DH has finally realized that jewelry is pretty much what I always want.
If there's not a 'big enough' occasion/event we just combine them to make one! :D
For example, when I decide I want a new piece I start gently letting him know and we may combine Mother's Day, Anniversary and Valentine's Day together for one big honkin' gift since they're all within a couple of months of each other. That way DH isn't pressured to come up w/ a different gift for each and I ultimately get what I want.
Oooh! Thats what DH and I agree on too. Normally its my birthday, christmas and our anniversary combined since they're all on the month of december:graucho:

OOooohhh, the overwhelming choice that is around these days can make it quite difficult to choose, and you can get quite overwrought with wanting to get it just right as it will be an expensive mistake if you end up,after a couple of weeks, just liking it and not loving it!!!

In this instance why not buy a couple of fakes, road test them for a bit, thats the best way of making an informed decsion,by wearing it and if you still adore it in a couple of weeks, then get the real thing and give the fakes away to someone who would have a bit of fun with them. Then there is no huge loss and you give a freind quite a pretty present.

I'm doing at the mo with a solitare pendant, and I'm glad I chose this option as I am still a bit undecided after three weeks! And the size of stone I want would be between 1ct and 1.50 ct,it would be a costly mistake!!!!

So true!! OMG I wish I'd done this. I wasted so much $$$ on indecision(a round then an oval, then a chunky eternity,..now I want an EC or Rectangular cushion solitaire and a thin microset eternity). arrrgh!

This is one type of purchase where you want to be like 99 percent sure that this is total 'love'.

ITA! had my ER re-set like 3x:nuts: but I'm not 100% happy with it still. I might just end up setting my ER stone into a solitaire pendant and just wait for my dream 2 ct princess cut or marquise ER in the future:girlsigh:

LOL! That's just what I did... reset my ER several times(Tiff style, Alex Sepkus, halo) then I gave up & I made 2ctw stud earrings(had to get another rb for a mate) from my first round brilliant ER.

Made a pendant from the second 'ER' oval.

I later lost one earring but didn't re-buy with the insurance money since I realized I didn't even like the studs that much(even though they're supposed to be jewelery 'essentials'..my face it's too fat or something:laugh: so they don't suit me).

I'm going to make do w/the eternity until my dream ring. I really wish we'd bought an eternity(but a thinner one) in the first place. We'd be at least half way to my ideal ring by now in savings. Oh well.:shrugs:

LOL :roflmfao: It never ends!!! sigh! Now you're making me re-think my 1.5 ctw stud earrings!!! LOL And I wish I knew more about diamonds back then before I got engaged and could have chosen the marquise instead LOL I'm so crazy!!!:p

I have to concur! LOL!
I upgraded my 1cttw stud to 2 cttw studs earlier this year and I'm already hoping to persuade DH to upgrade them again!:shame: It's actually not too bad, I'd like to go from 2 cttw to 3, that's only .5 pt per ear! :p

LOLOLOLOLOLOLOL!!! :roflmfao::roflmfao: My DH used to complain about me lurking through the bag forums....and now he's like :push: :cursing:after I started spending even more time in the jewelry forum and hinting about a diamond upgrade!!! He says "I'LD RATHER YOU GO BACK TO THAT DARN LV FORUM"!!! LOL

Annie, I just moved those up to my 2nd holes.
This time we're trading in my whole set, we're using the same broker so it's easy for us to do that.

I'm weird I guess, I know a lot of people carry a ton of sentimental value in their e-ring, but the stone isn't symbolic to me so I don't mind trading it up.

OMG i am luvin this thread i though id haave a hard time finding a reference ring for wht i want but this is soo cool!!

as for me id hate to have a simple solitare ring -

heres what id love ..

the diamond would have to be atleast 2 carats -

Here are some styles that I think are really pretty.

A large emerald cuts with side bags like this one, but with longer, more slender baguettes.

This is also a great setting for step cut stones.

A nicely shaped cushion w/ side bags is equally as beautiful, I think.

Split shanks like this one are gorgeous and look great with many different cuts of diaomond (round and asscher work best I think) (Daniel K makes a nice one too)

This is a nice way to spice up a simple solitaire. The little diamonds around the setting are so beautiful and add a really nice detail. Tons of designers make this sort of style, Mark Patterson, Daniel K (Rose Bud setting is great) to name two.

Rose Bud setting (from the top, you do not see the side detail so there is no "halo" around the center stone)
