Sorry to hear you are seeing the pocket. Others can chime in, but I think that’s just part of the aging process and as you use the bag, especially depending on the type of leather.
There are disadvantages to all types of storage. Laying down can cause more visible pocket. Standing up allows gravity to play on your bags shape and the corners on Bs can sag a bit. If you stuff it too full, that can also contribute to the pocket indent.
Overall, I say just pick the way that feels best to you and most effective for what you want your bag to look like. If a little sag is OK and you don’t want the pocket, stand her up!

I can share what some of our clients do...we have a lot of ladies that change it up and alternate between laying down, standing up and even hanging in between uses. There are various handbag hangers out there that are pretty good. Not going to plug ours but we get great review from our clients. Also, have a client that swears by laying her bag on a large pillow, on it's front so as not to have all the pressure on the back of the bag with the pocket "pressing" on it. For a day or so, not too long.

I personally will hang a bag for a week or so, as I tend to use a particular bag for a few days in a row, so I keep it out hanging during that time. I think that helps plus it's easy to grab and go. Of course, it should be out away from direct sunlight and not for too long so as not to collect dust.

I like this. Seems like different leathers might do better standing up, specifically in regards to the pocket showing through, as you said. I assumed I would lay mine flat, but looking at my 5 year old B, I think it was probably just stored in box, laying down and it shows (just slightly, but still).

I don’t have the original plastic bubbles so I would like a storage pillow (or pillows) for my Birkin 35, but I am not in the US.

Does anyone know a good place to order storage pillows within the EU?

thank you so much! I am storing them standing for now! I also purchased memory foam toppers because I saw a TPFer use it for her purses. I’ll try lying the bags down on the memory foam when it’s time to move them! So thankful for all the tips!

I just received my new pillow inserts for my Birkin 30 and I love the new design! I’ve been ordering from your company since 2012 and I’m only trying the new design now! It fits my B perfectly! Will order more for my other babies! (Bags)

I’m super late to the game and was looking for a memory foam pillow/pad to lay my B30 on as I noticed the back zipper pocket was starting to come through :( Anyhoo, for those of you still looking for a memory foam pad, in addition to the link above (although I think it’s sold out now), I will also include a link to another one that I just purchased that is available on Amazon. The dimensions fit my B30 perfectly:
