This is the most handy thread for people w tiny wrists:tup: previously looked this up when i was looking into a 5 motif bracelet last year and sure enough a few months ago, the estimations on here were right! i needed 8 links removed. well, i’ve been struggling with putting it on by myself without help and looked up this thread last night. found the paper clip video trick above, works like a charm! loving my bracelet so much:smile:View attachment 5144821
omg i need to try the paper clip trick! I also had 8 links removed and I can't get my bracelet on haha and don't want to ask my man because he'll just shake his head and ask why I spent so much money on something I can't even put on by myself

By the way, after using the paperclip trick for a while, I no longer need it.
I have an easier way to put my bracelet on, but it requires steady hands.

Grab your clasp and open it as if you were ready to hook it through the loop.
Keep it fully opened and don't allow it to close.
Gently wrap your bracelet OVER your wrist holding the opened clasp away from your body.
Wrap it around (slooowly) until the clasp comes full circle around the loop (practice... your bracelet will probably fall off the first few times... practice keeping the arm with the bracelet steady, that's the trick so the bracelet just lays there on your wrist).
With your bracelet now hanging on your wrist, bring the open clasp up to the loop and hook it through.

It works really great for me, and actually easier than the paper clip trick.

This is how I do mine too. My bracelet is loose so not sure if that makes it easier.

I plan on getting the onyx bracelet but I can’t decide what to do with the sizing. I already have a MOP bracelet that I apparently removed four links (so there is three instead of the original four in between each motif). I hardly wear that bracelet because I still find it too big and it tangles up with my Cartier bracelets. My dilemma is I want to wear this also as a necklace, but if I remove links it will be too small and it’ll only be a bracelet then. Here are my options:

1.Not shorten: I am thinking I could either twist the links (but that sounds like a pain and probably won’t last) or possibly let a motif dangle (not sure if I have space to do so but I suspect yes). This is the ideal length to double as a necklace.

OR

2. Take out four links, like my MOP bracelet. I would find it too long but at least it could be worn as a necklace, albeit a shorter one.

OR

3.Take out six or eight links, but this would make it a bracelet only as it would be too small as a necklace. It would fit snugly around my wrist.

I’d like your help as ideally I can figure this out before I go to the boutique so if I need to size it, I can do it when I purchase it.

Thanks…I am really torn about what to do.

I think its maybe best to use it as a bracelet and get the links taken out to fit properly. Taking only a few links out like your MOP will not really help you to wear it as a bracelet as you already don't like wearing the MOP as it is; never mind having two bracelets like that. It also won't really help to serve as an ideally fitting necklace. I would suggest getting a tiny extender (you can get inch inch extenders or longer ones) and use that on the bracelets to add length to the shortened bracelets but I fear doing that will mean there are all these different clasps which can look unappealing unless they are hidden.

My SA really discourages the twisting as, while its a short term fix, doing that continually over a longer term may add unnecessary pressure on angles of the links which they were not intended to be worn to do. Dangling is not ideal either as the motif is clanking on everything but if you think it is something you're ok with then that would be the option. If you do a little bit of this modification and a little bit of that modification you can likely get by and wear it both as a bracelet and necklace but I don't know if you would really feel happy/satisfied in the end. Its better to be "satisfied" in one way (bracelet on wrist) than "ok" with multiple uses (a bracelet that doesn't fit comfortably, a necklace that isn't quite to your liking, etc).

Thank you so much for your detailed reply!! Your logic makes a lot of sense…maybe I will have to just save up for a 10-motif if I still want the necklace version.

I’ve doubled up one of my 18 inch Tiffany gold chains to attach to my bracelet in order to use it as a necklace - this would still allow you to remove the correct amount of links to use a bracelet but give you enough room to use as a necklace (you would of course hide the chain with a collared blouse or something similar…).

I would shorten it to wear it as a bracelet as intended. It's a bracelet, not a necklace, and even if you wear it as a necklace, the length will be off and you will see the clasps which is not a good look to me. To me, a single dangling motif cheapens the look. It looks like it's too big, which it is, and the charm that is dangling is clearly not a true "charm" because its the loop at the end of the bracelet that is hanging, a horrible look. That's just my opinion.

If you want a 10 motif, I vote get a real 10 motif. To me, I would tailor your jewelry to wear as it is intended. Jewelry, like clothing, needs to fit to be beautiful. It's not one size fits all which is why VCA allows for lengthenging and shortening.

Hope this helps.

Does anybody know how many links removed would be equal to a 6.5 inch bracelet? Now thinking it best to shorten…I found a bracelet that fits better and it is 6.5 inches. I measured my MOP…with four links removed (I’m not sure how to count this…one removed between each motif), it is 6.75 inches, which is still too big. Thanks.

I got this from an SA, so here is a guide:

2 links out = 7.0"
4 links out = 6.5"
6 links out = 6.0"
8 links out = 5 3/4"

Based on what you measure for 4 links out, you measured it at 6 3/4". Assuming the same ratio that removal of 2, 4, or 6 links shortens it by half an inch, in your measurement if you remove 6 links, you would end up with a bracelet that is 6 1/4".

That might be a bit tight. Even though it doesn't move to scratch your other bracelets, you may want to think if you want to deal with struggling to put something on that tight. It would annoy me personally, and I would probably just not wear it.

May I suggest this? Since you already have a MOP bracelet that you rarely wear, how about taking it to VCA and have them take out two more links, for a total of 6 links out. It should be free of charge. See how you like the way it fits. If you like, get the a 5 motif oynx. If you do not like, skip it and get the 10 motif.

Stacking bangles (Cartier) with bracelets (VCA) is tough if you are sensitive about scratching or twisting. They wil get twisted unless your bracelet is almost skin tight and doesn't move. Maybe skip this look and just get the 10 motif.

I definitely would shorten you MOP to test out the length before diving into another "bracelet" that you won't wear.

Thanks so much for being so helpful. The issue with my MOP is it’s really old and now shrinking. I bought it in 2004 I think so I am a bit paranoid about its fragility. I wanted the onyx because it is more hard wearing…I like the look of the Alhambra with Cartier but not a fan of the tangling with the long length.

I also like the idea of a piece that doubles as a necklace. I would prefer to redirect that extra 4K toward something else instead of one single piece. (I know I will spend that 4K but I like getting multiple items if possible.)

I asked and it is $180 to adjust the links since I got it ages ago. To me it’s not worth it since the issue is not just the length, but the fragility too.

I will definitely mull over your advice. I think I would wear it a lot as a shortened bracelet…just not sure if I want to eliminate the possibility of wearing it both ways…however you make excellent points about shortening it.
