Sale Goggles. As much as we would all like to admit we don’t wear them, I think we do. Or at least I do! The next scarf I’m going to show is a good example of this. I would never have purchased this scarf at full price. But at the SF H sale this year, I thought it was worth the sale price. I’ve always told myself, if I won’t pay full price for a scarf, then I shouldn’t even buy it at the sale price. I guess I break my own rules!
I bought it mid-year and have seriously not even worn it until yesterday.I opened my scarf drawer yesterday morning and was pondering my choices. I had on an all black outfit because I was being super lazy. Black cashmere sweater, black pants, black shoes, black and grey coat, and black bag. Now you would think that almost any scarf would match an all black outfit, but actually I’m really picky about what I wear with an all black outfit. I don’t think that all scarves work with an all black outfit. I like when the scarf itself has a little bit of black in it too but does not have a black hem or a black border. If it has a black hem or black border, it gets lost against a black top and loses its impact. It was also one of those days where I didn’t want to wear a super bright scarf either because I just felt like being low key.
So like a ouija board game, my hand floated over my scarves and the universe directed me to this one!! Carre Cube. Yeah, it was pretty arbitrary! But I decided to give it a try because there is some black in the cw and I felt like it could work with my all black outfit. Also DH and I were going to a modern art museum and it kind of seemed on theme. LOL. Sorry for the wrinkles in this scarf but I did not feel like pulling out the ironing board before I took the pic and I did wear it all day.

So this is a good example of a scarf I felt was worth the sale price, but not the full price. It fits some of my criteria for scarves I tend to like. Mid-large scale design. Check! Modern and abstract print. Check! So that’s about all it has going for it!!
The negatives for me about this scarf are that it’s a 90cm. I kind of have a hard time with this size because I find it hard to style casually. The colors in it are few and very simple and maybe even a bit weird. Mustard, colvert, grey, black, bright blue and white. There are only 5 colors in this scarf. OK 6 if you count white. For some reason, I feel like if something is going to cost $400, it better be labor intensive to make! I want to get my monies worth! When I hear a scarf has 20 or more screens in it, it actually makes me want to buy it more.AND, the border is a bright blue that seems kind of out of place to my eye. I’ve seen Hermes do this many times with scarf designs. The border will be a bright acid green or bright orange but does not relate to any of the colors inside the scarf. I typically don’t like that but in this case, the blue is a rather gorgeous shade of blue So I let it go.
The way I wore it yesterday was bias fold, then the two tails through a tube-like scarf ring with one tail thrown over my shoulder hanging in front and the other tail hanging down my back. I was wearing a v neck sweater and I kind of like it when a little skin is shown between the scarf and v neck of the sweater. I debated about a pendant necklace or no pendant necklace and in the end decided no necklace. It did stay put pretty well throughout the day but I noticed that when I bent over to pick something up, the tail in back tended to want to come forward. But no problem! I would just toss it back again. I do hate knots I have to fidget with but since it didn’t involve retying the scarf, I was ok with that.

Here is my other favorite way of tying scarves. I’m not sure of it’s official name, but I call it the asymmetric cowboy knot.

Now for some strange reason, I don’t like this scarf tied as a regular cowboy. I think the design is not interesting enough to pull this off.

And since mustard is the unusual color in this scarf, I decided to highlight it with some accessories.

Do any of you have carre cube? Do you love yours or does it sit in your scarf drawer? I’ve decided to give this one a fair shake. It’s never going to be one of the favorites in my collection. I know that. On a scale of 1-10, it’s probably a 6. But I do feel like it does have a place in my collection when I want to wear a scarf but be low key. I’ve actually noticed I’ve started collecting more of these “low key” scarves recently.
Love the asymmetrical cowboy knot! Can’t wait to see your new scarf storage.
