so true!:true::useless: I live in London which can get nippy, so coats are essential. Still I discipline myself so I do not have more than SIX at a time. And I find that tends to cover most situations. Otherwise the wardrobe gets full of stuff - and some of it does not look so good after say 3-4 years.

photos coming soon..

1. vintage chanel boucle in BLACK (this is old but very hard to replace.)
2. cream 100% cashmere short coat by bottega veneta (what on earth did I buy this for? its pretty glam, but is CREAM!)
3. a NAVY 100% down light weight + super warm mid length from uniqlo
4. tweedy HEATHER mixed colour faux fur collar from ZARA, (love this one just bought it.)
5. MARC JACOBS military style olive coat with fur hood (just bought it)
6. trenches x2 in black and stone 9but they do not really count as they are not PROPER coats, too cold to wear them now. So I am allowed one more right?:graucho:

I have a MAJOR clear out every year and give away lots,:crybaby: including a grey cashmere from Max Mara, fur collar taupe from yves solomon, pink tweedy boucle from Harrods... I do hope they went to a good home.:worthy:

Oh my ok I have 42
It's not something I'm proud of but they are all different cut and fabrics but 42 is allot!
I have collected them over the years but I still find my self using them so I can't get rid of them!

Apparently 23 (eek!)
12 wool coats mid-long
1 short wool coat
3 trenchcoats (max mara, patrizia pepe, calvin klein)
2 fur cape/fur trimmed coats
3 military wool coats
2 down filled puffies

I own about 20 coats, but most of them were under $100. I'm in the market for a very good sleek, sexy winter coat. My problem is that I've become allergic to wool (even new wool and merino wool). I wasn't allergic a few years ago, however.

I suppose that may differ person to person. I, for example, do not consider leather jackets to be "coats" because I live in a cold climate. Leathers are generally for fall and not winter here. However, in a different climate, leather might well be all someone needed as a coat because the temperatures didn't go low enough to warrent much else.

For me, I mostly consider wool and wool/cashmere to be coats, and most of mine are walker length or full length. Although I don't wear them, I'd also consider down jackets or coats to qualify as "coats". Lighter weight trenches also do not count for me, as they are primarily fall or spring wear. I do not double-up on layers and put one layer of outerwear (like a trench or quilted jacket) under another (like a wool or cashmere). But I am also not walking outdoors a lot, so a wool coat is mostly fine by itself for me.

But again, this may be completely different from what someone else thinks. I have about 12 or 14 winter "coats", and that doesn't count trenches, leathers or other lighter weight jackets.
