count.. Although I think I have over 20 twillies so far in my collection (and growing).... I cannot say NO to a good twilly design! But I'm still on the fence buying my first 140cm cashmere shawl [emoji19]

Over 20! wow! I think I'm only at 13 or something like that. lol.

I understand your angst about buying a cashmere shawl. It's quite expensive for something that does get fuzzy and may even snag. Have you considered a giant silk 140cm? Much more durable and the same size?

I adore the soft feeling of 140cm cashmere tho [emoji28][emoji28] so that is why I'm on the fence! I [emoji173]️ it but not the price

Now I want a 70 Cuisine francaise!!

Lanit, the great enabler.

Aww thanks dear gals! La Cuisine is definitely worth the hunt. It also came in a beautiful blue coloration as well:graucho:

More info on the Bocuse silk, this was 2012

As Hermès has been famous worldwide for the VERY high quality of their products since they opened in 1837, it makes sense that they are involved with the world’s most rigorous culinary competition. As part of the tie-in, the US branch released a limited-edition scarf called “A la Gloire de la Cuisine Française,” available for $308 only in the New York and Beverly Hills stores. The proceeds of 600 (300 in red in California, 300 in blue in NY, all 70 x 70 cm) “carré Hermès” will go to The Bocuse d’Or USA Foundation.

Dear silkies,

I'm sorry I abruptly stopped posting for awhile and life on this thread had slowed down to just above a pulse. Life got busy and I got wrapped up pursuing some other hobbies. But I have been thinking about all of you and feeling extremely guilty too. :shucks: So for the past few days, I have been plotting my return. And I knew I had to make it a good one so I hope this post qualifies.

Today, I am showcasing two scarves together instead of just one! So here's my tale of two scarves. It's a long one so if you don't want to read through the whole story, feel free to skip to the photos. As a longtime piano player, I have always wanted a piano themed scarf in my collection. I almost pulled the trigger on organophone several times but in the end, I didn't like the gold horns in the corners. Point d'orgue was also a contender but at the time I was looking, I told myself no more 90cms because I had way too many of them. At around the same time, DH and I also found out we would be returning to the west coast and living in sunny LA so I started to become more interested in mousselines. Living in the northeast for many years, I wasn't sure how mousselines fit into my collection, but now with the news we were moving to LA, all I could imagine was me wearing floaty ethereal moussies looking gorgeous while walking on the beach in Malibu. Full disclosure...in actuality, that has yet to happen. :lolots: And as luck would have it, at about the same time, there was a lovely TPF member named Melora, who started a marvelous thread about all the details in Point d'Orgue. She is an organ player herself and knew the ins and outs of every detail of the 90cm along with any inaccuracies the scarf had (she said there were only a few). If you've never read it, here's the thread. It's a must read. Seriously. http://forum.purseblog.com/hermes/ode-to-point-d-orgue-883505.html She had us all captivated for weeks and would come back every couple of days and give us more information and real life comparisons of actual organ parts vs. the art in her Point d'Orgue scarf. I was whipped up in a tizzy and decided, maybe I should forego my no 90cm rule and just get the purple cw. Then the planets must have aligned because in the new season...(can't remember which one now) scarf thread, it was announced Point d'Orgue would be reissued in a 140cm mousseline. Oh we all rejoiced! I rejoiced! Melora rejoiced! We all started seeking every bit of data we could find about the cws this scarf would be produced in.

In the new season scarf thread, the posts, reveals, and mod shots started to roll in. Then one day, I saw it! The one that had to be mine. It had a light grey background and had lots of bright colors like emerald, red, orange, yellow, pink, all the colors of the rainbow practically between Red-Green that would be perfect for me. I wanted a bright moussie and already had lots of accessories to go with it. Finally, my decision was made. So I started to look for it online, in stores, everywhere. It was nowhere to be found. I finally convinced a SA in the BH boutique to do a nationwide search for me and she said there were a total of ZERO in the US. Huh? How could this be? So for months I searched and was losing hope when one day, I walked into BH and saw it sitting under the glass case. Upon closer inspection, it was kind of limp and crumpled but I decided to live with it being the "display" one because I had finally found it. The SA I was working with checked the drawers, but that was the only one. So I said, that's ok. Wrap it up. I will adopt it. As soon as I got home, I spread it out on my bed and saw a *gasp* *horror* 6 inch snag! 6 inches. Really? Could I be so unlucky? I debated for days about whether or not I should keep it and decided I could not tolerate such a big snag. So with a heavy heart, I took it back to BH and the SA there said "Are you sure you want to return it? It's a unicorn and you may never find it again?" But I'm a bit of a perfectionist and knew I could not live with it. So I took a store credit and was on my way.

For the next few months, I could not stop thinking about that mousseline and one day while I was in Vegas, I broke down and decided that cw was never going to be mine so I better find another cw I like as well. My second choice was the blue one with orange and blue izmir-ish highlights. Luckily the Crystals boutique had it so I bought it and was 90% happy with my purchase. At least I found one right? But in the back of my mind, I still felt sad about the one that got away in the cw that was my first choice.

Fast forward two months later, I walk into the BH boutique looking for something else when on a whim, I ask the SA to open the 140cm mousseline drawer. There it was!!!! the cw I wanted all along. Still sleeping in its plastic sleeve and looking pristine. I excitedly asked her to pull it out and quickly inspected it for snags (learned that lesson once already) and saw that it had probably never been tried on and looked perfect. I slipped it over my head and fell in love all over again. But now, I had a dilemma. I already had the blue one and should I really be buying two moussies of the same design? We were remodeling our new house at the time and I was feeling really guilty about spending $1K a piece on scarves. Well, I thought about it for like 2 min. and decided I could not leave it at the boutique. It would haunt me forever so...you know the rest.

So thats my tale and from this experience I learned a few lessons.
#1 - inspect all scarves at the boutique before you bring them home. I'm always reluctant to do this because it makes me look like a freaky obsessive compulsive person but if the scarf was a display one and looks "tried on", do take the time to do this. Especially for CSGMs!
#2 - don't give in to the "it's the last one and you may never find it again" story some SAs will tell you. I think there are multiple rounds of production of a scarf during a season and there's a good chance, that cw will pop up again even if none can be found at the moment
#3 - always ask to look in the drawers for scarves you are looking for. I wasn't even looking for mousselines on the visit I found the cw I wanted, but am so very glad I asked to take a peep.

So now I have two Point d'Orgue moussies and depending on my mood, will actually toggle between them as favorites. I thought the grey coral/red one was my favorite until I wrote this post and took the photos, but then as I put on the blue one, I thought it was more striking than the other one. Go figure! I love them both. Out of curiosity though, which cw do you like better?

And for your viewing pleasure, I took some pics of the two scarves, and the bags I like to carry with them, and a bunch of my bracelets that coordinate with both of the scarves on my piano to showcase the keys in the scarves. My piano is a refurbished oldie from the 1930's with real ivory keys. To me, the sound this baby grand makes sounds like heaven. I marvel each time I sit down and play at how rich it sounds being only a baby grand.

I swear, each time I tie this scarf, a different part of the design shows and it looks different but good!

Thanks for being so patient with me and for reading the whole story (are you still there?) and for waiting so patiently for me to revive this thread again. :hugs:

amazing scarves and a story, I love both colourways....

I was having a similar search for "concerto" in mousseline , not yet finalized, but as I went on with my quest, i found mouselline gavroches, i did not even know they existed in (both "concerto") navy and orange. My husband is a contrabass player, so I love showing the corner with basses, I tie gavroches on my casual bags at work. I on the other hand am an astronomer, so I had a quest for Laboratoire du temps with Big Bang and Moon landing and found a cashmere shawl, and astronomical clock from Prague in 90 silk (Mechanique du Temps), beautiful newer colourway with grey, orange and red. I like to wear them because they each have a story to tell.

I so agree with you.

Not all my H scarves have a story, some are just beauty for beauty's sake. But many many do. Those are the most special ones of all usually. :hbeat:

Hello??? Anybody there? I just got back from a week long trip to Paris with my girlfriend (husbands stayed at home! :ghi5:) and was wondering if anyone was interested to see some of the clothes, jewelry, scarves, and one new bag I bought and also how I'm going to integrate my new purchases into my scarf wardrobe! I didn't go crazy and buy a lot of stuff - I was pretty selective but I'd be happy to share if there's interest in getting this thread going again.
