MYH, I am enjoying this thread SO MUCH! I got behind and it took me 3 days to catch up. I'll try to stay on top of things because there is so much great sharing here! Anyway, my only 140 is a Cliquetis DD in the most luscious cranberry/wine colors. These pix really don't do it justice.

First I just wrap it around my neck and tie loosely in front.
On the purple shirt it's tied in a sailor knot
Another way is to wrap around your neck and then use a wooden ring (thanks, MaiTai!) to make a lowdown V.
Then the classic weave knot. Warm and pretty.
Dear Mosasaurus, I'm thrilled to see these lovely pictures...I remember when you first posted them and they inspired me to track down its twin. It took a year, and remains one of my favorite dip dyes. Thank you so much for posting these beautiful photos again. You look absolutely stunning.

Oh, werner, how fabulous that you tracked this one down! I'm happy to have played a part in inspiring you. Any pix?

I wore this all day yesterday to a number of events. The feel of DDs is so wonderful, especially in large format. My daughter eyed it and said, "Hm. Subtle.":laugh::laugh:

I've been away and I just discovered this thread.......I should be getting ready for work but I've now went most of the morning reading every single post ...........and I don't even own any of the large silks. I've always been little worried that it was too much material. Wearing it as a shawl is easy but I didn't think I've ever master the knots. Your explanations have been wonderful. I think I know what to ask for Christmas this year now.

Thank you MYH for starting this thread and for all the others who have replied.

This is so beautiful!
I agree that the surtient scarves are special...they feel so soft, too.

Thanks dear scarfies on the sweet comments about Session 1. Let's move onto Session 2 using the bias fold as our starting point. In my mind there are two categories of bias fold knots. Those that require a knot in the back of the neck, and those that don't. I use a knot in the back of my neck for the same reason I did it in Session 1 with my cowboy knot. It stops the heavier silk hanging in front of you from becoming too heavy and pulling down due to gravity. Tie the same square knot in your scarf leaving as much room as you would like around your neck. Try to tie this knot so it is neat and streamlined - make it as least bulky as possible. This way, it will be comfortable for you and will not be noticeable to others.

Ok from there, you can do so many knots and there are several ways to wear your scarf. Here are a few examples

Example 1: Tie the two tails together further down your body (leaving a triangle space) in front. Get your pretty smaller scarf rings out and use that instead of a knot. Using the trick of making a knot in back of your neck stops the scarf from tightening up around your throat and making you feel like you're being strangled. I hate that feeling.

Example 2: Bring the two tails forward and just wear it casually. If it's really windy, it might be wise to weave the tails under the scarf part looped around your neck so it stays put a little better.

Example 3: Do the weave knot! Klynneann - here's how I did this. Hope it's clear. Please let me know if you have any questions. I have found if I don't use a knot in back of my neck, the whole thing unravels in minutes unless the weave is right up against your neck. But I don't like the feeling of having scarves tight around my neck. The other way to achieve this look but with a different tying method is MaiTai's hacking knot. But with these giant silks, her hacking knot is not easy to execute. And it will unravel because one side is much heavier than the other. You need a CSGM for the hacking knot.

I just had to jump in MYH to let you know you are BRILLIANT!! I have had very little time to peruse these threads lately, but this thread has become one of my favorites! I struggle with my two 140 silks and now your suggestions have totally changed the way I view them (and wear them of course). In fact all of your advice is so thoughtful and enlightening...thank you for taking the time to share your knowledge and expertise with us. :hugs:

OK, let's continue.

Now you have a small triangle folded and scrunched and are ready to drape this whole thing around your neck. Pick it up carefully and using your best coordination skills, tie a square knot around the back of your neck. You want one tail going one direction and the other tail going the other. If this is really hard for you because there is so much fabric, you can also try just tying the knot while setting the scarf on your floor or bed. Trust me, the hole will be big enough for you to just put it on over your head after you have finished tying the knot.

OK, now just adjust the tails as you like around the front of your body. Voila! All done

Now some variations

Variation 1 - I know many of you like to do this cowboy weave know with your CSGMs. You still can. Just leave the knot in place and do the weave like you normally do.
This is how some of us like to wear our CSGMs

You can do the same with a giant silk

Variation 2 - Bring the tails around front and tie in a knot. To be honest, variation 2 stays put even without the knot in the back of my neck for me because it is nicely balanced. The tails and little knot in the front counterbalance the triangle bit in the front. But if you want to take out an insurance policy on this variation, keep the knot in the back of your neck.

Ok, there you go folks. 3 ways to wear a cowboy knot without slippage or constant adjusting. C'est facile non?

Any questions?

MYH, as I was wearing one of my 140 silks yesterday, and almost dying from strangulation on several occasions, I was reminded of your tying turorial! Came back to check out the steps this morning, and I am SO thankful for the strangulation prevention steps!:smooch: Thanks a million for starting this thread, and taking the time to keep us all from an untimely silky death!

I think I was supposed to post this. My birthday present and newest 140 cm: Les Chemins Secrets 02 petrol/beige/marine. :cloud9: And a couple clics. :graucho:
