Hello,

I am currently ready to purchase a new purse (the speedy b 25 and neonoe are the top contenders), but I am concerned that anything that is very obviously LV is too tacky/loud/cheap looking. I also have bags in epi and empreinte and don’t like these leathers.

I am a university professor and I’m concerned that mono or DE is unprofessional for work. Any thoughts? Anyone staying away from mono?

I have kind of a similar reaction to you. I’m medical staff at a large hospital and would not use monogram. I also just don’t care for it though. It’s not “me”. However, I do use empreinte and love it. It’s about what you like though! I also own chanel and don’t choose to use these at work. Only for evenings out

I believe this is a question of personal taste and opinions. You should not be asking random people as much as asking yourself this question. Do *you* think it's too loud? If so then don't buy it no matter what others think. If others find it tacky but you like it then why should you let them decide what you can enjoy? This is not a question where there is universal truth because it is dependent on personal taste and values.

I personally think that everyone's opinion on things like monogram and logo items are like, a spectrum. You will be able to find people who are on both ends and everywhere in the middle in terms of where they draw the line at "too much". Obviously there would be general consensus in that the majority will find the extreme end to be too much (i.e. everyone will likely agree if every single piece you are wearing has huge logos plastered all over them that's tacky) but in terms of where you draw the line in the middle it's very much dependent on you and maybe just the immediate circle / environment you are in. I think monogram is like that, especially if you are just getting one single item in your entire outfit. So instead of asking and worrying too much about what internet strangers think, I say trust your own feelings, and maybe what you see around you if that's important to you.

Of course another way I read this is that you are basically asking for assurance if it's ok to buy monogram when you kind of want it but are worried that it's too much. In that case please keep in mind you are posting in a forum *dedicated* to LV bags and the opinions you find here is not necessarily the same as say, the people around you or the general population. So if you are asking this question here, I suspect the majority of us are going to be be falling in that spectrum on the side where monogram is not tacky. But is that what's really important to you?

Thank you for this reply. You’ve made some really good points, but I want to clarify what I meant: I think that it’s true that it’s a matter or personal taste and that opinions would be on a spectrum. The reason I care about what “internet strangers” think, is because I want to know whether some trends that I am noticing in society are actually happening, or whether they are just in my head... for example, I see that trends of being ‘chic’ and ‘elegant’ are moving away from very recognizable logos and toward very subtle luxury indicators. Same goes for professionalism. So I may not want to show up to work with a bag that I consider very attractive, but other people will find it vulgar due to the LV mono being splattered all over it. I think that this is as important to consider as your work attire and general demeanour.

So which bags do you carry to work?

IMHO it seems to me that maybe LV is not for you. You say that you do not like Empreinte or epi and that DE and mono is unprofessional. That pretty much leaves DA and vernis.
I actually like DE and mono, I just think that it may be too much for the work place. I also really like the designs of LV, own several bags, and intend to own many more... so I do think that it’s for me :) I am mainly wondering whether people think that monogrammed bags in general are slowly phasing out...

Asking LV owners in an LV forum if monogram is tacky/loud/cheap. Hmm...several threads in the general area on this topic already. I recommend doing a search.

You're a professor, I see Deans and other high-level administration that carry LV monogram with style. I'm not sure why that specific profession matters honestly.

Whether or not something looks tacky or cheap really depends on the person wearing it, not necessarily the item itself imo. But overall you dont seem to really like LV. Perhaps look at another brand.

LV is a popular brand and is easy to spot. If you want a more conservative one that has no logos, explore and pick something else.
I understand what you mean though. I super like my LV monogram and use it a lot for travel as it is light and can fit what I need to bring with me..but will never use it at my work place. I prefer to use my black and plain shoulder bag there instead.

I don’t think it’s tacky at all. For as long as you keep the rest of your outfit clean and classy, you will look professional. Just be confident wearing it.

I remember one of the best professors I had in college who always brought this huge mono Neverfull with her in every class to carry her laptop. She’s always in a crisp white shirt, always looks so put together, and I’d always think she’s one of the smartest and classiest woman ever. :)

I work in a strict professional environment (in finance though) where one of the Directors one day came wearing the full collection of gucci in garden green, with friggin crocodile stamp in her shoes and attended very important client meetings.
If it was a non brand everyone and i mean EVERYONE would make fun of her just for the shoes and the overall color, however, because it's so recognizable (and expensive, and represents something) I actually heard ppl saying she was classy dressed.
Never in my life (or my dying bed) would I imagine myself to wear that outfit and if I did in clients meeting I would have thought I would be humiliating myself.
What I want to say it's that these brands represent something, even if considered tacky for some people. The question is could you pull it off?
If in your class there are like 10 girls holding the same pattern in their bag, are you ok with it? Can you make it pop out?
I wouldn't think something bad if my prof would carry the bags you mentioned, more that she has style, provided she could pull it off.
I would think bad if you were carrying a Birkin or something as I find it provocative to have a bag worth the price of a car in the uni where ppl are paying tons of money for their education.

PS. I am a 5'7" and the 25 is too small for my body, the 30 is just perfect and fits an ipad pro :) To consider if you would finally decide to buy
