Agreed. My mother passed down a vintage Dior monogram bag from the 1980’s and it looks very similar to the Dior styles today. Louis Vuitton is no different. Just look at the monogram Noe... seems like it’s a vintage style that’s very high in demand.
Aww you're lucky! I'm on the hunt for a vintage piece as well. I see peeps on here get stuff that was made during their birth year...I think that's so cool. Problem is I have no idea where to start lol. And I hear discussions about the differences in quality...I'd like the opportunity to see what that's all about too.

There are actually quite a few options outside of monogram, épi, and empreinte. If you look at men’s collection, there are ones with logo all over and there are ones with a single subtle LV logo. Personally I do like all over lv logo bags but just not in typical monogram color. I have bags that’s blue monogram, yellow monogram, silver monogram etc. I would just type in taiga leather in search online. You will see plenty of bags not screaming I’m carry a LV!

I don't find monogram tacky, I do not find other designers' monogram/logo items tacky either. I think all should wear what they want. If you prefer not to show designer items at the workplace though, just don't use them at work. Get a no-name bag to throw your work stuff in and use your designer bags after hours.

When I was new to LV, I started with all Damier Azur items because I didn't like Monogram at all. Didn't take long for it to grow on me, and I LOVE it now. That being said, it's the only logo that covers an entire item that I like. Don't care for Fendi, Gucci logos all over their items (one logo doesn't bother me), but I love LV. When I see it, I think of the history of the house. If it feels flashy for you for your workplace, go another direction.

My take on this is it's not necessarily the LV monogram itself. If you considered a monogram canvas of another brand, say Gucci, Dior or Coach, would that be too loud? Or any other heavily patterned bag for that matter. LV at least has the historical standpoint that, even though it's a loud noticeable item, has some history and regard to its products that tone down the overall statement of the product you are carrying. Only you can decide whether you are comfortable taking such a bold item to work. That could be statement shoes, coat, trousers, etc..

I don’t think it’s tacky but it is certainly recognizeable. I understand if you prefer to be more discreet at work.

I am very much NOT a monogram/logo person but I have slowly come to appreciate LV mono canvas. It’s my exception to the rule.

I agree with a previous poster who stated that your students will have mono bags. You don't want to be a bag twin to a student IMO. And I'd caution against the other huge common bags, such as the Chloe Marcie or Balenciaga City. I'd recommend carrying another brand to class, perhaps an understated Bottega? There are so many wonderful under the radar bags.

Hello,

I am currently ready to purchase a new purse (the speedy b 25 and neonoe are the top contenders), but I am concerned that anything that is very obviously LV is too tacky/loud/cheap looking. I also have bags in epi and empreinte and don’t like these leathers.

I am a university professor and I’m concerned that mono or DE is unprofessional for work. Any thoughts? Anyone staying away from mono?
Confidence is the best accessory one could ever wear. Be the change you want to see in the world. Wear it like it's right, and it will be. Be yourself, everyone else is already taken. Comparison is the theft of joy. Don't justify your existence to no one. Don't allow anyone to make you live your life on their platform. The best dressed person is the one that's most confident in what they are wearing.

I don't have, nor will I in the future have mono or DE bags. Is it because they are tacky or cheap looking? NO. Brown is simply not my friend LOL. I avoid this colour like the plague. :giggle: Can mono look tacky? Yes sometimes. Especially when paired with ball gowns or summery floral dresses imo. But as @jellyv demonstrated above, mono and De can look just as elegant and sophisticated as a plain leather bag. It all depends on the person wearing it. I still remember seeing a woman wearing a DE bag against a grey winter dress and coat thinking how professional she looked. Good luck.

I do think the monogram is tacky. I never found it attractive and i feel like the look has been cheapened due to so many people wearing fake LV monograms. Some people can rock it though. I just think its rare it looks good on someone.
I love DA & DE though. I just think monograms scream nouveau riche..
