Scarves How to Wear a 90cm Carre/Silk Twill Casually?

Textilegirl - this looks awesome on you. But I swear, my mors ring hates me. I tried the same thing and I look ridiculous. Do you have one tail a bit shorter than the other or are they the same length. I'm not giving up on this look but it's not looking good for me.

MYH, I was just fiddling around, but I'm pretty sure the ends were reasonably even. I think it looks different from Ladybaga's because my neck is way more ample (fatter) than hers, and so less of the scarf is left to hang on my ample (let's try 'Reubenesque' :p) bosom. Basically though, I just went with the bias fold and pulled it thru the mors to the middle, folded it over and wrapped it around my neck, then pulled it thru the smaller, double rings. I like this method for scarves with corners worth featuring. (That was my new-to-me Belles Amures, and I'm liking those sailing blocks :D )

I tried a variation of a cowboy knot. I can't decide if it looks casual or not? Yay or nay?

This is a yay! Great scarf and looks great the way you've tied it.

I would love to know too! I find this pretty little ring quite difficult to work with. I played around this morning and the only thing I can up with is this. Basically Papertigers idea but position the tails to the side and with a bit of scarf hanging down as a "necklace" to counterbalance the ring from sliding back down to the front. Sorry for bad photo lighting.

MYH, looking at this pic, what I did differently is to use the large ring to cut the scarf in half -- I pulled the bias-folded scarf thru the large ring until it reached the center, and then I pulled both ends of the scarf thru the small rings (after wrapping the halved length around my neck). HTH!

Marbella8 - I will try to explain. It is a bit tricky at first but once you do it a couple times, it gets easier. MaiTai calls this the asymmetrical knot but I find her instructions are overly complicated.

First, fold your scarf in a rectangle

Then grab the lower left corner and the upper right corner with your fingers and pull. You should get something like this.

Then you need to wrap this around your shoulders like so. It almost looks like a cape but there is no fabric in the back. The 2 triangles are draped over both shoulders at this point like so.

Then take the two points hanging down and tie a knot. I like the tails short so I tie a knot about here

At this point it looks weird but one twist of the scarf about 90 degrees should get a triangle in front and voila, you have a non puffy cowboy. There should be a small triangle in your back. Just tuck that into your shirt and the scarf will stay put

As you get better you can actually choose which triangle and which side of the triangle you want to show in front. This gives you a lot of scarf featuring options. I hope this helps. Let me know if you have any questions.

Sorry, don't know why there is a random pic of step 2 below. I can't seem to delete it.

Thanks for the detailed instructions -- I will have to try this soon! As an aside, I have to tell you how jealous I am of your scarf. Every time I see ELenK, I want to beat myself over the head for not getting one!

MYH, this is so perfect and I love the way it looks on your neck. I saw it a lunch on my iphone and had to come home a see it again on a bigger screen. I'm going to try it out this weekend. Thank you for all the great ideas!!!

I love this thread.

If you want more casual inspiration, look here. http://hymneauxcarres.blogspot.com

Although she hasn't updated her blog in quite awhile, you will see some superb casual looks with a 90 carre. I'm not sure who this lady is but I am in awe. There are quite a few posts. Make sure to click on "older posts" in the bottom right corner of the page when you get to the bottom of each page. She also has some work looks mixed in but there are lots and lots of casual outfits.

I just found this thread, MYH and thanks for all the lovely ideas that got posted here. I have more 90s than I do 140s and I try to wear one everyday. SophieG's photo is very endearing..can she get any cuter or any more casual than that?

But I browsed through the hymneauxcarres blog (my Firefox browser is screaming on the untrusted connection whatever that is!) but I love her posts, too - it just goes to show that even if you style your scarves, two tails, no tails, asymmetrical knots, tails, bows, etc - depending on what you wear the scarf with (Denim or linen, cotton or silk), you can dress it up or down.

I particularly love this page (all blue scarves) :graucho:

I like your look and have the Mors page open on the H website.....To click or not to click....?

I actually wore the asymmetrical tie today even before coming across MYH's nice and detailed instructions. Sometimes I find using a knot instead of a scarf slide is more fun and casual.

C'mon you know we are all for it. Honestly if you are creative and have a bit of patience to,experiment, I think it could be awesome. And compared to other H items, it's a relatively small purchase to satisfy "the itch".

This looks so,awesome. I love it this way on you. This is going to be my "go to" knot.

Thank you, MrsJDS, MYH, and Chestnutty. I will pass on the Mors for the moment. I have a few nice slides and rings anyway, and just bought some of the magnets everyone was talking about. Need to find time to play with those!
