I'll still buy pre-loved bags and have them authenticated by Bababebi. Still don't trust Hermes after sales and in all honesty, there are many leather repair shops out there that does a good spa job so I would avoid the costly spa service and risk of having my bag confiscated. Unless the service requires parts replacement like a new handle or hardware, there is no need to send to H and have to wait for weeks just to get the bag cleaned. The shops that I've gone to does high end bags and will also clean the interior as compared with H who only deals with the exterior.

So sorry to hear the verdict of the other OP. I truly hope that the seller can help with part of the refund, if not all.
Agree!

With the exception of the OP (and perhaps 2 others) there's no need to feel upset about this incident, this subject seems to have raised some heat, it's perfectly possible to have an opinion and a discussion without a 'food fight'. Rude posts will be deleted.

Since there is a lot at stake, perhaps we could wait until there is a real-life update from the OP

You are absolutely right about the authenticator trying to protect her reputation. However, the blatant denial of any potential error on the authenticators behalf had the complete opposite affect on me. I took it as completely inappropriate and to be honest, quite off putting. Of course reasonable doubt always exists when items are authenticated by a 3rd party who not affiliated with or trained by Hermes directly. So as a loyal Hermes customer, I would be more inclined to use expertise of an authenticator who is willing to admit the shortcomings associated with authenticating a bag based on photos only and who is willing to state that absolute guarantee regarding authenticity of the item can only be given by the manufacturer.
I hope you never have to sell your bags and be caught in the same situation.

Some seem to stir the pot wherever they go. I personally would stick to the opinions of the very kind ladies and gents whom I have known here for numerous years who have demonstrated more of a desire to be helpful and fun. Just ignore the rest.

OP, I really hope you come to a positive resolution of this matter. I love Hermès and have become quite familiar with many of the product lines over the past 20 years - so much so that I am happy to educate newer SAs about older products and I really enjoy a good leather discussion/debate with our local craftsman-in-residence (there is one matter we have discussed where I am not totally convinced, but then again, I do not work with H leathers daily; however, I started collecting many years before he started training!).

I believe that Bababebi is correct based on the information she was given; beyond that, of course I cannot say. But based on my own personal longtime experience with Hermès, with other collectors and with my friends here, while I have no idea whether Hermès made a mistake, I believe that B did not. Both thoughts don’t have to be mutually exclusive.

Of course that doesn’t solve the problem but honestly, when you get to the point where you yourself (meaning me) have had to educate corporate employees about brand heritage, it’s not an unbelievable scenario.

I don’t believe H keeps a database of items produced with corresponding years and production info, do they?

I applaud the OP for remaining level headed and dignified throughout this ordeal, given the highly emotive content of this sitation. Of course people will have questions and of those some will be prickly and some more insightful. However, what is not helpful is purposely being antagonistic to each other. There are better ways to get your point across or share an unfavourable opinion with out coming across as being aggressive. I have been grateful of this thread surviving for 30 pages as people have been mostly respectful of each. If this was a topic in the Louis Vuitton forum it would have been closed by page 3 and we would be left not knowing what happened. :flowers:

Op please don't let the insanity turn you off from updating this thread when new info becomes available. Please know that several of us are genuinely interested in your ordeal and feel terrible for you. We are here to support you and hope that you are able to get a refund from the reseller.
I'm sorry this is happening.

BBC, all you said, plus some of us have been around this forum long enough to remember the 2014 debacle of stinky leather that gagged members caught in a hot car with a new bag that reeked. Posters to this thread who were not on tpf in 2014 might find it enlightening to learn Hermes is not infallible. (There are pages of posts for anyone interested in learning the details). This was a wide spread problem, Hermes was initially in denial and unresponsive. Members trying to get resolution got hassled from the local level all the way to Paris. When it finally made it into the national press, it was addressed. The problem of bad vats of dye was addressed, but the admission of culpability by Hermes seemed grudging. The point is, even the best can make an error.

I am fine with discussing the multiple facets of my incident; and I trust we all can remain civil throughout. Nothing personal please. I will update the status as I make progress. And I thank our mod for keeping things checked.

I've already started letting out some of my stress in the neighbouring "Hermes in action" thread :flowers:
