Michael Kors Is Michael Kors Dying down?

Maybe related, maybe not...but has anyone noticed that MK is excluded from Macy's F&F sale? And also the past VIP sale? It was also excluded from Belk Charity Day sale. The trend I am seeing is now MK is excluded from limited exclusion coupons. Coach and Kate Spade do this also as of the past year. Think they are trying to move people back to the MK stores. Perhaps if they can control the department store discounts, it will address some of the over saturation?

MK is pulling out of smaller dept. stores as well as KS and Coach.
All are focusing on "upscale" consumers.

MK might be dying down in North America, but it's definitely just starting out in Asia. More and more IT girls carrying them in Taiwan this fall, and all over fashion variety shows. The prices are still comparable to North American prices surprisingly, since they are just starting out. Coach, on the other hand has been popular for a while now. And can range between double to quadruple the price, depending on the item. Even at the outlets.

I believe is everything in the stock market Kate spade, coach & MK had decline specially Kate. Anyways I believe everything has to do with people doesn't matter anymore which is okay. I am still in love with the brand. :)

Yes, I think the market is over saturated. It is still probably the most carried designer. I have about 8 MK bags remaining in my collection that I plan to keep. They are well made bags at a great price point. I still have my eye on a mercer tote..... [emoji4]

Have you seen their new croc embossed mercer? They also have a gorgeous navy and white floral one with suede, pebbled, and smooth leather. I noticed that they are not as popular anymore. I wanted to stop looking at MK and branch out to new designers, but sometimes I pass by the boutique and see their new designs (like the two new mercer designs I saw today) and I like them all over again. I think there is some type of stigma against MK and people who carry them. I don't think everyone thinks its necessary to spend $1,000s to look put together. I say that you can be fashionable at any price point. And if MK is at your price point-- then rock it!

I agree! I knew about the stigma of Michael Kors probably even before I'd seen a bag. But then I kept seeing designs I liked and decided it was stupid to be afraid to buy something I liked for fear of having random people judge me on my brand. MK has made many designs and colors that resonate with me. The interior designs with pockets and key strap are luxurious to me. And the quality is far superior to most anything in its price range especially when you consider it goes on sale. Kate Spade impresses me but it's harder to find in my area. Macys carrying MK has always made it an accessible brand to enjoy.

Yes, MK has plenty of designs that I dont like. But it puts out 50 designs every couple months, so I dont need to like everything, just absolutely love one every once in a while.

MK clothing has also fit my style and non petite body. I appreciate that willingness to branch out beyond the usual sizing and celebrate a range of body types. MK has had plenty of designs with rock or alternative punk flair to give the edge or offbeat feel I like to my wardrobe. With the general fashion trend into the mid nineties inspired designs, I am hoping MK retains some of its previously inspired style and remains my preferred style brand. But I do believe MK styles being on point in recent years with the late 80s/early 90s fashion trends is partly why it exploded when it did. Does that style define the brand or will it just morph with current trends is a big question I have.

I like to spend my money on doing things, but I enjoy splurging a little bit on fashion. MK fits my style and the price point at which I can feel reasonable spending. If someone doesnt like me or my style because they don't like MK, that's their problem. I'm happy being me, which MK sometimes helps me express.

I agree with all of it!
Could care less if other people don't like.
Extended size options really works for me.
Love love love all the organization pockets in his bags.

Totally agree! I used to not like MK because everyone had designs that didn't suit me (mostly the logo bags, which I'm not a huge fan of, but if you are that's great!) The logo bags are just not something that go with my wardrobe. I went into a store for the first time and was drawn towards their designs. I had no idea they had chic designs. Like all7s said, a lot of people, even if they have the means to buy luxury brands like YSL, LV, Fendi-- you name it, prefer to spend money on experiences and other things. Wish I knew how to upload photos to show you guys the designs I saw yesterday in the window. Still a newbie.

I sell on eBay & all of the MK listings I had sold quickly.
As far as new releases, I'm a big fan of the Brooklyn (with the big tassel). I would agree that the majority of new releases leave something to be desired.

I bought the Brooklyn the weekend it came out late last year. I love it! Large, functional, can be worn as a crossbody, and I get a lot of compliments on it. :)

Hi there! I'm a newbie on here, too! :) I struggled on my first few posts asking about authentication so I've learned how to upload pictures well haha. If you're using an app on the iPhone, you can upload pictures by tapping on the message you're wanting to "quote" or respond to and choosing the center option ie the option that isn't the camera icon or the [\] icon. You will be asked to allow TPF access to your photos and then, assuming you say yes, voila! You can upload pictures! It only allows so many at a time, though. If you go through safari or whatever browser you're using on your phone, you still quote to respond, but you have to choose "upload file". I think there were issues with how my pictures uploaded from my phone, too. I recommend using the app.

Do you think it's not as popular since a lot of people carry MK bags now? I'm starting to think MK is the Coach of 2000. I do still love the bags for the price. :amuse:
I think you hit the nail on the head here. The ultra popularity of MK bags, coupled with the long-lasting deep discount strategy it implemented have slowly eroded the brand's appeal for many buyers. Like Coach, MK is trying to pivot and reclaim part of its luxury image by revising its pricing guidelines and reclaiming control over its distribution channels. Will it work? Hard to tell.
