Thanks for the instruction! Sometimes I feel that 90cm has too much fabrics on me. This may solve the problem.Marbella8 - I will try to explain. It is a bit tricky at first but once you do it a couple times, it gets easier. MaiTai calls this the asymmetrical knot but I find her instructions are overly complicated.
First, fold your scarf in a rectangle

Then grab the lower left corner and the upper right corner with your fingers and pull. You should get something like this.
View attachment 2780103
Then you need to wrap this around your shoulders like so. It almost looks like a cape but there is no fabric in the back. The 2 triangles are draped over both shoulders at this point like so.
View attachment 2780104
Then take the two points hanging down and tie a knot. I like the tails short so I tie a knot about here
View attachment 2780106
At this point it looks weird but one twist of the scarf about 90 degrees should get a triangle in front and voila, you have a non puffy cowboy. There should be a small triangle in your back. Just tuck that into your shirt and the scarf will stay put

As you get better you can actually choose which triangle and which side of the triangle you want to show in front. This gives you a lot of scarf featuring options. I hope this helps. Let me know if you have any questions.
Sorry, don't know why there is a random pic of step 2 below. I can't seem to delete it.
I just fix it quite often by hands. It takes only a few seconds. I enjoy doing this, looking into the mirror, then smile!![]()
Hello casual scarf wearers! I'm sorry I've been away and haven't had a chance to comment on everyone's beautiful pictures. For now I'm going to post my most recent purchase from my travels a dip dye 90 cm Marwari. I love the color way because of it's casual vibe and feel like it would be a good contribution to this thread. Ever since I've moved from the East Coast to the West Coast I feel like I've had to look at scarves with a different "eye" and I'm definitely picking more casual cws. Here's my newest baby.
Oh my gosh - so sorry for the triple upload?!?!?!Have no idea what happened.

Oh my so beautiful! I can almost feel the softness through your photos. Thank you and everyone for sharing! Here's my Rive Fertile ... on the bus![]()
You look terrific, with your sunnies tucked into your scarf knot. Casual, indeed! A great look!![]()
I, too, am an older gal living a very casual lifestyle and I used to find it very challenging to wear a silk without it looking too "fussy" and aging. I think part of the problem for me was it's stiffness...so I gravitated more toward wearing my cashmere's because they are so easy to toss on willy-nilly and go!
I solved this stiffness problem by washing my silks (but ONLY after I know for sure it's a keeper!!!) in a bath of lukewarm sudsy water (I use a touch of White & Warren Cashmere Care) rinsed carefully (never wrung) and a LOT so all the suds are gone and laying them on a towel to air dry. Then I carefully iron them (NOT the hems....those remain nice and plump) ! Voila! Nice and drapey!!!!
Once they're ironed they're easy to toss on as I do my cashmere's and go! I never use a scarf ring and mostly use a regular knot either at the back of the neck so the scarf drapes loosely down the front or after wrapping and bunching it loosely around my neck tying the ends toward the side or the front or tucked under the scarf. These methods pretty much guarantee a non-studied, casual look.
And then throw on a leather jacket and you're good to go!!!!!
Thank you so much for the washing instructions, S'Mom! Most of my scarves are old (and so am I, LOL!) but sometimes they do need a good washing. Even if they aren't stained, if it's a hot day and my neck gets sweaty... well, you get the picture.
So I have a question. When you rinse, do you empty out the sink, refill it with clean water, and then swish the scarf around a bunch until all the suds are out, possibly emptying and refilling the sink a few times until the water is clear? Or do you have a separate tub of clean lukewarm water for your rinsing?
Also, when you lay out the scarf to dry, do you first roll it in the towel to get out excess water, then unroll the towel & let it air-dry? Or just lay it out, sopping wet?
I'm definitely going to get that product you mention... it sounds perfect!![]()

Thank you ladies for your beautiful contributions!
Is it a casual looking unless I wear my jacket?
Let me share my silk twill I challenged wearing in several ways. Spinnakers 21 mortarede/turquoise/fuchsia
Thank you for letting me share.

Elaine you wear the smart casual look with great elan .I love the Lumieres with the black dress , simple and chic. What a terrific thread, MYH! Thank you so much for starting it. I've just read all 13 pages, and now I'm ready to contribute, secure in the knowledge that I won't be replicating anyone else's comments!
business suit so I didn't look like a guy.(Those were the "dress for success" days, when women had to look like men if they wanted to get ahead.)

Great posts and photos Elaine! The temps in N CA are perfect for silk all year round!
I succumbed to the Pale Blue one that I tried on when it first came out and held back because I wanted to see more AW silks. Eventually it found its way back to me and there is nothing more casual in my mind than Linen, silk and a Clemence leather H bag.

Thank you for the advice about the vinegar and the color catcher, frou frou! I remember washing my scarves years ago... didn't know about the vinegar at the time, so I will be sure to do it now!Chipping in here as I washed a stack of scarves yesterday and the results are brilliant.
I rinse 5 or 6 times ,whichever way , as the scarves are far more robust than H lead us to think . I do put a small capful of white vinegar in the final rinse to restore PH and add brightness and lustre .
I roll in towel , dry flat on a rack for 30mins or so and press with warm iron on reverse . I'd say my scarves look as new afterwards except they are more drapey.
Had a bit of colour run with an old red and beige CSGM , the water should have been colder and I shall use a colour catcher next time
