How to keep the shape of your Birkin

I was told by Hermes never to use plastic or bubble wrap inside the bag. They said the plastic gives off gasses and will ruin the leather over time.

Funny I asked the same thing, their explanation was that they expect the plastic to be there only short term. Once the bag is sold and used the plastic is to be removed.

Gosh. We spend 10k+ on a bag and they can’t even throw in a pillow for us but give us a cheap piece of plastic that eventually ruins our bag [emoji85]

I bought my Birkin preowned without the box. What do you store your Birkin in when you don’t have the box? I do have the dust bag. Also do you store it laying down or sitting up?

I never store any of my H. bags inside the box, I only store them in their dustbags sitting up .

I store mine with a pillow designed for Birkin in the dust bag laying on its back. My orange boxes are stored elsewhere.

It depends on your climate, but out of the box is preferred for leather items.
Leather is natural and to be on the safe side needs air circulation.to prevent mould, mustiness and deterioration.

You don't need to put your Birkin in a box but I strongly recommend you stuff it with air pillows and store it on its back, e.g. how the bag would be if it was in a box. That's the most optimal way of storing it when the bag is not in constant use.

These are very attractive, but don't fit larger (e.g., 35 cm) bags.

I never store mine in their boxes. Like others, it's the dustbag and on their backs with something inside to help keep the shape. I currently use Container Store bag inserts, which fold to different sizes but I think that some of the others in the thread cited would be better.

They are not cheap, but I love them. I have had one for my 32cm Kelly as well as 30cm and 35 cm Birkin.
