thanks Lola! Wish DH liked it:blah:
He called our broker and told me to expect some Fed-Ex's soon, I wonder if it's loose stones or set on little bands{?}

Did you get the other stones to look at?? I kinda think you should focus on the stone and worry about the setting later. Personally one of my favorite looks with a large stone is just a simple eternity band type setting to really exhibit the beauty of the center stone. I prefer an emerald, ascher, or cushion cut stones but a friend of mine had gotten a beautiful round 3ct and just had that simple eternity band setting and matching eternity wedding band and it was perfect.

ITA Lola!!! I also prefer the eternity setting. Thats coming from someone who's had her ER re-set like 3x :nuts: and now I realized that simpler the better, with much more focus on the stone:tup:

Yeah, the funny thing is I'm not a big diamond kinda girl myself but I do appreciate them on other people....whenever I see that simple style like my friend had I just think it's beautiful, I say had b/c she is now divorced....

OK, so after obsessing and Googling and filing into/out of every local jewelry store I am feeling rushed and overwhelmed and it's making me sad instead of excited :cry:
I think I'm going to take DH up on his offer to acquire the solitaire we want and have it mounted on a basic plat band for now.

swanky, love, i think that's a fabulous idea -- this should be pure joy, not a chore. plus, this way you'll have great fun picking the center stone and receiving the new ring in a simple setting, and then when you've done some more thinking on how to set it you'll have a second big event when it's re-set!

he suggested we get the diamond and put it on a platinum band until we find the perfect setting. Would you guys do that? ... If we're not simultaneously spending $5k or more on just the setting, perhaps I could get a larger stone

I'm late in replying to this, but I would go for it and choose the stone and put it in a solitaire setting. I think that sounds like a great idea. It will let you "get to know" the stone for a while too, and that might help you choose a setting later. Plus, your idea of being able to get a larger stone b/c you would be postponing purchasing the setting is a good one! Stretch out the expense... :smile1:

Can't wait to see photos of what you choose!!

my boyfriend and i just started looking at rings, and *gasp* he already knows more about them than i do. for instance, i keep looking at this "square" cut that he keeps saying is called a "princess cut," but he tells me that the "round" cut is more popular. i'm starting to research this more because i want to pick out something i'll really love for ages, or at least point my boyfriend in the right direction, but i feel completely clueless. what kind of cuts/settings/anything! do you guys have, or wish you had?

TIA!

Hey gals!
Post pictures of your dream engagement ring! Or just describe it if it doesn't exist yet. :) What about it makes it perfect to you?
If you already have one and it's exactly what you could ever wish for, show it off!

Mine is pretty simple. I want an emerald cut blue sapphire set in platinum with 4 double prongs (they look like quotation marks). I'm not sure how big of a stone I want, but I know I want the band to be on the plainer side, since a whole lot of bling doesn't look the best on me. I'll find a picture soon!

I would love to have an Asscher cut diamond , haven't even thought about what color or size, Sigh, it is such a gorgeous cut. Maybe I'll ask DH for our 25th anniversary (3 more years to save up LOL)
