I haven't bought anything from the actual store in ages because he discontinued the selma and Sutton and those, in addition to the jet set, are the only bags I truly loved. I think getting rid of the most popular styles (don't even get me started on the large selma) and replacing them with lackluster designs has been a big issue with a lot of people. I tried to like the Savannah but it just doesn't compare to the Sutton. In my personal opinion, most of the new designs aren't as classic and don't look as well made. I still love the colors though.

Interesting!

Bootlover07 has it exactly right, which is why most of my purchases in the past year have been online on the "bay". Loved Selma both sizes and had to get colors I missed or sizes. Then found a medium Sutton in TJs and fell in love with that one too so had to pick up more online. Hamiltons were before the Selmas. Yeah the new styles just don't cut it.

Michael MK still has a very good reputation where I live. The people who sell them here mark them up by at least 100% of the full retail price, so they are quite unattainable to the average person which gives them a 'luxury' status. I buy them online and have them shipped here for a fraction of this country's resellers' prices. Fakes are prevalent here, especially the signature print and bags with medallions, but people seem able to discern the real ones as soon as they see them. It's quite a different perspective from what I'm reading online, since MK could easily open a few boutiques here and it would be flooded with people. The market is not at all saturated here.

Since I've been able to buy the bags I want, I've accumulated almost all the MK bags I like. I'm a huge Ava fan, followed by the Jet Set tote and Sutton. I have never seen the Mercer in person, but I have a preference for saffiano over the pebbled look. I was tempted by the Riley, but so many second hand bags on eBay had wear and tear at the corners that I figured it was a bit too delicate for what I wanted it for. I don't like the unlined look which the Mercer has, and the square boxy silhouette doesn't appeal to me, and quite of the recent bags have had this look.

I still want a Jet Set Tote in Fawn, but I'll only treat myself to that once I graduate. I've spent far too much on bags as retail therapy to get me through my Masters, but that tote is really calling my name~

Also, only the very very rich (think illegal activities type of rich) in this country in South America have the actual luxury brands like Chanel and Louis Vuitton. The average person would need to save for many years in order to afford Chanel since the average income before tax is USD$700. As a result, the average person does not care about inspired-bags since they do not own the the luxury ones in the first place to be upset about seeing cheaper versions on the arms of others.

It's not for me! I just purchased my first MK handbag the Small Ava in black! Brand New with Tags! And I absolutely love it! :cloud9: I am now on the hunt for the same bag in different colors, I would love the Blue (no clue what color it's called as I know nothing about MK handbag!), not the dark blue (navy) it's much more brighter & totally gorgeous! & a beige one. I have my New Ava out ready for pictures BUT it's still dark outside so I will have to wait for later! I cannot wait to share! And yes, the bag was authenticated here by our wonderful Authenticator! :tender:  Kudos! :ghi5:

I love Ava too, it is the only MK bag I own. I have a pale pink ava, and it is so feminine. Post picture with your new bag and congrats

I am not sure I agree with you guys. Hermès, Chanel, Louis Vuitton, and other premier brands are equally (if not much more) counterfeited. But they have been able to manage their brand image more effectively than MK.

MK is not a failing company by any means and, as many pointed out, the brand is still quite popular. But they are challenges ahead, especially as some legacy MK customers trade their 'aspirational luxury' bags for more expensive designer brands.

I ditched because I was seeing way too many Michael Kors bags. That was one reason. I love my Selma, but they got over saturated for me.

Quality is exactly what took me way from MK and back to Coach. I felt like I returned more bags than I kept at the end of my MK love affair. Once the 1941 stuff came out, I just couldn't go back to MK. It's in a completely different league. Likewise, KS quality is what kept me from branching out into that brand. Granted, I never had a KS boutique near me, but reviews I'd seen online and on this forum even were enough to turn me off from the brand.

For me, quality is a huge factor in the bags I purchase. I also refuse to buy LV canvas - it feels cheap to me. The little bit of leather that's on those canvas bags also feels flimsy and cheap. My local Dillard's had pre-owned LV on sale for awhile this past winter This was the first time I'd ever touched an LV bag. The quality of these $1000-$3000 bags didn't even compare to the Coach Rogue I had on my arm. I left thinking, "Am I missing something here? What's the hype all about?"

I don't care what name is on the bag, I just want a stylish, good quality bag. I hope MK can up their game and I hope KS will do so now that Coach has purchased them. There are things I like about all of these brands, it's just that the quality really needs to be there in order for me to justify purchasing.

And this is the other reason I left. MK bags never seemed as well made as my Coach ones and I am less impressed with the newer styles and the fit ans finish. I did get a clearanced collection bag and always look for those on sale. They are so nice. The last things I got were discounted collection shoes and an evening bag. But I have walked in the store and walked out many times over the past 2 years. Nothing clicked.

In Australia, MK is still very popular since we don't have many brands here like in US. Also only high end boutiques that sell MK. So the prices are still very expensive and not many people carry it.
The big dept stores here only sells GUESS and few other local brands.

I used to have lots of MK bags and found it easier to sell than Coach brand or Marc Jacobs.

But I love MK and still have 5-6 of them since it's a good quality bag, the inside pockets are very useful and generous.
The practicality and the color are definitely why we in Aussie still love them.

Here in Canada (Calgary) it's still a popular brand, granted more people are carrying it and Kate Spade as "higher end" items, than before. It's also popular and not that common in New Zealand. However for better pricing and deals my mum comes to Canada to buy MK. Items like charms, wallets or footwear etc aren't hugely common either (I think people would rather spend their money on a bag that you can see and flash around than the other items).

Right now in Calgary they have a Summer Sale going on.. Nothing hugely discounted though.
