Is it worth it to buy chanel and dior lip stick / gloss / makeup?

I think it's worth it to buy premium brand lipsticks. The color formula is just superior imo. But I do use different category lipsticks for different occasions. Save my Tom Fords for shopping, meeting up with friends, outings, appointments. Save my less expensive Bobbi Brown/ Lancome for groceries and Costco trips.

What started as a journey for a really nice looking lip balm turned into a deep hole called YSL beauty.

I first bought the infamous Dior lip balm in rosewood and was disappointed in the color (granted I purchased unseen). I then found YSL beauty (and their sale), and quickly became enchanted with their makeup. I have since replaced my basics (face powder, foundation, highlighter/blush, mascara, lip balm/prep, and brow mascara) with YSL. I for one love the fragrance - it’s like slapping your face with luxury. I did buy one of their lip sticks that is like a balm but I’m not a huge fan of the peachy smell but do like the iridescent look. I used their sample Pure Shots serum and see a difference in 2 says. I have a growing XMas list of more YSL beauty.

At the end of the day, buy what you like and what you can afford. I'll always go back to MAC because I think they have reliable formulas at a better price range.

However, if I ever do want to splurge a bit on something special, I like them both. I like the Dior Lip Glow Oil (that I currently use for daily makeup). Dior's formulations are more moisturising, but I find that if you choose a dark colour, they'll bleed. Best stick with MLBBs and pinks. Best choice for a day lip. Chanel and YSL offer more bold and brighter ranges, so if you want a special occasion lip, they're the way to go. Of course, they offer day colours too, but I find the lipsticks are less moisturising.

I think it’s worth it to a certain extent. It is very cheap for brands to produce cosmetics if they already have a well known name behind it, and someone I knew who developed formulas for brands like La Prairie told me he has never seen a face cream cost more than $9 to produce, the price comes from the packaging, loss from samples and expired formulas, and small amount from new ingredient development if they require it....he would give me a box of Rapidlash in unbranded tubes because it cost less than $2 to produce.

Dior boutique just gave out free full size lipsticks this Valentine’s day, along with gift boxes and gift bags so it can’t cost them that much.

I would just keep buying what you like best because a lot of the high end brands are only marginally better formulated - if at all - than mid range. Unless you like it for the packaging ...I have a weakness for sleek, high end packaging....

YSL lipstick. Love the smell of geranium.
Dior and Chanel mascaras.
Foundation Armani, old prescriptives(no longer available) MAC pro.
Skincare: cheaper products are actually more effective.
Best skincare: dermatologist own in-house lines.

I’m a product junkie, so I get as excited by drugstore, mid-range and high end.

I think the Dior & Chanel lipsticks I’ve tried are nice enough; and maybe it’s just confirmation bias as they’re the most I’ve ever spent BUT I think Tom Ford’s Lip Products are the absolute best when I’ve spent on high end.

I have been pleased with Chanel makeup before. Chanel does not have a makeup counter anywhere near me though, and that's honestly a bummer because I have to order anything that I want from there, makeup-wise. In my opinion, Dior makeup has been really superb quality for me. It is pricey for makeup, but I have been really happy with multiple things from them.

I'm trying out their makeup brushes, and the quality is excellent. The bristles are very soft, and luxurious feeling. (It's pricey, the brush set that I got from them was 155.00 USD, but it will probably last for many years.) Very high quality. Also, I tried a trial size of Dior lipstick (for some reason, it's hard to get my hands on the trail size. Most often, only the full size is for sale.), and fell in love. It stays on me a long time, and it is very hydrating without being overly creamy, if that makes sense. (I love Charlotte Tilbury lip products, but sometimes I find that CT lip products are a bit overly creamy.). Dior eye shadow is also highly pigmented, in pretty colors. So far, I am trying out Dior makeup remover and I am satisfied with that--I'm satisfied enough to buy it again, but I do think with makeup remover that Neutrogena liquid makeup remover from the drugstore isn't a super ton different than liquid makeup remover from high end brands. I bought Dior backstage face & body foundation for the summer but haven't tried it out yet. Supposedly, it stays on through water, or at the beach, and supposedly, it is sweat proof. My fiance and I are taking our son to the water park this summer and I will be needing something like this. Although I purchased it, I have not actually tried it yet, but if you go on YouTube, Jeffree Star did a review of it and he was really happy with it. I think if I remember correctly, that he went in the pool and it stayed on or something but it's not a heavy feeling foundation.

I just want to add that my experience has been that all Dior makeup ordered from their official website comes nicely packaged in a Dior gift box (they're also doing free shipping right now, I think), with a pretty Dior ribbon and most often when you spend a certain amount, you get free samples and free trial sizes of their products. I've been satisfied with the packaging. I was happy that they didn't skimp on packaging.

So overall, I would say that if you are looking for makeup with a bit more luxurious quality that both of those brands are worth it. Chanel makeup I have been pleased with, although I think that their makeup, while good quality is bought more for the nostalgia of the brand (some people haven't been happy with the glossmiers and the lip products, I thought they were good though.). Dior is 100% worth it, in my opinion--I've been super happy with all of their products.

If I spend thousands on shoes and handbags, then I should splurge on skincare and makeup. I do think they are worth it. I have mostly Dior and Chanel and just recently discovered YSL beauty and bought their serum and the summer palette. I also still use L’Occitane skincare in rotation. After using these, I could never go back to Clinique - the quality is just not the same for me.

I am a big fan of Chanel lipsticks. the texture, the color, I still get a lot of compliments on a rouge allure velvet that I never found a replacement for!...
(and the pigmentation of Urban decay on eyeshadows) the rest I´m moving to organic/natural

I'm not a big fan of either brands foundation products. Mainly because I just can't find a shade that's light enough for me, since even the lightest seem to oxidize and get quite orange-y. (Mind you, my skin is almost unhumanly paper-white.)
HOWEVER, I looove their lip products (especially Chanel lipgloss)!
