Sale Goggles. As much as we would all like to admit we don’t wear them, I think we do. Or at least I do! The next scarf I’m going to show is a good example of this. I would never have purchased this scarf at full price. But at the SF H sale this year, I thought it was worth the sale price. I’ve always told myself, if I won’t pay full price for a scarf, then I shouldn’t even buy it at the sale price. I guess I break my own rules!

I bought it mid-year and have seriously not even worn it until yesterday. :facepalm:I opened my scarf drawer yesterday morning and was pondering my choices. I had on an all black outfit because I was being super lazy. Black cashmere sweater, black pants, black shoes, black and grey coat, and black bag. Now you would think that almost any scarf would match an all black outfit, but actually I’m really picky about what I wear with an all black outfit. I don’t think that all scarves work with an all black outfit. I like when the scarf itself has a little bit of black in it too but does not have a black hem or a black border. If it has a black hem or black border, it gets lost against a black top and loses its impact. It was also one of those days where I didn’t want to wear a super bright scarf either because I just felt like being low key.

So like a ouija board game, my hand floated over my scarves and the universe directed me to this one!! Carre Cube. Yeah, it was pretty arbitrary! But I decided to give it a try because there is some black in the cw and I felt like it could work with my all black outfit. Also DH and I were going to a modern art museum and it kind of seemed on theme. LOL. Sorry for the wrinkles in this scarf but I did not feel like pulling out the ironing board before I took the pic and I did wear it all day.

So this is a good example of a scarf I felt was worth the sale price, but not the full price. It fits some of my criteria for scarves I tend to like. Mid-large scale design. Check! Modern and abstract print. Check! So that’s about all it has going for it!!

The negatives for me about this scarf are that it’s a 90cm. I kind of have a hard time with this size because I find it hard to style casually. The colors in it are few and very simple and maybe even a bit weird. Mustard, colvert, grey, black, bright blue and white. There are only 5 colors in this scarf. OK 6 if you count white. For some reason, I feel like if something is going to cost $400, it better be labor intensive to make! I want to get my monies worth! When I hear a scarf has 20 or more screens in it, it actually makes me want to buy it more. AND, the border is a bright blue that seems kind of out of place to my eye. I’ve seen Hermes do this many times with scarf designs. The border will be a bright acid green or bright orange but does not relate to any of the colors inside the scarf. I typically don’t like that but in this case, the blue is a rather gorgeous shade of blue So I let it go.

The way I wore it yesterday was bias fold, then the two tails through a tube-like scarf ring with one tail thrown over my shoulder hanging in front and the other tail hanging down my back. I was wearing a v neck sweater and I kind of like it when a little skin is shown between the scarf and v neck of the sweater. I debated about a pendant necklace or no pendant necklace and in the end decided no necklace. It did stay put pretty well throughout the day but I noticed that when I bent over to pick something up, the tail in back tended to want to come forward. But no problem! I would just toss it back again. I do hate knots I have to fidget with but since it didn’t involve retying the scarf, I was ok with that.

Here is my other favorite way of tying scarves. I’m not sure of it’s official name, but I call it the asymmetric cowboy knot.

Now for some strange reason, I don’t like this scarf tied as a regular cowboy. I think the design is not interesting enough to pull this off.

And since mustard is the unusual color in this scarf, I decided to highlight it with some accessories.

Do any of you have carre cube? Do you love yours or does it sit in your scarf drawer? I’ve decided to give this one a fair shake. It’s never going to be one of the favorites in my collection. I know that. On a scale of 1-10, it’s probably a 6. But I do feel like it does have a place in my collection when I want to wear a scarf but be low key. I’ve actually noticed I’ve started collecting more of these “low key” scarves recently.

Love the asymmetrical cowboy knot! Can’t wait to see your new scarf storage.

Thanks Hannasophia! It’s a little hard to get the hang of initially, but with more practice, it becomes really easy.

I’m actually quite nervous about the scarf chest of drawers I purchased. I splurged on it and it’s actually a chest wrapped in leather with 4 shallow drawers. I think the drawers will be perfect to display my scarves (like at the boutique) but I’m worried about the leather color I chose. The color samples they showed me were tiny little leather squares which made it hard to visualize the whole thing. I tried to choose a neutral that’s similar to gris perle/gris Tourterelle but I have no clue if I chose correctly. And there are absolutely no refunds with this manufacturer. It’s a custom order so I have to live with it.

Sounds heavenly! I bet it will be perfect.

Apologies for delurking but I can not wait to see your new storage chest! Scarf storage is hard to find the right fit. Shallow drawers seem to be impossible to find. BTW I love your thread! :flowers:

I love delurkers! Thanks for joining us and thank you for letting me know you enjoy this thread.

You all are getting me even more excited about my scarf chest. Here’s a little more about it. It’s from Poltrona Frau and as I said, it’s completely wrapped in leather except for the pulls and legs, and the inside drawers are lined/covered in linen so I don’t believe I will need to line the drawers. I think I chose a Gris Perle color but I can’t remember now. It was so long ago. 6 mos to be exact. I’m also hoping there will be room for my Hermes costume jewelry in this chest too. I will take lots of pics when it finally arrives.

