Thank you for this reply. You’ve made some really good points, but I want to clarify what I meant: I think that it’s true that it’s a matter or personal taste and that opinions would be on a spectrum. The reason I care about what “internet strangers” think, is because I want to know whether some trends that I am noticing in society are actually happening, or whether they are just in my head... for example, I see that trends of being ‘chic’ and ‘elegant’ are moving away from very recognizable logos and toward very subtle luxury indicators. Same goes for professionalism. So I may not want to show up to work with a bag that I consider very attractive, but other people will find it vulgar due to the LV mono being splattered all over it. I think that this is as important to consider as your work attire and general demeanour.
Whether or not something looks tacky or cheap really depends on the person wearing it, not necessarily the item itself imo.
I’m a university professor as well and I wear Monogram bags. This is a new TT job that I started last fall. For the first few weeks, I didn’t wear my designer bags until I could gage the vibe in my college and in my department.Hello,
I am currently ready to purchase a new purse (the speedy b 25 and neonoe are the top contenders), but I am concerned that anything that is very obviously LV is too tacky/loud/cheap looking. I also have bags in epi and empreinte and don’t like these leathers.
I am a university professor and I’m concerned that mono or DE is unprofessional for work. Any thoughts? Anyone staying away from mono?

Agreed. My mother passed down a vintage Dior monogram bag from the 1980’s and it looks very similar to the Dior styles today. Louis Vuitton is no different. Just look at the monogram Noe... seems like it’s a vintage style that’s very high in demand.Classics never phase out...
I know that was your question. This is not a new question I mean literally there have been so many posts and purseblog entries on this exact same thing...
But separately just as a personal opinion, I think for the most part, you are the only one that cares that much about what bag you are using. It’s much more likely that you are fussing and worrying way too much about what others think than the other way around. Most people honestly don’t care that much about others (not just in terms of bags). Of course there are exceptions...but really what bag you are carrying is probably just not a crucial piece of information to most people.
So which bags do you carry to work?
