Scarves MYH's Scarf Showcase - and philosophical ramblings about how I built my collection

Thanks for your thumbs up Pirula!

All, I do love my 90’s as art more than wearing at times, but I am super comfortable about that. Enjoy the tie it on in quick knot and casually nowadays.

M - your Carre Cube is such a cool colorway. I tried on one that had a knit border and nearly caved on that one.

So here is my moussie JA tied the way I normally wear a 140 mousselibe and typical way I tie a 90 casually. Funny that I am wearing linen in both of these photos. I do wear linen year round practically. And BTW, Am over the 6 decades hill lol.

Yes , you make mousselines look cool and hip , I am in awe!

Ooh Maedi - which new 90cm did you receive?

Thanks!! I do hope this chest of drawers works out.

Thanks for the cheering man!! And for letting me know you enjoy reading this thread.

FF - I think you are being far too generous. It’s kind of you to say it’s a 10 on me but I guess beauty is in the eye of the beholder. I can’t muster up enthusiasm beyond a 6 personally. But I guess we all have our own grading scales.

And you are totally right about how it’s not that easy to find a scarf to wear with all black. It sounds like it should be easy but it’s not. Ugh.

Love your vibrant moussie hon. I’d also like to know how you tied it. You are very good at making them look like cotton candy around your neck. And your 90cm tie...please tell us how you do that as well. Love both these scarves on you.

I guess I’m more of a cheapskate than you ladies!! My 90cms need to earn their keep in my scarf drawer. They’ve got to do double duty as art and scarves lol. That is crazy Hermes is closed on a Saturday in Boston. The only excuse for that is if someone rammed their car through the window last night.
It is the Into the Canadian Wild. I adore the nature scenes and animals and since I live in the Pacific NW, it has special dearness to me.

I wanted to thank you ladies @kathydep @ninakt @momasaurus @Langsam @Genie27 @gracekelly @werner @lanit @FrenchSandra @Maedi @hannahsophia @bobkat1991 @klynneann for your very thoughtful responses to the previous topic I brought up. I really wish we could have further explored the topic and discussed it calmly and maturely. But negative emotions were running just too high from a couple of people (for my liking) and I no longer felt we had the right atmosphere for a good discussion so I decided to just move on. But I wanted to let you know that I did read all your thoughtful responses and appreciate your efforts to engage and participate here.

As a scarf collector/addict, there are just too many places to discover H scarves you don’t currently have, but want or “need”. It’s dangerous out there! Even worse, when you start off, you find out there are decades of scarves you need to revisit because you weren’t around for those seasons. So there are literally thousands of scarves for you to research and many could end up capturing your heart. It could be that the scarf has a little dog in it looks just like your beloved pooch or the scarf theme is something near and dear to your heart. It could also be something as simple as a scarf design and colorway being totally you! I’m sure you are all familiar with this feeling.

But let me tell you the most dangerous place to discover scarves....it’s your scarf friend’s house. Not only do you get to see it in person, he or she will even let you try it on!! C’mon, it’s like playing with fire. You actually have it in your hands or around your neck and you get to see if it works for you. So this has happened to me many times. Sigh. I discovered things I did not even know I wanted but ended up “needing”.

One incident actually resulted in me finding the scarf. Actually, my friend found the scarf for me (thank you doll!) And another incident still has me searching for the scarf that she has!! Ugh! With this second friend, I even thought I was safe before I went to her house! She can perhaps be described as a spunky petite blonde and I thought all her scarf cws would not suit me. She looks great in pastels whereas I do not. So yes, predictably, she did have lots of lavenders, light blues, pinks and light greens. And I was excited to see her collection because it’s always so fun to see a scarf design you admire in a cw you would never have chosen for yourself. But then, she did have a few bold cws and I fell in deep love with one in particular. So there is still a search party out for that one.

Luckily, with another friend, she ended up locating the scarf for me. If you’ve ever visited a scarf friend or if they have ever visited you, I’m sure you’ll know the first thing that happens is you both run to their scarf closet and silks start flying. Stories get told about how they acquired each scarf (we all seem to remember the entire story about each scarf even if there are close to 100 scarves), scarves get modeled and hours pass by in a flash. It’s really the best time. I highly recommend it. So this scarf my friend had, I didn’t even know it was in her collection. Through purseforum and instagram, we have a pretty good idea of each other’s inventory but I didn’t know this beauty was lurking in her collection. And worse yet, it’s a design I adore. I don’t really relate to the scarf theme but I love the design. I have two 140cm silks, two 90cms, one maxitwilly in this design and would probably happily buy more if I saw more cws I loved. And to really finish me off, this scarf cw matches 5 H bags I have. Rouge grenat Pico, Raisin B, Black K, Black Kellycut, and Malachite k28. If you know me well, you’ll know that I’m a huge sucker for scarves that match my bags. So I tried it on, loved it (as I suspected I would) because of all the beautiful jewel tones and then the search began. We immediately checked evilbay and there was actually one listed but the seller wanted $999 USD !! For a 90cm silk. Really? My friend was even so kind as to message them and ask her if they would reconsider their price but the seller said it was a “rare” scarf. Funny enough, I just checked to see if it’s still there and the price has now dropped to $799.99. LOL. What a steal...Oh I haven’t even mentioned what scarf I’m talking about have I? Sorry....it’s Astrologie Nouvelle. I know!! All this fuss over AN. See this is what happens to those of us obsessed with H scarves.

So... of course I couldn’t forget about it and still had my heart set on finding it. Then one day, months later, she texts me and says she just saw on a scarf reseller email blast the Astrologie Nouvelle I’m looking for. :yahoo: So I email him and hope and pray he is not the $999 seller on ebay and luckily he wasn’t. His price was actually very reasonable and the scarf was in new condition. So within days this beautiful scarf was in my hands and I was a happy camper.