Hi Ladybaga! So nice of you to stop by. The lighting is bad here since it’s dark so I hope you don’t mind if I steer you to an old instructional post of mine. I hope this link works. It’s actually post #145. This is my go-to knot when I don’t know what to do with my 90cms.
https://forum.purseblog.com/threads/how-to-wear-a-90cm-carre-silk-twill-casually.883586/page-10

MaiTai does have an instructional video called the asymmetric shoulder wrap but in her video, she uses a scarf ring and ties a small knot with small tails at the end which leaves way more material around the shoulders. I tie the knot with bigger tails and no scarf ring so it kind of becomes more of a cowboy knot. Also, she starts with the scarf around her shoulders where I prefer to just fold a rectangle in front of me on my bed. Once I pinch the opposite corners, I hold onto the scarf and flip it over my head. Her way and my way give the same results.

Give it a shot and if you still want me to post instructions, I will do it tomorrow.

Thank you for the post reference! I am so excited to try this.

All I see is a beautiful woman with a piece of art around his neck. And of course have some regrets because I didn't buy Dans un jardin anglais in black too. For me 90 is the format and the material that shows the art of Hermes the best, even if I own, love and wear the other formats, materials. Looking old, classical, is not a problem for me (even if I would not wear head scarf that is just ugly on me), so, my wallet is not safe this season :graucho:
Love what you said, especially how the 90s is the format to show the art the best. I received a 90 cm scarf today and am mesmerized by the design, the colors, nuances and the silk.

This looks great and very elegant. How cool that the drawers are lined in linen.

I find the Carré Cube sensational on you , I'd give it a full 10 seeing it on this colour way a,nd worn with all black.
Then again I love geometric or abstract designs , mustard is one of my fave colours and I also love a wacky out of sync hem . The colour combination is very chic IMO
I'm often in all black and agree finding the right scarf isn't as easy as you'd think, I usually use a pearly grey Bateau Fleuri.

However I find most of my CSGMs look great with black .
Another reason the 90cm get less mileage.

Thank you klynnean, gracekelly, FrenchSandra, momasaurus, and Maedi for your lovely compliments. Truth be told, my airs at being insouciant are really more being lazy, or late more like. I am in a hurry because I overslept as usual and "chuck the thing on" and tie it as best I can. I rarely have time to fuss with it and it's always the worse for fussing. I could never give up 90s, they're the most versatile format as far as I am concerned, but do agree that they are also the most traditional, and classic, with whatever aging connotations those words carry. I also agree that the women here have style far beyond average and we just rock these things and that is all there is to it.

I would have said lanit looks great in everything, including all her 90s.

I agree that things like height and outfits make a big difference.

Dear frou frou, I would have thought that anything with this much green in it would have been lovely with your coloring. It's hard to tell from this picture, but I will agree that this doesn't give you the glow that you get when you wear your gorgeous orange scarves, or your red Turandot, or your pumpkins, or your gorgeous brown Semelles. I see it. I can't put my finger on it, but I see it. It's not bad, by any means, but it's no where near close to any of those.

PS: I think LInda Rodin rocks too!
Thanks for your thumbs up Pirula!

All, I do love my 90’s as art more than wearing at times, but I am super comfortable about that. Enjoy the tie it on in quick knot and casually nowadays.

M - your Carre Cube is such a cool colorway. I tried on one that had a knit border and nearly caved on that one.

So here is my moussie JA tied the way I normally wear a 140 mousselibe and typical way I tie a 90 casually. Funny that I am wearing linen in both of these photos. I do wear linen year round practically. And BTW, Am over the 6 decades hill lol.

Lanit, as always you struck the nail on the head. I love the 90s for their artistic value. I do not mind throwing them on now and then. But the larger formats are easier for me to wear.

Your climate is warmer than mine. All I can think of is cashmeres at the moment. It’s below zero. Moussies and 90s are my summer staples. 70s are like gavtoches for the hottest days.

I love how you tied the jardin moussie. Can you tell me how you did it?

Just pouting: I’m in Boston with extra time to spare today and Hermes is closed!!! On a Saturday!!! Grrrr! I wanted to look for a new cashmere. [emoji849]

Ooh Maedi - which new 90cm did you receive?

Thanks!! I do hope this chest of drawers works out.

Can't wait for the chest to arrive! And yay! The thread is back :yahoo:

FF - I think you are being far too generous. It’s kind of you to say it’s a 10 on me but I guess beauty is in the eye of the beholder. I can’t muster up enthusiasm beyond a 6 personally. But I guess we all have our own grading scales.

And you are totally right about how it’s not that easy to find a scarf to wear with all black. It sounds like it should be easy but it’s not. Ugh.

Thanks for your thumbs up Pirula!

Love your vibrant moussie hon. I’d also like to know how you tied it. You are very good at making them look like cotton candy around your neck. And your 90cm tie...please tell us how you do that as well. Love both these scarves on you.

I guess I’m more of a cheapskate than you ladies!! My 90cms need to earn their keep in my scarf drawer. They’ve got to do double duty as art and scarves lol. That is crazy Hermes is closed on a Saturday in Boston. The only excuse for that is if someone rammed their car through the window last night.
