LV QUALITY CONTROL --- WHAT IS GOING ON??

Have you seen the “ Is anyone embarrassed to carry LV thread”? I just read the last couple pages and my head is spinning!
I just came from that one.

I used to frequent TPF so much but it feels 95% insufferable these days.

Everything is like...
LV quality sucks
or
Which canvas speedy should I buy
or
Is this stitch at the wrong angle?

Yeah, but the idea still applies regardless of how much the items cost. Remember that a $5 sandwich IS a luxury to some people, so any business needs to show its items in the best light possible.

I don't know if businesses still do this, but when I was growing up there was always fine print indicating that items would vary from the way they appeared in the photograph. That should be common sense by now for just about anybody who buys things that they've seen pictured in marketing materials.

If someone is upset because they spent a lot of money on something they ordered off a website and it turned out to not be as nice as how it was pictured, then maybe they shouldn't spend so much on items that they haven't had a chance to see in person.

But isn‘t the attention to detail and superior quality what made labels like LV popular in the first place? In my opinion luxury comes down to quality and functionality. They still advertise their craftmanship, you pay for that and therefore the customer should rightfully expect to receive an item that lasts longer than 6 months.

I don't think that referencing Louis Vuitton's advertising makes for a strong argument, as they have had ads of theirs banned in the past for false advertising of how their goods are created.

I just got a bad experience from LV Sydney earlier. I bought the zippy wallet in DE last 09 Aug and when I'm trying to put my things, I noticed that the wallet is not aligned (the left side corner is higher than the right side and it is in reverse on the other corner). I've just got a time to return it earlier and they don't want to exchange it saying that I already used it (as I have tried to put my cards on the cardholder and it quite stretched) and saying they wouldn't be able to sell it again. I told them how can you sell an item which was already returned due to defect? So i talked to the manager and she said the same thing. I still insist that i need to have it exchanged that clearly there's a defect and the rude manager just said, you know what I think our wallet is not for you and will just give you a refund and instructed the SA and just walked away from me! She's so rude! I was supposed to get a higher price LV wallet but didn't pushed thru with it as I was really disappointed on how they treated me.

Oh no! I’m so sorry to hear that. Was it the George street store? That is not a nice way to treat someone, especially since all you wanted was an exchange. You didnt say you wanted a refund. Hope your Sunday turns out better today!

Louis Vuitton products (apart from hardsided luggage) have been mass-manufactured since the 1970s, and to an even higher level since the early 1990s after Arnault took control of the company. Problems are not new. They have always existed. Like with every other brand. In my experience, the quality is really good and the items will last about a decade with regular use. Of course, things start to look used... as we use them.

Just a couple of weeks ago, the glazing on the bandoulière strap of my Cabas V from 2015 started softening and stained the lining of the bag where it was stored. I took the bag to a boutique and they sent it for repair, free of charge (new lining and new strap). That’s what I love most about LV: their excellent customer service.

When I read this thread and others, I am amazed that people think a bag should be exchanged after years of use, LOL. I do agree that LV customer service is top-notch, though. I was able to exchange the Melie after 3 months of use because of the dreaded holes in the corners.

Having said that, my other love for years was Balenciaga. With that company, you are on your own. The handles will darken and the corners will scuff if you look at them wrong, lol. But because we loved the brand, most of us learned how to repair the bags. I can edge coat with the best of them! And some people I know have even re-laced the handles :)

Another relatively new concept, in my opinion, is not liking patina on a bag that is made to patina. Some of the things that people put on their bags is horrifying to me, LOL.

I do not say this to minimize what could be real quality issues, since I have been there. But, it has not been my experience that any other company will take care of you the way LV does.

Very well said!, I'm always surprised when people expect items to not show any wear and tear after years of USING them...like it's some sort of defect. LOL

In terms of store service/experience it varies from locations and also SAs and even management. I recently had a bad experience with a less than 1 year old bag that developed waves in the canvas. When I went to the store I was literally being persuaded that what happened was normal wear and tear to the point that a 2nd SA was invited to the conversation to tell me that it is normal. From what I heard there are multiple cases here in country that this what happens when you try to consult a defect which made me believe that this is their strategy here, but there are some that luckily don't have to go thru it.

But I insisted that something be done and I'm not willing to take it as it is and it was consulted to repair specialist. I was given a response turnaround time of 1 week, I followed up after 2.5 weeks up to 1 month and got no reply from the SA. I thought at that point that they might have not done something at all and I'm debating on letting it pass or go back and escalate to a manager.

Luckily after almost 2 months they got back to me and said that the item is for replacement. I did get a favorable result at my end but what left me a bad taste is that there are no replies whatsoever when I followed up, I changed work location and cannot drop by the store easily. I should have called but at that point as I was just devastated.

Overall the brand as a whole, I think it has good customer service (but my opinion was definitely affected by the recent outcome), what is super variable is store experience. How I wish everything will be standard but of course there is a concept of VICs and all and this is not a perfect world and that is asking too much at my end. I'm still on the fence of deciding if I'll continue buying with them or not. Also this might have been a lesson learned for me on how to deal with it in case I will be faced by the situation again.

In terms of quality, I cannot comment on it just yet since it was only over a year since I started buying from the brand. But I can see what others are mentioning of items being sold which are not 'perfect' and we need to be diligent on inspecting them prior to using them to prevent dealing with exchanging them, but it would be nice if the store persons will handle our inquiries in a friendly and professional way.

Some people should just shrink-wrap their bags like how they do in Asia for their TV remotes.