I’ll probably post more pics tomorrow because the light is bad here now, but here are some. I’m sorry for the black bars on the top and bottom of my photos...I typically take square pics so these bars end up in my photos. Just try to ignore them.

First, my Astrologie Nouvelle collection.

As I started reading I had a feeling it would be AN , crazy how well it ties and I'd never have looked twice until I saw it here back when you first showed it.
Love the rich colours here..

So beautiful with your VCA and malachite H.

Don't you just love when one scarf goes with multiple bags? I'm glad you found this one. It's particularly stunning with malachite.

I like the 140 silk in the upper right corner of your photo. So sad that I missed that one.

LOL. I’m starting to feel so predictable with my AN love. Hahaha. I don’t really hear from others that it’s a favorite of theirs. So I thought I was the only one. I do think that the original Astrologie design was a major classic because I see tons of them on evilbay. So I figured there were many in circulation. But I did find it interesting that the new Hermes perfume Twilly uses the AN design on the box and Hermes did do a twilly in that design too this past season. Although I suspect it was more of a promotional marketing/sales launch for the perfume.
So beautiful with your VCA and malachite H.
Thank you! I also have a malachite VCA pendant so I have doubled down on green.

My friend T also fell in love with the blue/purple/white cw of AN in my 140cm silk. She did end up finding it so I think they are out there. I will keep an eye out for you too.

Here are some more pics of the Astrologie Nouvelle. It is a bold scarf. Almost bordering on something Versace would make lol!! So it’s not a good scarf to wear when you want to be low key and not stand out. There is some bright mint in this scarf that scares me from time to time but it’s actually what makes the scarf special. The totally unexpected mix of jewel tones such as ruby, emerald, deep purple, black & navy and then all of a sudden....Mint!! Whoa. It’s crazy.

I'm loving the second knot with your v necks.

Sale Goggles. As much as we would all like to admit we don’t wear them, I think we do. Or at least I do! The next scarf I’m going to show is a good example of this. I would never have purchased this scarf at full price. But at the SF H sale this year, I thought it was worth the sale price. I’ve always told myself, if I won’t pay full price for a scarf, then I shouldn’t even buy it at the sale price. I guess I break my own rules!

. For some reason, I feel like if something is going to cost $400, it better be labor intensive to make! I want to get my monies worth! When I hear a scarf has 20 or more screens in it, it actually makes me want to buy it more. .

. I know that. On a scale of 1-10, it’s probably a 6. But I do feel like it does have a place in my collection when I want to wear a scarf but be low key. I’ve actually noticed I’ve started collecting more of these “low key” scarves recently.

Hi MYH! Happy new year! Glad you're back on your great thread. Your thoughts on “scarf-aging” is quite on point. I frequently tie, re-tie, and then abandon the effort. Something just isnt right. Now i can go reassess, whether it’s color, scale, stiffness ...I like your 1-10 scale. I think this will help “reason out” why some work and some don’t. The 140 silks just are too much scarf for me; allergic to cashmere (gasp) so no comment there. Love the 45’s lately..particularly tying2 complementary patterns ..plus it’s less fabric around the neck for my N. CA climate! I also bought a few things at the sale and have yet to wear it (i think it might be the small scale print). I know many are wild for Annie Faivre, but they are too busy on me. And i agree on the more screens, the more desirable..but I find that I am liking the neutrals the best. Too much color and I start to look pretty busy! But on this new years eve, I resolve to to reassess and grade my scarf collection a la your 1-10 scale. :drinks:Adore your new constance!! What a great color. I am partial to all shades of grey! Finally...erm :whut: the B is still a nice shelf decoration (omg) but will be pulled out for 2018!

Well, I can agree with you MYH. I love the astrologie nouvelle...but in the emerald green-ish color blend. I wish I’d gotten that. I have never seen it on the resale market and am hoping it will show up at the H sale this coming summer (assuming it will come to SF again..please) Anyway, love how you tied it in the 3rd pix above.

MYH,

I understand you want to move on, but I really want to say you brought up a very interesting subject. I have never thought about the aging factor. I find it's fascinating and inspirational to learn a new and different perspective from people like you, regardless if I agree with the view or not. I believe the power of diversity including diversified opinions and views. We don't have to always see each other eye to eye, right? In addition, you are being very analytical when presenting your opinion, which I appreciate and enjoy reading very much.

I have been collecting H scarves/shawls for some years. I feel shameful to say I have 67 of 90 silk, 29 of cashmere shawls and 8 of 140 silk. I have a few maxi twillies and 70s etc. here there, but as you can tell, 90 silk accounts for majority of my collection.

90 silk, to me, has been more like "formal" or "casual" depending on how it's tied and paired with clothes. So your analysis is very thought provoking and interesting. I do share same view with you and several ladies here that I found CSGM is easier to wear, especially in cold climate. I start to wear CSGMs in October all the way to May and use 90s less and less.

Now I try to be very disciplined when it comes to purchasing 90s. Just like you, if it's on sale, I loosen the purse strings more buying 90s and even venturing into the colors or the prints that I wouldn't buy at full price. One example is Hermes Sports, as I am not into graphic and abstract prints. The other example is Metamorphoses par Hermes Paris. Some may find that print is creepy. After I bought it on sale, I find it very wearable.

Anyway, thank you for sharing your thought. I am glad there is a community like TPF where we can exchange information, ideas and share our passion about beautiful things. Call me shallow, I don't care, giggles …………
