Just curious... do you buy jewelry for yourself?

Definitely.

My boyfriend will buy me a piece occasionally but he's not into jewellery and knows absolutely nothing about it. So what he'll get me tends to be somewhat limited. Plus he's really into department store shopping - he loves John Lewis and Macy's! So again, if he's shopping for jewellery, that's where he goes.

I tell him what I want which works occasionally but I buy my own pieces as well which is how I guarantee I get exactly what I want.

Not as romantic but, it works.

depending on the piece of jewelry, i wouldnt buy/upgrade my own engagement ring.
and to be honest, i like buying my own jewelry because im sure my husband will get ripped off :P
Exactly! I LOVE the idea of my husband buying me jewellery, but he is a maul store dream!
He spends exactly one hour once a year considering the offerings of a single store - he picks a store, walks in ready to buy, and, while he is very careful in making his choice (bless him), he is completely uninformed about the industry and has no idea about value.
My annual holiday/ birthday season is nerve-wracking for this reason! Every year!

Yes always have done so why stop when you get married. DH had "look what I bought my wife syndrome" but he got over it and gets me some great stuff too. I also buy him jewellery if he is not with me when I find something I know he would like.

My original jewellery was all gifts from my family and has recently gone back to my sisters and nieces as we don't have kids.
