Scarves How to Wear a 90cm Carre/Silk Twill Casually?

Ok, I wore the above 90 out for the first time yesterday, (at the zoo with kids) and I think my outfit is a good example of how I usually dress (very casual/eclectic)...scarf or no scarf (this one happens to be with scarf ;) ). Please excuse my pained expression and crazy hair, it was bright sun and windy! I am wearing a tank top, jeans, moccasins and my MeM. :smile1: Will take this down from my Flickr one OP had has a chance to view. HTH!

And here is one from home, before it warmed up, with baby alpaca sweater and tank.
Love your look and the scarf!!! Perfect casual chic outfit - you look fabulous!

I think this is a wonderful idea for a thread, and I've been lurking ever since it was started (ashamed to admit that I haven't yet figured out how to post pictures!). But I will say this, I ONLY wear my H scarves when I dress casually, which is about 360 days of the year! I feel that when I'm dressed up, the addition of a scarf just makes the ensemble a bit too fussy for my liking. So I pare down when I dress up. But on the other 360 days of the year, some form of an H scarf is always with me!
Well, we look forward to seeing some pix eventually. You must be pretty adept at creating casual, everyday looks! I think we're all trying to get more comfortable with those, instead of saving scarves for special occasions and then not knowing what ties or drapes really suit us.

For me, posting depends on where my pix are located (phone, laptop, desktop). Use the "Go Advanced" tab. Be sure to size them down a bit or they take a long time to load, which can be annoying for those reading tPF on phones. Please join in!

Rainne, you look gorgeous in your MeM casual looks!!!:thanks for sharing your cas. looks with us! I really need a MeM:graucho:

Thank you, GG! :smile1:

You absolutely need an MeM! I wish I lived closer so that we could go together :hugs:

This is such a great look rainneday! I so wish it got cold here ...enough to wear some chunky sweaters with a beautiful scarf like you. It looks pretty and cozy. Thanks for sharing!

Thank you so much, Stylemechanel!

Even though it doesn't really ever go below the high 40s here, it is very nice to have actual seasons. I definitely understand what you are saying as I moved here from a much warmer climate (all year round!). Sending some cool NorCal winds your way...

Love your look and the scarf!!! Perfect casual chic outfit - you look fabulous!

Thank you for the sweet compliments, Jyyanks! :D

Now all I need is an Halzan on my arm...:graucho: ;)

I'm actually wearing a t-shirt with my scarf today. I buy pretty much all my tees from Everlane, but I have a few from Uniqlo, and Anthropologie (before their quality took a nosedive). I think it's a matter of what knot you do - I tend to do a variation on the cowboy knot, or sometimes I do the classic bias knot but I flip the tail behind my neck so you just have the loop of fabric in the front. This works best with a casual jacket on top. That's the knot I did in my first pic with Laboratoire du Temps. I made the classic knot work with Au Coeur de la Vie because it's a bright design and I paired it with the utility jacket. The other 2 pics are a cowboy knot, which is also what I'm wearing today...

I have a harder time making the look work with the classic, horse-y designs, but you have a lot of cool designs in your collection that should work. I bet your De la Mer au Ciel in a cowboy know with a white tee is dynamite - try it! ExLibris en Kimonos too - you have more fun designs than you think!

I pulled a few pics from the archive, when I was in Venice in May. I hope they're helpful

Sophieg, your looks (inc hard hat one are great!) What CW is the scarf in the second photo here please?

Thanks in advance.

Great thread everyone,

C

Thank you, dear carls888!

L'Arbre de Vie in my photo is CW05 réglisse/vieux rose/turquoise. It's one my most worn scarves - a very versatile CW

Brilliant! Thank you.

This thread is fun and dangerous (so many beautiful scarves to buy), but also inspiring, I have pulled out all my scarves and am wearing them everyday again.

You look great... in both photos! MeM is definitely the right 90cm for you.

What a terrific thread, MYH! Thank you so much for starting it. I've just read all 13 pages, and now I'm ready to contribute, secure in the knowledge that I won't be replicating anyone else's comments!

First of all, about scarves and t-shirts: that is my basic uniform! About 5 years ago, I standardized on the Ralph Lauren cotton tees in white, black, and navy... plus one pale pink. I stocked up on the white and black ones when they went on sale; they have since changed the design. This is what they look like now (sleeves a little shorter, style a little slimmer, price a little higher:p): http://www.ralphlauren.com/product/...ab=ln_women_cs_short-sleeve&parentPage=family.

I live in Northern California and am now retired, so I usually dress casually. A black tee shirt or v-necked sweater, a casual jacket (if it's chilly), a black skirt or pants, or a denim skirt, and a 90cm. (Black with black... you can tell I'm a transplanted New Yorker!;)) Most of my 90cm scarves are from years ago (I'm talking mid-1980s!), when I used to wear them to accessorize a navy business suit so I didn't look like a guy.:D (Those were the "dress for success" days, when women had to look like men if they wanted to get ahead.)

But now I wear my scarves with extremely casual clothes, and I pretty much wear a scarf every day. Sometimes I take the time to make a complicated knot, but I usually just rely heavily on two of Mai Tai's rings: her Anneau Infinity and her horn Shawl Ring.

In the first picture, which I took today for SOTD, I'm wearing a black tee, a jacket, a denim skirt, and I just threaded the ends of the scarf in opposite directions through the Infinity ring. The scarf stays in place all day, no sliding around, and I can have it be as high or low as I want.

The second picture was taken yesterday. I had a meeting, so I dressed up a bit: v-necked sweater, black skirt, and the scarf in a criss-cross knot through the shawl ring. Again, easy-peasy: the scarf stays put, and I left it loose & large around my neck because it was a chilly day.

And the third picture shows that same scarf, on a different (much warmer!) day, worn over a plain white tee. I think I was wearing my denim skirt & sandals that day. I made the bias fold a little thinner, because I didn't want it to come up too high around my neck.

Hello casual scarf wearers! I'm sorry I've been away and haven't had a chance to comment on everyone's beautiful pictures. For now I'm going to post my most recent purchase from my travels a dip dye 90 cm Marwari. I love the color way because of it's casual vibe and feel like it would be a good contribution to this thread. Ever since I've moved from the East Coast to the West Coast I feel like I've had to look at scarves with a different "eye" and I'm definitely picking more casual cws. Here's my newest baby.

Oh my gosh - so sorry for the triple upload?!?!?! :shrugs::shrugs::shrugs::confused1::confused1: Have no idea what happened.

You look FABULOUS!!! I love the third picture!

Great posts and photos Elaine! The temps in N CA are perfect for silk all year round!

MYH - double compliments on the DD silk! So pretty in Gris Perle!

I succumbed to the Pale Blue one that I tried on when it first came out and held back because I wanted to see more AW silks. Eventually it found its way back to me and there is nothing more casual in my mind than Linen, silk and a Clemence leather H bag.
